"Obliferous, gentery, Smecterbice, ahpurgikaw Combuchinee, arkinade, shargenol, bergentibrock" I thought i was having a stroke for a second.... but now I'm just kinda hungry.
Theory- Will Swan told Jon that if he toned down his lyrical stupidity on Acceptance Speech that he'd give Jon a band where he can rant about whatever he wants.
"Take me to another place where i can wave at passing stars, and ask the one who's held responsible why planets spin like art. Drop an obelisk on top of men and teach them how to carve. A machine that sees the flaws to make circles out of shards." That's one of the best written phrases i have EVER read. I love this single phrase to death and it is the main reason why i keep coming back to this song.
I totally agree being the best written phrases written down ever. It's sad that because of the genre Secret Band is a lot of people will never hear this song let alone know the lyrics
***** No, the members are as follows: Jon Mess - Vocals; Will Swan - Guitar; Martin Bianchini - Guitar; Jordan McCoy - Bass; Matt Mingus - Drums This is from their Facebook page.
Lovin' It, especially "I believe in reading. No I believe in shopping" because it (obviously) reminds me of 'S!IFC,EHOB' (didn't want to write the whole title)
This music video reminds me of a kind of Dance Gavin Dance universe, where everything is a horrific nightmare, instead of colorful animals, humans, and robots
I kind of want this to be their full time band. This song tops everything DGD has done since their self-titled album. And I love everything DGD puts out.
It's criminal they keep using most their efforts in DGD as that band hasn't been doing that good imo. Secret Band's little discography eclipses anything DGD has made in the past years.
and Secret Band also leads towards the harder side of Post-Hardcore like A Day To Remember, but that's like comparing Justin Bieber to Metallica. You really can't
I really like lyrical videos like these and I'm really glad that the metal industry has been shifting in that direction recently. As far as prereleases are concerned I like these a lot better than just the song with the album cover or even actual music videos.
+HumbleHominid this isn't metal, the screams are hardcore screams dude. It's Post-Hardcore. you could get this similar sound from a band called trash talk
*driving down rainy highway* *lyrics from song playing over radio start popping out in front of my head* *looks right* *what the fuck is that in my passenger seat* *looks left* *T-boned by another car* pretty much sums up an average Sunday on acid.
Don't worry, half the time Jon doesn't know what his lyrics are about. To be blunt, its just noise that fits the mood of the song. They don't mean anything. No emotional bullshit lyrics about found/lost love (or some other emotion most bands like to harp on in hope that it would drown out how horribly mediocre they're), its exists to enrich the instrumentals. To clarify, nothing wrong with writing songs about common emotions, it just puts me off when thats all the band has to offer.
I asked Jon a while back on twitter about his lyrics and he actually answered. He said it's a mix of writing stuff that he feels fits with the music (guitar signatures, melodies, etc.) but also, they do have meaning, it's just not obvious or apparent
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! Its what DGD *should* have been doing all along. Takes me back to the days of Whatever I say is Royal Ocean and Downtown Battle Mountain. Words cannot describe how excited I am for this album!!!
Lophiiformes no i understand what he means, i guess the similarities can be measured, the battle of heroin addiction and the struggle to reform our broken human society are much more alike than you might realize. The emotion and frustration related to this seemingly irreversible cancer is beautiful and destabilizing. Ive listened to so much DGD that it would be silly not to hear the correlation.
Airsoftfun371 how can you know what this song is about? i haven't analyzed much of DGD's lyrics, but to me, the lyrics of this song is hard to make something out of.
Lophiiformes honestly I dont think I can explain it properly. The feeling I get when I listen to this is just the same feeling I got when I first started listening to DGD. The sound isn't 100% the same(obviously), but the passion is there unlike most of the newer albums and songs from DGD.
1:19 were ANY of those words?? Lol. I heard that Jon writes his lyrics not so that they make sense, but just so the words sound good together. That true? Seems to be so haha. They're amazing \m/ love it.
Reminds me so much of The Robot With Human Hair pt. 4... which isn't a bad thing! These lyrics are genius, Jon Mess is a genius, Will Swan is a genius, Matt Mingus is a genius. (That's assuming they're all in Secret Band) Either way, this song is sick.
This is the most "in your face" song I've ever heard from these guys. SO fucking intense. After being disappointed by Acceptance Speech, I knew these guys would pick back up where they left off. Music Gods.
Is Will panned to the left or right on this track? Incredible song, definitely a new favorite. I hope the rest of the album can hold up to this high bar they've set for themselves
Does anyone else think that the buildings shown on the "I believe in reading. No I believe in shopping" part, look like the buildings on the cover of DBM?
"Obliferous, gentery,
Smecterbice, ahpurgikaw
Combuchinee, arkinade, shargenol, bergentibrock"
I thought i was having a stroke for a second.... but now I'm just kinda hungry.
Theory- Will Swan told Jon that if he toned down his lyrical stupidity on Acceptance Speech that he'd give Jon a band where he can rant about whatever he wants.
This band was created during Jonny Craig era.
Weeaboo Destroyer Will Swan said in an interview that Jon Mess is his favorite screamer both lyrically and vocally.
even though it doesn't fit in with the timeline SB was created this is still hilarious
2:04 Oh my.... I've never met that Jon Mess before.
"Take me to another place where i can wave at passing stars, and ask the one who's held responsible why planets spin like art. Drop an obelisk on top of men and teach them how to carve. A machine that sees the flaws to make circles out of shards."
That's one of the best written phrases i have EVER read. I love this single phrase to death and it is the main reason why i keep coming back to this song.
I agree. I almost want my first tattoo to be of that line.
i love how this has the most ridiculous lyrics and the deepest lyrics on the album in one song
I totally agree being the best written phrases written down ever. It's sad that because of the genre Secret Band is a lot of people will never hear this song let alone know the lyrics
Followed by that invention screen. Hes a god
Same dude I keep coming back even after years. The way he says it too is amazing.
Jon's going on about egg yolk citizens again ... whatever that means ...
No can of broccoli this time.
Bearded Rizz It's a another way to call someone bland.
NewWorld that was an egg yolk comment. lol just playin, keeping it teal.
Bearded Rizz Oh ik I'm just pushing information
Push that shit yo
Damn; Matt Mingus is such an underrated drummer.
I agree, Matt's drumming in this song is flawless, and he mixes it up throughout the course of the song. So awesome.
Nick M haha, matt doesn't drum in secret band because otherwise it would sound too much like dgd.
***** No, the members are as follows:
Jon Mess - Vocals; Will Swan - Guitar; Martin Bianchini - Guitar; Jordan McCoy - Bass; Matt Mingus - Drums
This is from their Facebook page.
you read my mind
***** It's the exact same lineup lol. just minus their clean vocalist.
"I believe in reading, no, I believe in shopping"
I see what you did there :D
Jon Mess just gets better all the time
Secret Band takes you places, man. Holy shit
Oh absolutely. I'm in LOVE.
The transitions on this song are legendary. Will and Matt killing it to the next level.
Has to be one of the coolest lyric videos that I've ever seen!
4 years old and I would still agree in 2019
@@Stardust_0608 6 years and I'd still agree
8 years im agreeable
a full decade and still a fact
i was so into the song i was surprised to find out it had only been playing for 90 seconds or so. fucking intense
Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the inside of Jon Mess' head!
Lovin' It, especially "I believe in reading. No I believe in shopping" because it (obviously) reminds me of 'S!IFC,EHOB' (didn't want to write the whole title)
I like to condense my DGD titles rather turning them into acronyms
Eg: New Roman; Look North; Cuba; Robot I - Robot II - Robot III - Robot IV
Shameless184 That seems better
Fabian Gonzalez It works quite nice.
surprise I'm from Cuba and everyone has one brain :D
i believe there's meaning no i believe there's nothing
I BELIVE IN READING, NO, I BELIEVE IN SHOPPING!
I BELIVE IN EATING, EVERY SINGLE TOPPING!
one of the best post hardcore songs ive ever heard
3:02 Lemon Merangue Tie
I believe in picking, no, I believe in tapping :D
I feel like i just did acid in Communist Russia right next to the Kremlin.
This music video reminds me of a kind of Dance Gavin Dance universe, where everything is a horrific nightmare, instead of colorful animals, humans, and robots
I kind of want this to be their full time band. This song tops everything DGD has done since their self-titled album. And I love everything DGD puts out.
I prefer this over the new shit
It's criminal they keep using most their efforts in DGD as that band hasn't been doing that good imo. Secret Band's little discography eclipses anything DGD has made in the past years.
Oh, so it's basically Dance Gavin Dance without a clean singer? I understand now.
+Kyle Partlow Yeah, I believe it's why they made DGD softer, well that and the vocalist. DGD likes to experiment regardless
and Secret Band also leads towards the harder side of Post-Hardcore like A Day To Remember, but that's like comparing Justin Bieber to Metallica. You really can't
i can't tell if you're being sarcastic
Did you even listen to this? That's like saying The Mars Volta sounds like At the Drive In.
DGD no bullshit mode, basically.
These bass boosted headphones got my head warbling, I love this band
still jamming to this shit.
I heard that Untitled part. lol.
~I believe there's meaning no I believe there's nothing~ just caught that
I was hoping for an actual music video but this is dope as fuck.

*T-boned by another car*
pretty much sums up an average Sunday on acid.
I don't want the song to end :(
The lyrical genius of Jon mess
Man theres so much DGD in this, I fucking love how its new but feels close to home
fffffuuuu i LOVE how jon just rips it in secret band. i mean he does great in dgd don't get me wrong but ffs
F*ck yeah John Howe. Way to make the most kick ass MoGraph lyric video I've ever seen. SECRET BAND!!!
You can tell just from the video the heavy ass DGD influence the members brought to this band. DGDs videos were just like that with the words. Love it
I know this is like post hardcore esque but I feel like this could also be classified as like technical metalcore lol
I’d say this is kind of in between the two genres, not quite either of the two
So fucking stoked for this album to finally come out!
Best lyrics EUW
drinking piss OP
Starting to wonder if Jon Mess is actually Lil' B.
I can't decide which video is more like drugs. This or Connector by A Lot Like Birds?
Connector. Without a doubt.
DGD's the one with cocaine, ALLB with hallucinogens
This purely from a lyrical standpoint
What if they were combined together oh my God XD
Jon mess is a lyrical genius
This is really really really fucking good, heavy, yet interesting and melodic. No wonder it's from the DGD guys.
This is everything.
I don't know why, but I get an "Oh sleeper" feel from this! Might be the vocalist.
1:07 That riff made my head spin.
man this song is real beast
This is addicting.
this song is nothing short of perfection
Whoa. What the fuck.
Mind completely blown. xD
I'm Bonkers drugz r bad
this is so beautiful
am i the only one who never has any idea what jon is talking about?
Don't worry, half the time Jon doesn't know what his lyrics are about. To be blunt, its just noise that fits the mood of the song. They don't mean anything. I love this
I'm swoonin' right now. Yessss.
This is amazing, don't ever change
I'm addicted to this song.
WELL HOLY CRAP THIS IS GOOOOOOOD
This shit is too raw! I love it
THIS IS BEAUTIFUL! Its what DGD *should* have been doing all along. Takes me back to the days of Whatever I say is Royal Ocean and Downtown Battle Mountain. Words cannot describe how excited I am for this album!!!
Not sure how you think this sounds anything like WISIRO or DBM, is on a whole other level.
Lophiiformes no i understand what he means, i guess the similarities can be measured, the battle of heroin addiction and the struggle to reform our broken human society are much more alike than you might realize. The emotion and frustration related to this seemingly irreversible cancer is beautiful and destabilizing. Ive listened to so much DGD that it would be silly not to hear the correlation.

it's basically just dgd without clean vocals...
best song of the year
1:19 were ANY of those words?? Lol. I heard that Jon writes his lyrics not so that they make sense, but just so the words sound good together. That true? Seems to be so haha. They're amazing \m/ love it.
the greatest band ive ever heard! you guys are gods
Reminds me so much of The Robot With Human Hair pt. 4... which isn't a bad thing! These lyrics are genius, Jon Mess is a genius, Will Swan is a genius, Matt Mingus is a genius. (That's assuming they're all in Secret Band) Either way, this song is sick.
i think of Dance Gavin Dance when i hear this, my oldest son (14) loves Secret Band and Dance Gavin Dance
you do know that Secret Band is a Dance Gavin Dance project band, includes everyone except the Clean Vocalist and their ex-guitarist
Alberto Lugo dance gavin dance is secret band
+Auto Privy oops
+Auto Privy even though they have the same people, its still a separate band
This must do taken so much energy from Jon Mess. I love it!
This is fucking dope.
Love everything about this song.
GOOSEBUMPSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
well that was surprisingly heavy..
You Dance Gavin, Dance with all your might! XD
mess's soul is floating in the cosmos before the Creator, spitting straight fire to it proving how wickedly awake and wild man can really be.
i enjoy the part where none of the lyrics make sense. best part of the band.
How the fuck have i never listened to this
Holy shit Jon is holding back in dgd
He does more melodic screams lately .
This is the most "in your face" song I've ever heard from these guys. SO fucking intense. After being disappointed by Acceptance Speech, I knew these guys would pick back up where they left off. Music Gods.
it needs it when it needs it
The only song I really want to hear live.
1:08 to like 1:16... im pretty sure those aren't even words.
Almost positive they arent
Food
...holy shit. This is too good.
Seizure mode activate
DGD ALLB SIANVAR SECRET BAND ALL GODS
Anyone else get a Tool vibe from the bit at about 2:58?
No
Spicy

Jon Mess has gotten so much better with his vocals since even DBM 2. Tybg
Love it
!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy shit that was intense
@2:40 throwback!
I believe in meaning, no I believe theres nothing!
Is Will panned to the left or right on this track?
Incredible song, definitely a new favorite. I hope the rest of the album can hold up to this high bar they've set for themselves
Will is on the right side.
the music is completely incredible. The lyrics are utter nonsense, and yet it makes so much sense in a sick twisted perfect kind of way
FUCK YEAH
Does anyone else think that the buildings shown on the "I believe in reading. No I believe in shopping" part, look like the buildings on the cover of DBM?
3:23
Does ANYBODY have a tab for this??????
Is this a statement on lyrics in music?
1:05 sounds a lot like old Gojira
holy sh!xt
It seems with secret band that will swan, jon mess an a couple others wanted to bring their skramz influence out more.
dude... Jon Mess knows that genre like the back of his hand
BigElephant and this is why I love Jon mess
Was that tilian ??? On that one part ?
That part at 2:45...!
Def sounds like a lot like birds
and this is how sharts happen
Sounds A lot Like Birds.
2:36
I love how the thumb nail just says DRINK PISS 😂 What is the song about tho? Creative none the less
