I've had 2 first generation Yarises. Currently a 2001 1.3 model made in Japan which I've had for over 6 years. It has 130000 miles on it and still going strong. I've never been faster than 80mph (128 kph) in it, but it feels like it's good for more. Absolutely bulletproof little cars.
"It has 130000 miles on it and still going strong." - XD nice joke)) 130k can beat even citroen or fiat. this Toyota can easily got 300 000 miles (with regular maintenance only). I was driven(test-drive) 1.0L yaris with 320 000 km on it - like a new one. Now i got one with 160k km from 2004 year.
@@emigrant4life I have Yaris 2000. 1.0 with 262000km and a C4 1.6hdi 2008.with 273000km, less problems with Citroen and not to mention the Citroen is 50% less consumption.. but Yaris is very fun to ride.

@fasttracklap8480 I bought it used. First problem, high consumption, 10l/100km . After many youtube and forum investigation, nothing helped. Spark plugs were oily.. because of the engine cover gasket which was bad. That led to oil going to spark plugs, which led spark plugs to work bad and not combust petrol and that petrol went to catalylitic converter which eventualy went bad because of fresh petrol on it. Check engine light was dead so I plugged it to a simple 10eur fault reader and there was that error. That led to high petrol consumption. I had to put a distancer to a second, lower O2 sensor. That helped a lot, from 10L /100km it went down to 8.3l/100km in a very urban and slow traffic.
I had two of these. One in Australia called then a Toyota ECHO and one in the UK a Yaris. The ECHO (I don't know why in Australia it had a different name) I sold to my father when I left Oz for the UK. That car was 10 years old when another car smashed into it at an intersection. It was unfortunately 'written off'. My UK Yaris I actually took over to Europe and drove around Germany which was a blast and this vid is bringing back memories of me flooring it on the Autobahn, didn't feel particularly stable and super noisy, but loads of fun. My Uk Yaris was 13 years old when I traded it in on a Mazda 3 and it was still going strong. I also had a couple of occasions in snow where my little Yaris would tootle past other bigger cars that were stuck. Tight parking spaces were no problem, price of fuel - it was so economical - no problem, zipping around the city, no problem. I used to think it was so cool having that 'digital speedo' look at cars now, digital everything! Awesome little cars.
I just got a 2002 toyota echo. Haven't gotten the insurance yet but the previous owner deleted the muffler so its incredibly loud at 3000rpm. Can't wait to start driving it
My experience with this engine, car of my girlfriend, used as daily, then one day it stopped working, suddenly stalled. She called me so I checked the car. As found, 1. Low coolant, i meant not in the reservior but in the radiator itself, had to remove the cap but cant see where, topped up with around 4 liters of distilled water just to get by. 2. No oil, not a single touch on dipstick (and yes she's driving it daily everywhrere) I did everything only to found out that fuel gauge is faulty. topped up everything and still on daily. Last oil change is November 2021, still using till now with, burns oil just topping up. This happened at 160K kms, now it's over 200K kms. It's on the garage rn, and were driving my car as daily with 200K kms also. Im tellin you, that engine is unbelievable. t's been used since late 90's until 2016 for Toyota Vios/Belta in Asian countries, PH TH. The bad thing about this 1st Gen Yaris/Echo is the interior. It's all plastic and it rattles a lot, like a lot. when we drive on rough roads interior is like gonna fall apart.
18 years old, 1.3 with "only" 87 cv and still reaches 180 km/h without any effort but with that annoying noise....although the car is saying to you you're driving too fast....🤣🤣🤣🤣 good video!!
The 1.0L is known as the best engine in the world,it's reliability & for it's bhp for such a small engine. Had a 1.3L 4sp auto for 14yrs....brilliant little thing.

@@azam829 It's real comfy & not shaky at 120kph. But it does use more fuel that a 5sp manual, if you get a high mile Yaris you do need to change the automatic transmission with the proper Toyota Type4 if its a 1999-2002, from 2003 the fluid is WS fluid,use the proper Toyota fluid. I drained my 1.3L 2002 twice in 2 weeks and it went on for many years! Just change the engine oil every 6,500kms with good oil....not cheap oil! I use Castrol Magnatec myself, just spend 30 euros on oil, 25euros on oil i would not! Big difference is quality my friend.

@@azam829 Just give it a good look over,many are rusty. Parts are cheap & plentyful,servicing is cheap & easy. I got KYB shocks on mine,they're good so don't buy cheap shocks. I looked after mine well, i cleaned the MAF sensor with the proper aerosol can....MAF sensor cleaner,not brake cleaner or carb cleaner.
This car is adorable and drives very well (classic Toyota quality; GG Toyota), but at 190km/h it says in engine language: *"SAVE ME!!! SAAAAVEEE MEEEEE!!!"* XD
Neat - 197 km/h! 😅 That was downhill! 😂 Mine is 18 years old, and it does between 180 and 190 km/h, when it's flat. But I don't often drive that fast and only for short stretches, because I'd like to keep my Yaris for another few years. 😁 It makes that same howling noise. It actually starts getting loud at about 130 km/h. 🙄 Well, I suppose it saves petrol not to go much faster than that.

Need to say, the 1.5 hybrid of Toyota (Yaris) is really fast. Top speed of 186 km/h flat road and if you want to overtake it goes really quick. Little bit delay between acceleration pedal and engine because of the CVT i think but that’s not a big thing

I had mine up to 175 kph with the same noise. I have seen it on 2 other cars. Any idea what can it be? Seems to be coming from the back right wheel. My guess is worn bearing

I have p1 yaris 1.3 from 2005, and i can say, yes it is still smooth. handling is fun to drive, maybe sometimes a bit to soft. But the gearbox can be notchy sometimes by fast gear shifts, but thats typical toyota🤷🏽♂️
In my 2010 Yaris 1.33L the gearbox is really smooth. The fact that there is some play in it makes it really easy and quick to shift. I have a GR86 too and the gearbox is very notchy, not so fun.

teilweise in video war leichte downhill deswegen über 190 kmh, sonst bei gerade schafft er ca 185 kmh. da 100 PS motor auf papier 190 ist könnte locker 200 erreichen.
Ich fahre einen mit 65 Ps und muss sagen, das die wirklich sehr flott sind, auch wenn der Tacho oben rum gut 10 kmh zuviel anzeigt. Bin immer wieder erstaunt, wirklich 😃

My Yaris 2010 has done 260,000 km and still going with no issues, I use it for food delivery. Tough little cars that can take a lot of beating.

no, this engine likes 4000-6000 on easy, (and 7000 for Honda engines(B16,D15)), this is Japanese car, not an old french diesel.

I have one 1.3 only 6k miles with 15 inch, kyb sr dampers, t sport springs, strut brace etc. Quick and good handling on b roads, really funne 2 driv.

ive had 120mph out of my 1.3 thats with standard intake and straight pipe from cat just a few days after i changed the spark plugs and and oil

No it is not the bearing, just the tyres hitting the upper front mud guards in the fenders, it is mostly because the plastic clips are not replaced..
I think my runx 2ZZ is nippy but you showed it only does 225Km/h odd
