Nobody does pentatonic//flat 5// Chromatic riffs with as much bad assery and attitude and swagger as Dave Mustaine. Da Masta of Da Mostest delici-oso tasty raw riffs eva eva Elefson is right up there too. Bad Omen. Last Words. Dawn Patrol. Five Magics. And the list goes on.
Chromatic scales & riffs are a staple of metal & Dave has them down to a science. His "spider chords" are an extension of that, I think. PS: I think the Marty solo on this song is incredible; probably better than Tornado of Souls in my humble opinion. The chord progression underneath makes it really great...
[Verse 1] Sitting up late at night I tiptoe through the darkness Cold as Hell, black as spades Aware of my immediate surroundings In my place, I escape Up into my hideout Hiding from everyone My friends all say "Dave, you're mental anyway." (Hey!) Drift into a deeper state I stalk the cobwebbed stairways Dirt grits beneath my feet The stair creaks, I precariously sneak, yeah [Verse 2] Hypnosis guides my hand I slip-slide through the walkways Sit in Granny's rocking chair Memories are whirling by (Yeah!) Reminiscing in the attic Lucretia waits impatiently Cobwebs make me squint The cobra so eloquently glints Moonbeams surge through the sky The crystal ball is energized Surely that, like the cat Waiting, Lucretia rocks away (Hey!)
Nah that's actually boring, love the instrumentals alot but the vocals give it...I don't know? That flow? No clue what I'm saying but I especially love the vocals on Lucretia, I know most people don't like Dave's voice but I love it alot.
Great song, it feels like Marty gave us the greatest solo of 1993 and then Dave came a long with his solo and took a huge dump on top of Marty's work. wtf Dave!
@@astro2691 You're absolutely right, my bad. I admire Dave as much as the next guy but dude you just can't describe Dave's solo here as anything positive, sorry.
I actually prefer dave's solo. Don't get me wrong, marty's is fucking amazing, but dave just has this sloppy chromatic style the really influenced me a lot.
Overkill imho it doesn't ruins the music, it's just a different voice, it gives an unique feel to me, cause there are many singers who sound exactly the same, especially in extreme metal.
@@vrs9486 I dont think he has a bad voice, he just cant write vocal melodies, his singing is so much difrent and missed from the music part that it hurts bad, even when hes voice sounds ok, most popular Megadeath songs are simphony and tornado because he did his melodies right there, not just a bad singer but a bad whriter... But megadeths guitarwork, its sooooooooooooo goood, I dont like daves solos, all tho he is amongs the best riffers out there, marty is my fav guitar player ever. He, and hetfield made me pick up the guitar.
Im not agree with you, i like his voice. But i Can understand you, it's special on the firts albums, until youthanasia. On the other hand, do you recognize that his crazy compositions are excellent ? Especially since he sings at the same time. 😊 💪🎸
Bro that verse riff is honestly so fire! Dave is a riff writing machine 🤘🤘🤘

That by far has got to be the best guitar solo I’ve ever heard amazing.

Sitting up late at night
I tiptoe through the darkness
Cold as Hell, black as spades
Aware of my immediate surroundings
In my place, I escape
Up into my hideout
Hiding from everyone

Reminiscing in the attic
Lucretia waits impatiently
Cobwebs make me squint

Waiting, Lucretia rocks away (Hey!)
One of my favorites and WHAT A F... SOLO!!! Friedman is a genius!
like how they left the laught at the intro. its so iconic you can't remove it.
It's the laugh of Lucretia
One of my favorite solos of all time!
I think Lucretia had to be instrumental
Great instrumental!
Yeah no shit
Dave is a phenomenal guitarist Singing is really not what he does well it’s a guitar.
This album is better listened to instrumental only. Fight me
@@ghxul5406 Holy wars is better with vocals, without a doubt though

No doubt. I used to hate this song with Dave's singing. It's a great song without it.......

Michael Roskin
Both solos kick ass.
melody then aggression bro.
Michael Roskin
also, this came out in 1990.
Michael Roskin I don't think it ruins Marty's solo, both are very different from each other.

never realized how much daves voice ruined the music
