    Session Abstract:
    Coaching is an emerging area for I/O psychologists to pursue as a career or as an activity to augment their work as a consultant. There is a unique skill set and competencies that are associated with coaching, some of which have a theoretical foundation while other aspects have a more practical basis. There are also some defined phases that make up process that are important to establish an effective consulting partnership between coach and client. The session will also consider the EBC specialization in preparing masters and doctoral students as coaches.
    Consulting is a major path for those working in the I/O Psychology field. The setting for consultants can range from working as an internal consultant in a specialized group within a larger organization to working as an independent consultant to smaller companies to even working for a major consulting company. Regardless as the capacity a consultant works in there is a cycle and associated process that is used along with a core set of competencies to develop and best practices to follow. The presentation also reflects on the courses in the masters and doctoral curriculums and available that support developing consultation skills.
