I love this monk and Thai Forest Tradition..I first came across Buddhism in my late twenties but kept getting caught up in destructive habits in the world on and off..I am 61 years old now and have made a commitment to stay with it for the rest of my days..I hope to visit Amaravati again soon..metta, Andrew 😊❤🙏

Thanks so much for whoever is posting these videos. Sumedho is the real seeker and teacher of Now....Unlike all those spontanneously so-called enlightened gurus: Lottery winners who are teaching others how to win the lottery -- utter nonsense.

Sometimes when we think we're hearing the words, we aren't really hearing or listening at all. Because the deeper meaning lay underneath what we think is being said. At least this is true in my case. So what I had to do do was to paraphrase -- in my own words -- word for word, what Ajahn Sumedho was saying. And it worked. It always does. This is how that "lightbulb" in my head goes on -- when I paraphrase. I am so thankful that finally I got this because in the beginning, it kind of made no sense to me. So if you're patient, not in a hurry, and put in the right effort, you can get to the bottom, and below your conditioned "personality", and you'll discover the profundity in Ajahn's reflection.

I had to listen to this talk about a dozen times to fully understand. And when I did, it was as if another "layer" of ignorance was lifted from me. Thank you. Sadhu 3X.

I too go on and on listening to Luang Por Sumedho's talks. I could understand them clearly after I read his books at Amaravathi Buddhist Monastery site on google.

I first heard the sound of silence when I learned TM in high school. I took it for granted. It now I realize that this sound was “it”. There is no need to “do” something.

Ajahn Sumado wrote a text on meditating on "the sound of silence " it boils down to using the "sound" of tinitius as a meditation object.
pretty smart when you think about it.

Tremendous wisdom in these days of new quick fire books on the spiritual life which tend to be popular and then lose their audience quickly

It is better to say “everybody is deluded”, rather than “everybody is crazy”.
The part where he says “don’t turn meditation into and exercise, just be the observer” is a key lesson.
Ask “what is it that can observe?” or “what is it that knows.” or “what is it that knows.”
You learn how to let go of habits.

But meditation is useful to dig into things. Yes - after all, you are the observer. But it's not wise to use meditation as a spiritual bypass. People in the west are all traumatized and crazy indeed and it takes a lot of work to uncover all the trauma that we've gone through.
If you only observe you never do the actual work.
      Sincerely,
my ego :) (I go back to observing now)

Thank you very much for making these videos available. But, Steve, maybe you could correct the title: "Everybody's." It would be an act of generosity to remove a spelling error from beneath Luang Por Sumedho's image. Peace.

What's the difference between attachment to something and awareness of that same thing?
For instance, if I am attached to the idea of a new car. When I am enveloped in an idealic and sexy and seductive car commercial production on my big screen TV. Am I aware of it or am I not aware of it?
When you are aware of attachment to something, are you aware of the thing or of attachment or both?
How do you develop skill in understanding the difference between a thing and my attachment to it?
