I've had 2 first generation Yarises. Currently a 2001 1.3 model made in Japan which I've had for over 6 years. It has 130000 miles on it and still going strong. I've never been faster than 80mph (128 kph) in it, but it feels like it's good for more. Absolutely bulletproof little cars.

"It has 130000 miles on it and still going strong." - XD nice joke)) 130k can beat even citroen or fiat. this Toyota can easily got 300 000 miles (with regular maintenance only). I was driven(test-drive) 1.0L yaris with 320 000 km on it - like a new one. Now i got one with 160k km from 2004 year.

@fasttracklap8480 I bought it used. First problem, high consumption, 10l/100km . After many youtube and forum investigation, nothing helped. Spark plugs were oily.. because of the engine cover gasket which was bad. That led to oil going to spark plugs, which led spark plugs to work bad and not combust petrol and that petrol went to catalylitic converter which eventualy went bad because of fresh petrol on it. Check engine light was dead so I plugged it to a simple 10eur fault reader and there was that error. That led to high petrol consumption. I had to put a distancer to a second, lower O2 sensor. That helped a lot, from 10L /100km it went down to 8.3l/100km in a very urban and slow traffic.

I had two of these. One in Australia called then a Toyota ECHO and one in the UK a Yaris. The ECHO (I don't know why in Australia it had a different name) I sold to my father when I left Oz for the UK. That car was 10 years old when another car smashed into it at an intersection. It was unfortunately 'written off'. My UK Yaris I actually took over to Europe and drove around Germany which was a blast and this vid is bringing back memories of me flooring it on the Autobahn, didn't feel particularly stable and super noisy, but loads of fun. My Uk Yaris was 13 years old when I traded it in on a Mazda 3 and it was still going strong. I also had a couple of occasions in snow where my little Yaris would tootle past other bigger cars that were stuck. Tight parking spaces were no problem, price of fuel - it was so economical - no problem, zipping around the city, no problem. I used to think it was so cool having that 'digital speedo' look at cars now, digital everything! Awesome little cars.

My experience with this engine, car of my girlfriend, used as daily, then one day it stopped working, suddenly stalled.
She called me so I checked the car.
    As found,
    1. Low coolant, i meant not in the reservior but in the radiator itself, had to remove the cap but cant see where, topped up with around 4 liters of distilled water just to get by.
    2. No oil, not a single touch on dipstick (and yes she's driving it daily everywhrere)
I did everything only to found out that fuel gauge is faulty. topped up everything and still on daily.
Last oil change is November 2021, still using till now with, burns oil just topping up.
This happened at 160K kms, now it's over 200K kms.
It's on the garage rn, and were driving my car as daily with 200K kms also.
Im tellin you, that engine is unbelievable.
t's been used since late 90's until 2016 for Toyota Vios/Belta in Asian countries, PH TH.
The bad thing about this 1st Gen Yaris/Echo is the interior.
It's all plastic and it rattles a lot, like a lot. when we drive on rough roads interior is like gonna fall apart.

    • @tardeliesmagic

@@azam829 It's real comfy & not shaky at 120kph. But it does use more fuel that a 5sp manual, if you get a high mile Yaris you do need to change the automatic transmission with the proper Toyota Type4 if its a 1999-2002, from 2003 the fluid is WS fluid, use the proper Toyota fluid. I drained my 1.3L 2002 twice in 2 weeks and it went on for many years! Just change the engine oil every 6,500kms with good oil....not cheap oil! I use Castrol Magnatec myself, just spend 30 euros on oil, 25euros on oil i would not! Big difference is quality my friend.

The ugliest interior I have ever seen in a small car. That steering wheel is awful. Typical Toyota!

Not all cars are perfect, and the steering wheel isn't bad.

I mean, look at the 1998 e36 steering wheel

@@gamerguy2004-2zz E36 steering wheel is way better than this! It is in complete harmony with the car interior. It is however wrong to compare an ICON with an Econo box like Yaris.

@Nariman Asgharian what do you expect? The yaris was designed for new drivers and the city economy. The m3 was more for the average drivers.

@@Messergebnis-liebhaber and my opinion, steering wheel on the e36 doesn't look that good because how the middle of it looks.
