Everything about this video is perfect, the answers Rory gives, the hand gestures and just the general ambiance; the rain on the windows the hum of electric appliances.
I have a hero, Rory Stewart, and simply love his stories and the way he has lived his life thus far. He is a beautiful person in all ways, this from an 80 year old woman who loves character and courage in another, the kind that I do not myself possess, but which I recognize in others. Rory is at t he top of that heap! READ HIS BOOKS!
Rather explains why he had to be stopped from being PM. Honest, brave and with a frightening amount of integrity. If he was PM something sensible might be achieved and the self serving deadheads in the government might be held accountable....and dispensed with.
This spoke to me. I am always (like many young men, and maybe women too, I don't know) thinking that I need to prove myself to the world and show how amazing I am. You don't need to do that.
Thank you to everyone who made this moment possible. This truly is a great achievement. I'd also like to take this opportunity to say that I'll be donating all the proceeds to worthy causes. Thank you once again.
Small then is the time that every man lives, and small the nook of the earth where he lives, and small too even the longest posthumous fame, and even this continued only by a succession of poor human beings, who will very soon die, and who know not even themselves, much less him who died long ago. - Marcus Aurelius
Rory talks about Enoch Powell and how his grand heroic conception of self is ridiculous in the modern world. Check out Powell on Desert Island Discs - classic example of this. RUclips wont let me post the link but google it and give it a listen, its fascinating.
Watch his “The Great Game”. He is extraordinary. He deserves to be a great politician. Don’t talk to me about his voting record. It’s a bit shoddy. He’s still far more intelligent that the blonde scarecrow.
Mr. Rory Stewart looks exhausted and was too nice to let the interviewer know this. The interviewer should have done the interview later and by phone- Skype - if he really wanted to capture Rory in video. Get some zzzzz Rory!
We need more people like him as part of that strange sespit of humanity that is the house of commons. He is not like the other nar issistic politicians and that is a great thing.
The reptile bit is wrong but it is true that he was on the official list of the 2011 Bilderberg attendees. It's how I came about watching and reading about him. As someone from the UK, I noticed his name in the Great Britain section of the list and thought - 'who is this guy?'. Turns out he seems quite OK so far. He's done a lot in his life - academically, professionally, philanthropically etc - he's actually an inspiration, so far.
I would very much like to see Rory Stewart given a chance as Prime Minister. Anyone who can THINK for a full 30 seconds before answering a question, as opposed to SPOUTING, like mountebank Boris Johnson, has my confidence,
Wonderful stuff. What is the third book he mentions that Lawrence carried (after 'The Iliad' and 'Le Morte d'Arthur') ?? Am sure it's a classic of classics.
www.telstudies.org/biography/biog_faq.shtml#G What were the three books that Lawrence carried and read during the Arab Revolt? In a letter to D. G. Hogarth of 7 April 1927, Lawrence wrote: "My books in Arabia were the Morte: Aristophanes (I read all the Peace, very gratefully, and without much technical trouble) and The Oxford Book of English Verse." (DG p. 512), The books were: Thomas Malory, Le Morte d'Arthur. This was probably not the copy that was in the Clouds Hill library when Lawrence died. Aristophanes, Comoediae accedunt perditarum fabularum fragmenta ex rec. G. Dindorfii, Vol. I (Oxford, Typ. Academ, 1835). The Clouds Hill copy was inscribed: 'T.E.L. Oxford 1914. This copy went with me through the Arab war. T.E.L.' The Oxford Book of English Verse 1250-1900, ed. Arthur Quiller-Couch (Oxford, Clarendon Press, 1915). The Clouds Hill copy was inscribed "Bought in Cairo 1916. Carried through Hejaz and Syria 1917-1918. T. E. Lawrence, Damascus, 1.10 [1918].'
yes . . the 60 second pause . . . was quite something . . made me chuckle interesting to hear a more light-hearted conversation with Mr Stewart for a change as for his office décor . . . yikes !! . . a bit dour
May knew from the start that it was very unlikely she would be able to be transformative as PM -too many other forces I assume. But you just have to do what you can do for the best.
Has anyone else seen the videos of people being morphed into Arnold Schwarzenegger? Maybe it’s just me but I keep seeing Arnold’s face in Rory’s... Deep fake ; )

Very acute observation

Let's hope he becomes mayor!
Rory is too competent and decent a human being to be PM and that is a sad indictment of our political system.
@@laurencedavey3121 The system rewards psychopathy and manipulative con artists.
@@marcuscato3599I agree.

This guy has one hell of a good pr team.
I had read the book - the places in between - as a keen traveler. Never put that book to the politician. Good to connect the dots.
he's my hero

Great video.
... Mr. Rory Stewart, from my point of view you are a very Hero in "Times and Places in Between the House of Commons" ...

one day, I would like to be a Rory Stewart.

Biting insight into the man.
Very enlightening, thanks.

Rory for PM.
Fascinating Guy ...

Wish the sound was better😞
Seems very honest
Was this filmed at Dunder Mifflin?

as for his office décor . . . yikes !! . . a bit dour
A nice room destroyed with cheap electric trunking
Would love to have a Beer with Rory...
In time all forgotten.
'Rory of Afghanistan' has clearly modeled himself after his hero 'Lawrence of Arabia'.
👍👍👍👍👍
Mr. Stewart. Say smth about Corona Vaccination?
It was closer to 30 seconds, in truth. But even a 60 second pause doesn't make someone amazing. Not in reality anyway.

And for one final thought, and as a demonstration that I am truly worthy of the title -
It's "Your...", not "You're..."

This is the result when you are bullied throughout 16 years of education and didn't realise why.
personaly i think its a shame, surely its better to admire alexander than kim kardashian,
his moutharea is so strange
Glass houses mate...
Keep hiding..
Yawn. Come on Rory, leave out the waffle (and the long pauses) and you could have been done and dusted in a fraction of the time!
We mustn't delay when it comes to Brexit (if he becomes PM) heh

His pauses have more meaning than the utterances of most UK politicians
