Let's get John to 1000 subs!
Mission accomplished! It looks like you have become the spring board for many automotive content creators. Which is a good thing!
Couldn't have done it without you!
@@FicarraClassic Aw shucks John! It wasn't like I had.......Oh, wait! Are you talking to me, or Ed? 😂🤣
subscribed!
I had to comment when you said "pearl white".
There was one 959 for over a decade, driven daily and parked in the centre of Glyfada (affluent suburb of Athens) in Greece. It was pearl white. I've seen the Japanese car which is more "pearl off-white".
Anyone my age (mid-40s) that lived and grew up in Athens knows about the particular car, we all seen it, inspected it when parked...
it was magnificent. Keep in mind it was a big deal to see even a 911 on the street back then. imagine a shiny pearly 959...
Now this is the level of car geekery I need in my life, congratulations on the launch of your channel good sir.
I agree with you , John is a special talent on the car racing scene . Even if you were only one foot including o racing you can be sure you will have changed your mind by the end of any of his videos. A mine of information , expertly presented . I'm totally sold . Thanks for posting .
This man is a fountain of vehicular knowledge!
Ha, I was the 959th subscriber
I saw that
There’s nothing better than John talking about cars. What a treasure we have in this man and yes this can be red.
Had no idea of the 6th place 959 being a parts car. That is the geeky facts that I am so looking forward too!
Omg! He answered my question! It can be red! (If you know you know) Awesome! I'm jumping up and down! I bought that t shirt btw. Keep up the good work!
They can all be red, but only if the money is right!
They can all be red, but only if the money is right!
OMG you make me laugh. Do we have time for this? John, we could listen to you talk for hours. Please do not limit yourself when your on a run.
Love it when you get excited and break into a story. Keep up the good work and God bless you brother.
Between John and Jason Cammisa, I could burn up way too much time... but it would be well spent!! CarGeeks, GearHeads, PetrolHeads, whatever... they all fit this bunch of obsessed old guys (and a few younger ones as well!!) I'm just fine with that. 😂
Saw a 959 chassis at the Deutches museum in Munich 1992
Homie, you get the like right away. Love your stories, better yet, I love your style of story telling.
There is a 959 Convertible. It was a car that was crashed by a german race driver in 1987 and they rebuilt it to a white convertible. It was sold in 2016, asking price was 1.200.000 Euro.
Thanks! I will have to look that up. New info is great info.
Yes it was a swiss car then sold in italy original silver then After crash rebuild white with a carrera 3.2 blue convertibile top
@@pierfrancescoborzatta391 thank you!
I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question John! I'm also excited to see whatever random things you post on RUclips because it's bound to be interesting.
You really are just one of those people that has more knowledge to share than outlets to share it in! Hope you keep enjoying it, I know we all are
no idea John had a YT channel. Glad to be here (thx to VinWiki)
Commenting for the algorithm mostly, but I have to say I love the content and I can't wait to see more of it :)
Oh nice fast upload hell yeah
John, I am thrilled that you have started your RUclips Channel! This promises to be incredibly, witty, insightful and entertaining! I will enjoy this!!!
I"ve touched that prototype pearl white Porsche at the factory in the early 90's. the paint looked 5 inches deep. amazing. john is the man. his love, and expertise is clear. keep it up!
Congrats on getting episode Numero Uno in the can, AND reaching 1k subs. There is no doubt that you love what you do. I can't wait to see what car geekery you have in store for us in the next episode of #FicarraClassics #ThisCanBeRed
I was fortunate enough to both work on AND drive Bill Gates' 959 in late 2000 when I was a rookie Porsche technician at Barrier Porsche.
My instructor at at Porsche Training and Apprenticeship Program for me quite emphatically that I would never see nor touch a 959 as a technician and that they are "unobtanium". What an absolute treat and honor to even touch one of these amazing vehicles!
I still regard this as one of my greatest car/truck memories.
Great video that I've watched several times now.
Wow, this is better than I expected and my expectations where high! Knowledge and enthusiasm is always riveting and when combined with good anecdotes it is the best. A friend of mine loved niche magazines in the 90's, no matter the subject, and he got me hooked also. The reason is that when the writer is really knowledgeable and enthusiastic, it goes beyond the subject and is a joy to read but I helps if there is some kind of technical or mechanical thing to start with. It's also assuming that the reader has knowledge about the subject. This is the modern version of a niche magazine and it's just fantastic. Thank you for starting this channel!
I remember walking into the shop at a Canepa open house and seeing so many 959's in various states of modification. Just amazing! Great video, can't wait for more. Would love to hear some Lemons stories.
i can listen to these stories endlessly😄 we need more! Hello from Estonia 🇪🇪🚘
I agree with you an Irish fan here . An Irish saying when you're happy , " I'm as happy as a pig in shit " . I'm looking forward to more videos from John .
We need more Porsche content! The 928's will suffice for now but you know we love the weird, wacky, and wonderful facts that only a racecar can produce!
Epic details John! I love the 959 and the rebuilds that Canepa is doing. I was in heaven at the last Rennsport when they had the dedicated tent just for 959s. I have a picture with 10 of them all together. Such amazing cars. I’d love to ride in one some day!
VooDoo Ranger IPA, Got a shelf in the fridge full of them. Fantastic video, can't wait for what comes next!
Thanks for doing this Ficarra.. I subscribed as soon as you posted the FB post.. I've been scared to start my channel because like yourself, i'm doing it all myself, watching time, looking at a screen out of frame while recording to make sure things are right.. Seeing you do it just really helped my confidence.. It would mean a lot if you would subscribe..
Really enjoyed watching this as well as the Vinwiki video.. For myself, You and Christopher are the top story tellers on Vinwiki so I'm glad to see you're starting your own channel.. I look forward to see whats to come..
John..... You, my friend are one of the three shining stars of the VinWiki video universe!
Please, please, please keep contributing the amazing content!
Regards,
Mike.
Thanks, will do!
I am here for the Porsche Historical Knowledge!!!
Well done, Ficarra! So happy to see you unleash your unlimited supply of car geekery into the world at last.
Fantastic stuff, Ficarra! Very knowledgeable.
Super Interesting Video. I worked for a Porsche Audi Dealer and Race Shop as a Race Team Coordinator and one of our team's 944 Turbo S Race Cars came into Al Holbert's Warrington Porsche NA Facility at the same time as the 959s, They were sitting there in the same garage as his 962s on Pallets, vacuum-wrapped with Customs' Warning Stickers. For a long-time, I kiddingly said I would sell my little sister to own a 959 and had that same poster in your video on my bedroom wall :)
Good to see you have your own channel for your great stories John
Love your stories on Vinwiki, going to binge watch your channel
WOW! What an interesting 30 minutes. Thanks for your sharing the info
I used to have access to that area in the port of Oakland. I was able to checkout so many amazing cars that just sat there. Pretty neat to see.
Well done! In the unlikely event we ever meet, I shall have plenty of Voodoo Ranger IPA on hand while we discuss the Jensen Interceptor. Keep up the good work, I'll be watching. Take care.
The mighty, mighty Interceptor! Needs me an FF!
@@FicarraClassic Who doesn't? I could learn to live with right hand drive in the unlikely event I ever stumbled onto one. Thanks for the reply!
We need more content like this. Geeking out fully
Thank you for clearing up the cars in customs hold on Oakland. Road and Track and Car and Driver magazine wrote articles on them, but never read explained it fully..
Amazing channel! High entertainment value. Thank you for producing
I can't wait for more Storys
Amazing stuff John
Great video! Thanks for sharing your wealth of nerdy knowledge.
Having spent over 17 years in Germany (and having tremendous respect and love of their culture) your story of the T.U.V. inspection is painfully close to reality.
I seen one in the Morespeed shop in Campbell CA. They had a 917-30, 956, 962, 917, and 917-10 all in the one shop. It was glorious
The noise it make really is amazing to hear
5:35
There is one example.
It IS the car that had it’s roof smashed when new, en route from the factory.
The car was repaired and completed by late 1989.
The last time I saw the car in the flesh was in a showroom in Monaco in 1991 during that year’s Grand Prix weekend.
It was white with white wheels.
If I remember correctly the soft top and interior were a contrasting dark blue.
I am not aware of who carried out the repairs, or the conversion from hard top to convertible, but the car looked stunning and flawlessly finished in person.
Awesome! You answered questions I hadn't thought of yet. Thank you sir.
Love your enthusiasm on cars in general. The 959 piece both here and VinWiki are sensational!
Thanks for sharing and congrats on your channel! Cheers from Florida
excellent
I'd love to hear more about that guy that got one to the US on his yacht. Love your videos, and just subscribed!
As somebody from Macau, these cars have not been seen yet. But I'm certainly on the lookout for them!
Whoever ask can this car be red is the champion! I have a feeling it was the crazy disco dj general Lee guy.
You need a merch store. I would buy more "This can be red" shirts. Had to fight to get it back from my girlfriend.
Time for you to be back on Driven Radio Show!
John, John, John.... it's a "damper", not a "dampener." A dampener would make something wet, whereas, a damper damps motion. Yes, I know, it's in common usage. That doesn't mean it's right. That said... I'm looking forward to your channel! You have been a favorite presenter on Vin Wiki.
You will have a gazillion subscribers in about a week. Just keep the car geek stuff coming!
I had a 1979 Targa.......what a car !!!!
Great job, my fellow car geek. Let's see 100k subscribers! I know there's other people like us!
I love this kind of thing, I’ll subscribe sure. Please do this for every car 😊
More of these historical videos please!!!
I needed this amount of nerdiness from this human. Amazing work. Will we get an opportunity to meet you in person?, Say at an auto event or something?!!!
I subscribed, congratulations on your new channel.
Thanks John / Love your style
Looking forward to more videos
When's the next one?
That was excellent.
Sweet!
Great video. 👏
👏👏👏
Love this...need a part 2. Is there anything on the 930s history??
To me, the 500E build by Porsche is something similar to victorinox assembling hairdryers for a while for AEG in the early 00.
Porsche was broke and needed something to earn them money, and that quick. And they got to make the 500E by the company that isn't located far away from Porsche. (which some would consider a rival)
And when the sales of swiss army knives at airports all around the world almost ceased entirely due to new airport security after 9/11 and victorinox lost considerable income, they didn't want to fire their employees like so many companies do.
Vic is still a family owned company and not noted on any stock exchange (so they don't care about stake holders but they do care for their employees), and the guy who was the owner at that time who knew every employee at tha factory by name managed to get electronics company AEG to let them assemble hair dryers so nobody would loose their job. So they won some time to think. And with retiremends of age and a few tweaks they managed to not have to fire anyone. (got that from a swiss tv documentary i found a few years ago when the old men went into retirement, but still showed up at the factory to have a chat with the employees almost every day.)
Something else: many know the Harley V-rod with the water cooled 60° V2 as being engineered by Porsche for Harley. But the Evo engine HArley made also had Porsche doing devellopment for Harley already. (i read that in a Harley owners club magazine long ago. So even HD told it themselves)
Can u tell me about the 962 street car. I saw one at coffee and cars dallas once and it was beyond amazing. There was a 918 also and they were tandem down the toll rd. The 962 i read the numbers were unknown for production. This true? I could go for 30 min of talk about it.
There was one non-factory 959 convertible. I read about it and saw pictures in a magazine (Sports Car International, maybe?). The owner wrecked it, possibly on the drive home from the dealer when new (so this is way back in the 80's), and had it converted then. It was white if I recall.
I don't recall if it was wrecked that soon in its life, but it was wrecked in Germany, and with the help of Auto Becker (the famous, now bankrupt exotic car dealer in Düsseldorf) the 959 was rebuilt to be three cars: it was a hardtop coupe with the original roof; then you could take off the roof just like any modern hardtop convertible (think Porsche 996 Cabriolet with the hardtop), and then, the most crazy part of all: you could swap the windshield and its surround with another one, custom made and based on the 911 speedster windshield. In this case you could use a rag top if needed (I cannot remember if it was integral part of the car or not). The car was (is?) for sale at 2.000.000€ in Italy, near Venice (Portogruaro), and you are correct, it is white.
John: Thanks for your videos, I thoroughly enjoyed this video and the one about the Audi 200! I will find the time to watch the others as well, for the moment I subscribed to your channel and I'm looking forward to what you will bring us :-)
Hello John from Birmingham area GB. I absolutely love your knowledge and enthusiasum for all things automotive. I just wanted to say that in my most humble opinion, this video would have been even better if you had posted up pictures that you were quoting from as you discussed that topic, such as the three "doors" on the Comfort 959's 👍
I had that poster as a kid!
Oh hell yeah I'd love to hear the story of the 959 federalized in SF as a 911 Turbo
Good times!!!
I'm in on the shirt too
John is guy that would be fun to hang out with over a few brews.
Thanks for sharing.
Awesome video.
Love the 959 and your passion for them.
I have a question the F40 wasn't it more expensive than the 959 like $400,000 ?
@ficarraclassic, do you have any updates on the re-issue of that shirt?
My brain hurts... in a good way.
Please post a link to the golden gate bridge picture
Love your Channel Subscribed, I look at My 993 and pretend it's a 959;
Now I’m expecting a deep dive LeMans and Paris-Dakar video…😉🤓🏁
You touched on the EB110, is it true they had a tyre warranty? As in you could go to a track day, destroy a set of tyres and have them replaced under warranty?
Never heard that one, but sounds like I should look into it!
Do the Ferrari GTO.
On the list! And that list is getting long!
I subscribed, congratulations on your new channel 👍
“ … and that is the complete history of the Porsche 959”
“Sir, this is a Wendy’s”
You're going to need a camera that can record for longer than a half hour.
“This can be red”😂😂😂😂😂😂
and one for the algorithm
Ficarra stop slacking we need more than just VINWIKI! Its not enough story detail. Hence this channel. So Cmon! Upload bruh! 👍
At the time of me watching this there are 959 subscribers. I, myself, am 456, easy to remember. Almost want to unsubscribe so I can resubscribe to get that signed poster.
Yeah me too at 994 I finished watching the video and was past the one K mark. Seems he is the only vinwiki personality I have searched by name and now this a few weeks later.
There is an 959 Cabrio conversion, in You Need Pics, i can send You some 👌🏻
It's insane to me how much you know about this.
It took me a while to realise there weren't going to be 959 questions.
Nicola Materazzi episode? :D
