LMFAO! I had a similar thing happen to one of my VMs once. It was a beta version of Windows Me on VirtualBox, more specifically the one whose safe to shutdown screen was a BSOD. For some reason, booting it up from a snapshot would eventually cause my host to BSOD, with VMMR0.R0 being blamed for the crash. I wonder if it could've been the fault of the secondary hard drive that could've been starting to die at the time.
@@sherme i feel like its just because they have an interest in tech but know nothing and the bsod is like some cool evil boo scary other adjective fatal error to them

Last time I tried virtualbox it was hardly a smooth experience. Importing an appliance was just unhelpful error after unhelpful error until it just told me to recompile my kernel and at that point I just used virt-manager. I was even able to use the same appliances from virtualbox with some conversion.
Definitely vmware 17 bug. I used the 16th version for a couple years and had little to no issues with them. But the 17th version is a bit funky... I see the UI randomly stops responding like 50% of the time, the machine randomly goes black screen with no sign of life, and sometimes resetting the machine before windows is loaded results in a "firmware error" that when clicked ok causes the screen to go black and stop the vm from responding (with literally no way to power it off even through the system tray, having to kill vmx process thingy). Some other things being random memory leaks, and one time the screen literally went black screen, 640x480, and hung there for no apparent reason. Yeah the 17th version is one of the funniest software glitches I have seen in a while. Don't know if they fixed it though since I've lost interest in windows and virtual machines like 3 years ago P.S.: must be some poorly tested code handling restoration of RAM state from snapshot based on the stop codes and the error dialog. Bruh
Due to the randomness, it seems like some weird race condition happening. Like the VM state being recovered in a different way each time due to different things I guess loading in in a different order. Or just grossly incompatible guest driver stuff with the virtual hardware causing kernel memory corruption, also with some racey condition. Could even just be the configured virtual hardware got changed somehow so suddenly some driver's just running off the rails trying to interface with something that isn't there anymore. Could be interesting to diagnose, but probably not that interesting/useful if you aren't vmware. :p
I thought the same thing too, we can obviously tell it was probably memory but just waiting for the machine to reboot solved the issue? There was probably just some garbage data stored in pagefile and rebooting probably flushed it out, that's just my guess though.
I'm developing my own blue screen simulator and this video was a gold mine for error variations. Seems like VMware is constantly crashing, but XP x64 is able to catch most of these errors and displays a bluescreen.
