A great mathematician with a great sense of humor! Glad to see that he and his wife seem very happy

02:32: ``I was never satisfied with sheaves.'' Nice to hear R. P. Langlands say that. : )

Regarding writing articles in other languages, I definitely want to write a mathematical article in Spanish but am a bit discouraged that if it gets rejected from the journal I have in mind there won't be many other places it can be accepted.

What did he mean when he said " I was never satisfied with Sheaves , I thought that they weren't the correct object for the theory " ?

    • @ramveersingh2591

      sheave is a mathematical object

    • @pursuingstacks

@@ramveersingh2591 Oh I certainly do know what a sheaf is. What I was referring to is that it's not clear why Langlands thinks that sheaves weren't the correct object for the theory.

@@pursuingstacks I'm guessing he means Sheaves are somewhat limited in applications for Langlands. They don't have the generality of an object like a Riemannian Manifold is for Riemannian Geometry. Considering that the Langlands program is incomplete maybe Dr. Langlands is right maybe he's wrong. But from that statement we know he thinks Sheaves aren't the fundamental object.

Geometric langlands program try to use things calles automorphic sheaves instead the usual notion of automorphic form cause canot be attached to complex curves.
