Recently found you and love this series, even though it also breaks my heart to hear about all that you went through. My husband also endured a lot of chaos but rose above and has worked his butt off (even since we began dating 18 yrs ago). He is a success story for both the Hispanic and Italian sides of his family. I grew up in a loving home that, despite financial and medical struggles, was the safe space for sooooo many friends (mine, my siblings and my parents). Even still, hubby and I try to make sure our home feels like a safe space for our son's friends as they navigate the teen stage of their lives.
I hope you continue to heal from your past and use it as fuel to keep that drive to do better and be better for you and your family.
The adults in these stories really need to be held accountable b/c the "Peaches" and the "Voltimore" took advantage of a child in need and were very emotionally abusive. Children make mistakes because they r still learning and growing....adults don't get that same pass bc they know better.

Yes!!! I just broke up with my bestie of 7 years recently. Not only did I love her, but I loved her family as well. There’s not a single thing that I wouldn’t have done for them. I just came to the realization that she wasn’t good for me or my sobriety. The friendship was very one sided and toxic and I couldn’t trust her at all. That feeling alone is so sh*tty. Knowing the person you’d do anything for doesn’t have your best interest in mind, nor would they 100% back you like you would them. I’m thankful I’ve learned to set boundaries now... cause I now see how toxic it truly was and I’m a lot less stressed! I sometimes forget I get to choose who I have in my life.

It’s so weird how mental trauma works….you never get over it. Given the right trigger and everything comes back vividly. Prepping yourself when you see a fight about to happen even if it has nothing to do with you is a reminder of this.

Kinda agree but at the same time I kinda see why she would. Its hard not to stop loving someone who was always you and your mom/dad against the world. Its almost the same thing with my mom. Other than that her step dad deserves *slams court gavel* the electric chair. Now i dont mean all people should forgive a family member that has treated them awful or put them on a terrible spot because i understand everyone moves and heals differently and their choices are valid.
all there is in this world is kindness. from experience, everyone can hurt you. everyone can treat your poorly. the ones who deserve forgiveness are the ones who keep loving you and can be forgiven *after* honesty and ownership. when you’re REALLY walking alone in this world, we remember the good times over the bad. it gives me so much hope that her situation w her mom improved. my abuela always says, “thats still your mom. the only one you got. always will be.” and shes SO RIGHT. (excluding violence) moms always always deserve forgiveness more than anyone- they give up more than we will ever know, for us. her mom loves her endlessly and, if that is genuine, anything else can be overcome.

I feel so much for you because my mom went through her own hell with a mother who treated her like a dog. When I would hear what she went through it just made me cry so much because she was the best mom ever. She gave us all the love she always wanted from her mother. Ugh I felt that so hard too girlfriend 😔💔 I lost my best friend of 15 years a couple weeks ago, she was brutally shot to death with her boyfriend outside of their home, which also has to be on the same street I live on too. And she’s buried at the cemetery between our houses 😞 She was that soulmate person for me, and I know none of my other “friends” will ever be like that. Hell none of them have even bothered to ask how I’m doing. Not even my own sister, and I needed my sister right now. Like she said “if they wanted to, they would” 😪 it’s the truest statement I ever heard

Alexis does your mom to this day still talk to your stepdad. I can’t remember if you have already said that. And I also played games in my head when I was young to be able to live what I was going through at that time.

Girl I slept in a strangers dog house at 14. It’s was my homegirls friends parents house & his parents didn’t know I was there. I know exactly how you feel like. To this day I wish my mom got her shit together. I relate to you so much. I even have custody of my little brother too. I so badly wish I could go back and tell my younger self that it’s going to be okay, life is going to get better for you, it ain’t gonna be the bestest but it’s better than what’s going on now.

Alexis did you ever do what I did when I was younger, that if I happened to walk by a family having a “get together “ or a holiday and wonder in your head what that felt like to be those people and see everyone having a good time and knowing they would have a place to lay their head at night and never feel unwanted, cold, hungry etc?
I don't know if she did but I know a few people who did. My parents would always try to help and let them stay with us but when their parents were "doing" better they would come get them. It was soo frustrating even at that age to see what they went through. When my dad got killed they ALL spoke at his funeral about how amazing and caring he was. I'm glad to say most of them also overcame their childhoods and are thriving now!!

I really hope she’s grown to realize what a shitty situation she allowed her children to be in and has tried to fix that. My mother did similar bs, letting men who were her friends prey on me. Hey alexisjayda I'm saying this from a pure heart, and I don't want to come across as judgemental as you mentioned that your mom was dealing with her own demons. But as a mother she should have just let that man go especially after what he did to you. And still doesn't not treat her right. I personally feel as though if my own daughter that's a minor chooses to move out because of a person I'm dating I would just let the person go because it's simply shows how bad her situation is and as a mother you always back your child.

You know what's f***n crazy. Sam didn't give a crap about pissing the peaches off for something she wanted but she cared so much when it came to having you in the house. It’s hard not to judge. I am so sorry you went through what you have. As someone who has lived partially in your shoes and being a parent now. I can’t imagine ever letting my child go through what we have. Let alone me working stuff out with someone who damaged my child. Hearing your stories always has me reflect back to my life and man we had some F up situations and growing up too fast. Look at us now!! Talking it out and acknowledge this was out of your control and you did the best you could with what you had really helps you heal and become a better person!!
One time a secret I told my bestfriend got out and I ONLY told her and she swore up and down she didn’t tell anyone and I didn’t believe her because b’ I only told you. Come to find out one of her friends had read her diary and told her friends and that’s how it got around. But I was still lowkey mad because why are you writing my secrets down 😭😭😭☺️

I’m a very strong woman and never took shit from anyone including my kids dad that I divorced because he became an alcoholic & I wanted my kids to see that they shouldn’t tolerate it either but it doesn’t always work either cuz outta my 4 kids one of my daughters just keeps putting up with a POS that has continually cheated on her and I just don’t understand when she’s so pretty and has an amazing heart and great personality and has guys always asking her out yet she stays with someone who makes her feel she not good Enuf to be loved by anyone else.
