I use to rent this from blockbuster everytime along with tecmo bowl when I was a little boy, I liked it so much my dad bootlegged it for me and I was happy. This was my beginning of me being a football stat guru and the love of the game, I was about 8 years old. Its corny, but its the truth, great memories, thanks for posting.
My parents had a copy of this video (same version in fact) and that was the first NFL Films project I remember watching (was about that same age in fact)
This was great, also back in the 80s ESPN & later ESPN 2 would show every Super Bowl highlight film (the half hr NFL FILMS segment w the John Fascnda narration) it would run from the day before through the afternoon of the big game.
I thought I was the only person who was obsessed with this as a kid, but based on the comments, I can see there are many others. Glad to know I’m not alone. I can still quote pretty much the entire thing.
Yes! I remember getting this as a free promo from some product my mom bought. I watched this so many times i can still recite the words! Great memories 🎉
i was four years old when I first watched this. 8 hours a day watching this and the other tapes I had my dad buy. the first 9 years of my life was studying this and other films. I'm so happy I could find it again.
As a child my grandparents lived next to a man who worked for NFL films and he gave us a bunch of videos, this was by far our favorite. We used to watch this film religiously and as very young children my cousin and me could quote this film word for word. Not only did this film begin our love for football but it is also the reason we are both die hard Raiders fans. Such an amazing film and a unforgettable childhood memory.
I remember watching this VHS tape since I was 12, now I'm 34 years old and I still love watching it. I love Jeff Kaye's voice and the music. I've manage to make an incomplete list of the music soundtrack: ("Title" - Artist) Opening: Solo Flight - Sam Spence Super Bowl I: "Knockout Stab#2" - Sam Spence "Life On The Wildside"- Sam Spence "Magnificent Eleven"- Sam Spence Super Bowl II: "Army Life"- Sam Spence "Champions Homecoming"- Sam S. In 1987 I was 43 years old, so these old tapes / films don't mean the same to me as to younger guys. Growing up in Chicago I became a big Bear fan, and because of that I am trying to find films that were made in the mid 50's of the Bears TV show called the Chicago Bears football Club ? Every Monday night during the season the Bears had a show on WGN in the Chicago area by that name. It was hosted by Jack Brickhouse along with Red Grange. I loved that show, anybody know if I can get copies ? Being 74 years old does not keep me from still being a huge fan. I attended my first Bear game in Wrigley in 1953.
When I was 3 years old my mom wanted to get me Starting Lineups for Christmas. I told her I wanted the "pig guy". She had no idea what I was talking about until I put on this tape. I was talking about the fan @57:31. She burst out laughing
I still have the VHS copy of this video. This came out after the Redskins, my team, won Super Bowl XXII over the Broncos and I was excited to get anything commemorating that victory.
The dialogue spoken by Jeff Kaye here is taken almost directly word for word from the John Facenda narrated Super Bow highlight pieces, also from NFL FILMS.
Me and my room mates used to watch these Nfl films over and over. No politics from espn. Just watching and enjoying. Same with live sports. Now. Not so much.
Watched this daily from time I was 8 to 9 about a full year, but the version I had went all the way up to Super Bowl XXV Bills/Giants, wore the tape out and the VCR ate it
Sam Spence was the composer of most of the NFL fill during this time. Each team had their own music, the Cowboys, Steelers and the Raiders have the most memorable in my opinion.
Those Cowboys/Steelers Super Bowls were good ones, and I saw the Chiefs/Vikings game on tv. Not to detract from how powerful the Vikings were, but I've seen the entire game again (You Tube) and the highlights over and over. The big Chiefs hammered the Vikes around like the Vikes were bowling pins. No doubt, at that point, that the AFL had great teams.
@Matt Pizzano Chiefs put a 285 pound man on a 235-pound center in the '69 Super Bowl and Vikes' D couldn't deal with the blocking and multiple sets the Chiefs used. They'd get them good in Bloomington the next year, though. They really hammered the Chiefs.
At 40:07 they make it look like the 49ers goal line stand happened on the last play of the game. I was 10 years old when I first watched this and for a while I thought that's what happened. I was shocked when I later learned that the play happened in the third quarter.
I had this too on VHS watch this so many times in the late 80s cause the last Superbowl was the 49ers and Broncos on this film 55-10 49ers rout Denver🤜🤛👊✌
54:58 Even though it's kinda funny, I can feel and understand his pain. If super bowl XXI was a nightmare this Super Bowl XXII was a typical mean spirited sequel.
Chuck Howley of the Dallas Cowboys actually won the MVP reward of Super Bowl 5 and still is the only player from a team That lost a super bowl with the honor.
I remember watching the game that year as I am a Cowboys fan so of course I had to cheer them on. But I will give credit to Neil he did help lead the Steelers to the big game and didn’t quit. Definitely hard fought game
@ 5:18, Fred Williamson is full of shit. Boyd Dowler re-injured his shoulder on the 4th play of the game while blocking at the line of scrimmage. He initially injured it 2 weeks earlier after catching a TD pass and Mike Gaechter of the Dallas Cowboys gave him a cheap shot. Dowler landed on his shoulder. Moreover, he wasn't helped off of the field.
I thought the story of the Hammer in the first super bowl was a legend before it was discovered through restored footage Williamson blatantly lied about injuring Boyd Dowler. He was injured blocking and wasn't near the Hammer.
In 77’ Oakland or Pitts.. I thought was the Best team thn..& in 78’ SB Stallworth had 160 yards at halftime but bad cramps couldn’t play 2nd Half against Dallas..I’d Love too See how many yrd he’d ended up with..&82’ Who Wouldn’t Wanted too See Fouts an Chargers Offense against Montana.!!?

So much of this music is not findable… it makes me so sad because it’s amazing music and melodies, engrained in my childhood.
Use to watch this so many times as a kid just like a lot of us, the music is what always made this video awesome along with Jeff Kayes narration

I watched this video so many times when I was a kid. I’m so glad this is available. I know way too much about Super Bowls 20 years before I was born.
Me too! People are amazed I can tell you who won and lost every game, the MVP, where it was played, etc.
I was 7 years old when I found this VHS at a thrift store. Probably watched this at least 100 times. Thanks so much for reposting!

This was my go-to VHS as a kid.
They dont make productions like this anymore. This is truly a gem and I watch it several times a year.
This video got me into football, I must have watched it 1 billion times as a kid.
Thanks for posting! An excellent recap of the first 22 Super Bowls.
19:30 Still holds true in 2023.
I still have the VHS copy of this video. This came out after the Redskins, my team, won Super Bowl XXII over the Broncos and I was excited to get anything commemorating that victory.
My favourite part of this vhs is amount of hits on john elway from that super bowl, great seeing him take a beating!
I had this for VHS tape and I watch it a lot when I was a kid
The dialogue spoken by Jeff Kaye here is taken almost directly word for word from the John Facenda narrated Super Bow highlight pieces, also from NFL FILMS.
That's what I noticed I'm like I heard this before lol
It kind of seems like he plagiarized it
Facenda died 5 years earlier, someone had to overdub him. Why not Kaye?
Notice how Steve Sabol who probably wrote this, used lines from every super bowl highlight when Jeff Kaye did the narration.
I noticed that as well! Not the same ring as John Facenda! Great nonetheless!
Nick Canning I actually like Kaye more than Fascenda.
There is actually another tape called Super Stars from the Super Bowls which is basically the same as this one but Facenda narrates it
30:35
That would not be a catch in today's NFL.
This is the Holy Grail of Football for me.

Does anyone know the name/artist of the music at 25:33 (beginning of super bowl X) and at 32:57 (middle of super bowl XIII)?
Sam Spence was the composer of most of the NFL fill during this time. Each team had their own music, the Cowboys, Steelers and the Raiders have the most memorable in my opinion.
The song that starts at 32:57 is electro zone by Sam Spence
I'm looking for the song that starts at 33:52. Don't know the name
