I got a 8 plus new late September 2018. Original battery on mine is still at 90%. You guys at low 80’s or 70’s should consider getting the battery replaced. Apple will replace it for $49. Ordered a iPhone 13 today. I’ll miss the Touch ID.

Even if my battery doesn’t last long I’ll stick with. I hope next generation of iPhones removes the notch.
You know, if the iPhone 8+ could just take decent pictures in the dark, I'd pick it hands down over the 13 Pro Max, every time. And I say that based on overall usability, that notchless screen (in the proper 16:9 aspect ratio!), the feel in hand, and the home button with touch ID, which I STILL prefer over FaceID after having tried both.

I do think Apple needs a bigger mid range phone. Same goes for their Macbook Air. Some people want bigger phones but don’t need the cameras or fancy display features.
The 13 Pro Max is very big, I like it. My Iphone 8 Plus Product Red has 86% battery after 3 years. I would like to upgrade, but, here in Poland, it's not cheap, so I need to wait one year. I turn my videos with the 8 Plus, and it' will be amazing to do it with the 13. Thank you for this video.
i honestly dont get why apple couldnt just put touch id on the power button this year, do they not get annoyed with having to put in their passcodes every time they're wearing their masks
I believe that the iPhone 8 Plus is a great phone in 2021. Yes, it might not be the newest. Yes, it not might be the most premium product. But it has a beloved feature that the 13 Pro does not have; 3D Touch. Also, it has 2 camera lenses, which is a upgrade from a single lenses from the new SE you can get for brand new today. But everyone should be noted that this is not the phone for everyone. Anyone that wants the biggest and most premium phone should not get this phone and rather getting the 13 Pro. Anyone who likes the bezels, the home button, and Touch ID, I would recommend to get the 8 Plus. But since Apple is no longer selling the 8 Plus new, I would recommend to get the iPhone 8 plus refurbished off the official Apple store. Also, I would highly recommend to get the 8 Plus over the iPhone SE because 1. The 8 Plus have a wide-lenses & telephoto lenses, 2. 1080p display instead of a 720p resolution on the SE, 3. Bigger display, And finally, 4. It is cheaper. I hope I helped people to make their decisions to decide weather they should get the 8 Plus or a different phone.
I am thinking of returning the 13 Pro Max and keeping my 8 Plus...the 8 Plus is ergonomically so much better, lighter and the curved sides make it easy to hold. The 13 Pro Max is so HEAVY and the square sides make it slip from my grip. I do miss my touch ID. Even a week later. (I miss touch ID. so much!) The 13 Pro Max camera is much much better, and to me the main reason I wanted the phone. I say the 13 Pro Max is a great "camera", but not great as an actual phone. Too heavy and clunky and not ergonomic. It feels like lugging a camera around and trying to use it as a phone. One other note, the switch to OLED in the 13 Pro Max is making the brightness harder on my eyes for some reason (even after turning the brightness down.) I have had a concussion previously, and occasionally have issues with screens. The 8 Plus doesn't cause me any eye issues with brightness, the 13 Pro Max does. I wanted to love this phone as I love the camera, but the truth is I don't like the phone experience, just the camera. The audio is remarkably better on 13 Pro Max.
You’ve just mentioned everything I’m concerned about, thank you! 1. Sensitive eyes and worried about over bright 13 max OLED screen. 2. The straight sides being harder to hold, currently have to use both hands on my 8+ which works fine now I’m used to it. 3. Weight of 13 Pro max plus case. 4. But would appreciate a better camera and better speakers. 5. Can’t see anyone who has mentioned the mics on the 13 Pro Max. Difficult to decide. Did you keep the 13? Maybe better to hold onto 8+ until the 14?
Hey nick, great review but I have a question. So I have the s10 plus rn and I think the size is perfect. I'm also thinking about upgrading to the iPhone 13 pro max. But I know a lot of people hate the size. If I'm ok w the s10 plus., do u think I'll be fine w the 13 pm?
It would be nice if the iPhones had an on-screen Touch ID, no notch or camera hole, 4K, and add a speaker on the bottom of the display, so when we have the phone in landscape mode we can watch content with two forward-facing speakers for true stereo sound, internal DAC so we can listen to studio-quality audio (24-bit by 192khz). Also, if Apple can center the camera lenses on the back so when taking pictures in portrait or landscape mode our fingers won't get in the way.
I just replaced my 8 plus battery today it’s working well and always been a beast I’ll just wait till upgrade when this phone is probably broken and won’t turn on again 😭
@@thatguy3221 the dimensions are very similar to the 6plus , it’s big enough that one handed operation is difficult/impossible, and it’s also much heavier. I have a personal preference for my mobile to be around this size for the screen area.
I still love my 8+ and Xs max! I’m having withdrawals having to trade in my XS Max😩😩😩 I kind of messed up my 8+ so I wont get any money for it but it still works 😩😩😩
I’ve had the 8+ for 4 years now. Think it’s a great phone. I just ordered my 13 pro max today and was worried I made a mistake. This vid has settled my nerves ahah. Thanks! The main thing I was after was better battery life. Just hoping this size difference isn’t too much to get used to.
Thank you for this comparison video. The iPhone 13 Pro does look amazing, but I still love my 8 Plus. Not sure how I feel about the heavier wider phone, especially since I sometimes put the phone in my pocket. And the 8 plus was big but not too big it didn’t fit in the pocket.
Correction lol, iPhone X came out WITH the iPhone 8 Plus. It was a trio release in 2017. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X being the “Pro” iPhone at the time..
Bro, great video so far. @3:43 - True story - me and the old lady are still rocking our 7 Plus phones. Mine is in an Otter Box which is the toughest case I know. I dropped it one day outdoors and it landed perfectly flat on it's back - on a pebble. Cracked the camera glass. I got it replaced, but it wasn't the same again. I am watching this because we just ordered the 13 Pro Max in 1 TB. I'm friggin' stoked!
I have an IPhone 8 Plus with iOS 14.7 and timed my instagram press with the video. And mine loaded equally as quick as the 13 pro max.. does that mean IOS 15 slows down the 8 plus???
This reminds me of the iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 8 Plus reminds me of the 7 Plus same thing for me I Decision should I get or not and my answer is no I’II go for the iPhone 14 Pro Max since Apple confirmed it
not so environmentally-friendly. People shouldnt upgrade phone year after year just because they can. its really high time that we think of the environment.
Very helpful. I have the 7 Plus and still works like a gem. But if i want to experience the best camera on a phone and better quality pictures, it’s time to upgrade.
IPX7 is a standardised test submerging the item for 30 mins in 1m of water. IPX8 is a test designed by the manufacturer of submergence. IP ratings up to IPX6 do include the ratings below them but, IPX7, 8, 9, 9K do not & would require a rating of IPX6 in addition to any above that (IPX6/IPX7/IPX8 in this case) If it meets the requirements for both then both would be listed however, for a phone, it’s far more beneficial to have IPX6 (jets of water) & IK08+ (impact resistance).
Hey Nick! Greats vids, kudos to you. I was wondering if you will drop that iPhone 13 Pro vs iPhone XS that you mentioned a while ago and if so when. Thanks in advance!
I have the 8 plus and that 13. Gave my 5yr daughter the 8 plus. Well I’m going back to the 8 plus. It’s just better and lighter. Weight is a big factor to me. Apple going backwards
200g vs 240g in weight is huge difference. I am a cyclist and every single gram counts. We pay thousands for weight savings and 40 grams to be is very noticeable in my hands. Plus Touch ID man. Way better!
Im also 82% iph8plus from nov.2019 he is still strong af and ios is not up to date is 14. The money from my country fits perfectly in the case , the home button its really helpful and this phone dont forget guys...is still filming 4K with big FPS. And its waterproof af no cap . In my first mistake , i thought the phone is gone, but after i see on the internet people filming with this 8plus literally in the pool or in the sea... The single "problem" this 8plus is full glass on the back to so if you wear a case it will be ok.
I upgraded to a used XR, but now on Android with all the bells and whistles because it was so cheap (also used). iPhone 13 pro max would be super expensive
It’s really worth the upgrade I have the same exact product red iPhone 8 Plus and I didn’t want to upgrade because the touch ID was amazing but unfortunately my phone started acting up badly and I got the 13 promax And the differences are amazing from the camera to the battery life and everything else I know I’m going to have this phone for about another 3-4 years
@@Samurai31631 yeah, typing your 6-digit code that can be seen is kids very “effective” side effect of owning FaceID only on a Covid-19 world. I hate apple for ignoring TouchID option need nowadays.
I just got an 8 plus coming from a xioami mi 10. It’s my Mums old phone and I LOVE it!! The battery health is on 83% so I’m gonna replace it soon, but for now the battery still easily lasts me all day. The phone is also super fast and I don’t see a difference at all compared with flagship phones which is super impressive seeming it’s age. Definitely keeping it for a long time:)
My wife is thinking of upgrading from the iPhone se2020 to the iPhone 8 because of that little button. I went from iPhone 11 Pro Max to the 13 pro max.
Sort of unfair comparison, but if many still have the 8+ then in a way it´s relevant. I have a three year old 8+ with a brand new battery and a 13 Pro Max is in no way interesting to me. Not because it's not a great phone, but because it's way too expensive and can do a lot of things I do not need (especially when it comes to cameras). My 8+ is old, but it does exactly what I need and it does it well. I see the point of a bigger and sharper screen and a much better battery, but for the price I would say that my 8+ still gives a sensible impression. I'm skipping the 13 series and will definitely buy a 14 Pro/Max when we get this far. Otherwise, as always, you provide solid and competent videos.

Thanks for this, glad I came across it and appreciate your approach and method to the review - not that it helped me decide one way or another! I think it did help me realize I would only be upgrading because I want to, not because I need to. I mean I still have 93% max cap on the battery am most always on WiFi for the time being and I am a basic camera user. I am very much waiting to be able to choose a touch ID option, which may be what has held me back from upgrading each generation. Tried out a friend's old X for a while and hated the face ID.

nah fam dont judge book by cover
I feel like i watched an iPhone 13 pro max ad, Wish this was an unbiased comparison
It is unbiased. I own an 8 plus and a 13 pro. The 13 pro and pro are way better lol
I do think Apple needs a bigger mid range phone. Same goes for their Macbook Air. Some people want bigger phones but don’t need the cameras or fancy display features.
Iphone 14 max is most likely coming this year..”budget” max size phone 😄
your exact wishes have been granted haha
This is the exact upgrade I did and I love it because the 8 plus was acting up badly
i love the 8 plus!! Home button, no notch, and best of all... the only iphone to be offered in matte black 😍😍 name a better iphone!
i love it too mines is just glitchy and battery dies too fast. Upgrading on june 3
Did u replace the battery or do u simply do not us it cuz mine after 3 years is78%
86% after 3 years 😯
@@Hxmza I use it every day, all the time. It's still the same battery
Not worth to upgrade. Wait for the 14 pro max .
Trust me it's worth it.
Its definitely worth it
Not worth to upgrade. You’re joking 🙃.
Then wait for the 14s pro
i honestly dont get why apple couldnt just put touch id on the power button this year, do they not get annoyed with having to put in their passcodes every time they're wearing their masks
my iPhone 8 plus still rocks.. except my batter now drains faster than before.
im a 7 plus user and I ordered the 13 pro max because I heard that it had promotion 120 hertz and a longer battery and its arriving today.
I'm def upgrading. Just reeally need to see the difference iin them.
can you do the Note 20 Ultra 5G vs the 13 Pro Max? I can’t decide if I wanna make the switch but i’m feeling really compelled to do so.
The 13 has no 3D Touch??? Whaaat
@@doodlepoodle81 Yeah, it got removed a while ago on the XR back in 2018.
Maybe better to hold onto 8+ until the 14?
that’s why i’m just sticking with the pro small
I love that Touch ID. We need a ultrasonic sensor in the next iPhone
This is the video I’ve been waiting for 💖 thank you so much for posting !!
Great vid as always nick from the uk 🇬🇧 think it would be a great upgrade from an 8 plus to a 13 pro max a lot has changed since the 8 plus .
Crazy to see how they have an identical form factor!!!
How so
Yes it's like they just removed the bezels
My 8plus is going strong too, 86% battery life! Waiting for 14! Stay safe 🙏🏼
I’m about to let go of my 8 plus due to the charger port and I will miss it so much. I love home button
THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO!! I’m definitely upgrading to the 13 pro
Nick i can agree with you about the qualcomm modems feeling like wifi while using data, no buffers or waiting especially with that 5Guc 😮💨
Also an important thing to consider is 5 year old phones no longer qualify for most upgrade/trade in deals. So you risk losing that next year
Facts!!!! You are better off upgrading between 2-4 years.
You could always sell on Marketplace. Best return on selling your old device.
Go and upgrade already. Perfect size.
Yes you will the S10 Plus is a large phone, this one is heavier and slightly bigger screen but you can adjust no problem 👍🏻
@@nickackermanchannel alright thank u so much
They need to bring back Home Screen rotation on the max. Having that on the plus phones was so nice.
i dont even use it lol
But one nice thing about the iPhone 8 Plus is that it‘s the last model with the iconic old design (except the SE 2020).
time to upgrade from 8+ is now reasonable beside the A15 chip especially the Battery, 120hz screen oled and Camera also
It would be nice if the iPhones had an on-screen Touch ID, no notch or camera hole, 4K, and add a speaker on the bottom of the display, so when we have the phone in landscape mode we can watch content with two forward-facing speakers for true stereo sound, internal DAC so we can listen to studio-quality audio (24-bit by 192khz). Also, if Apple can center the camera lenses on the back so when taking pictures in portrait or landscape mode our fingers won't get in the way.
Yes. All of this! 4K is already there tho
I just replaced my 8 plus battery today it’s working well and always been a beast I’ll just wait till upgrade when this phone is probably broken and won’t turn on again 😭
Went from 6plus to 13pro max, difference is immense, and the battery life is beyond amazing.
I have the 7 Plus now. Waiting for my 13 pro max to come!
How big is it in your hand?
@@thatguy3221 the dimensions are very similar to the 6plus , it’s big enough that one handed operation is difficult/impossible, and it’s also much heavier. I have a personal preference for my mobile to be around this size for the screen area.
I’m still rocking the 8 Plus. Lovin it
I still love my 8+ and Xs max!
How are you adjusting to the screen size
Any updates?
Thank you for this comparison video. The iPhone 13 Pro does look amazing, but I still love my 8 Plus. Not sure how I feel about the heavier wider phone, especially since I sometimes put the phone in my pocket. And the 8 plus was big but not too big it didn’t fit in the pocket.
Correction lol, iPhone X came out WITH the iPhone 8 Plus. It was a trio release in 2017. iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X being the “Pro” iPhone at the time..
Thanks, you’ve thoroughly convinced me to stick with my 8 Plus 😂😂😂
Bro, great video so far. @3:43 - True story - me and the old lady are still rocking our 7 Plus phones. Mine is in an Otter Box which is the toughest case I know. I dropped it one day outdoors and it landed perfectly flat on it's back - on a pebble. Cracked the camera glass. I got it replaced, but it wasn't the same again. I am watching this because we just ordered the 13 Pro Max in 1 TB. I'm friggin' stoked!
Great video!!!
Hey Nick can you do a video on the iPhone 13 vs the iPhone 13 mini that would be interesting to watch.
Is iPhone 13 pro max too big for iPhone 8 plus user?
I have an IPhone 8 Plus with iOS 14.7 and timed my instagram press with the video. And mine loaded equally as quick as the 13 pro max.. does that mean IOS 15 slows down the 8 plus???
Yes they did. I went back to ios 14 and it's fast again.
Nah, I'll keep my 8 plus baby one more year... 💪
thanks for the comparaison !
You are welcome :)
awesome review, thanks! to change 8+ for 14 pro max would be great but I will be missing home button…
Hold on another year and wait for usb c
This reminds me of the iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 8 Plus reminds me of the 7 Plus same thing for me I Decision should I get or not and my answer is no I’II go for the iPhone 14 Pro Max since Apple confirmed it

I still have the iPhone 12 Pro Max thank you for all the help with the love and I hope 🤞 and
I came from 12PM to 13PM. No regrets whatsoever. Couldn’t be happier. Enough said.
Yeah that upgrade is far more minor than this one and still felt
not so environmentally-friendly. People shouldnt upgrade phone year after year just because they can. its really high time that we think of the environment.
iphone 13 pro variants this year is definitely worth the upgrade if you have even the 12 pro variants
@@akak8299 true, but he could have given it away to someone he knows
@@WataDraggon No he just give his old Iphone to apple to get it cheaper
Still rocking the 8 plus but I am planning to get an iPhone 12 on november next month.
I have a iPhone 8 Plus but don’t know if I gonna be happy with the 14 pro max or just get the pro 😭
5:29 swiped 3 times to scroll, thats the issue
Very helpful. I have the 7 Plus and still works like a gem. But if i want to experience the best camera on a phone and better quality pictures, it’s time to upgrade.
currently on an 8+ right now. should i go for 13 pro or 14 pro?
IPX7 is a standardised test submerging the item for 30 mins in 1m of water. IPX8 is a test designed by the manufacturer of submergence. IP ratings up to IPX6 do include the ratings below them but, IPX7, 8, 9, 9K do not & would require a rating of IPX6 in addition to any above that (IPX6/IPX7/IPX8 in this case)
If it meets the requirements for both then both would be listed however, for a phone, it’s far more beneficial to have IPX6 (jets of water) & IK08+ (impact resistance).
I am mainly upgrading for more storage. I’m hoping 1TB will get me through like five years. My 256gb is full!!
It should get you thru. Crazy how the new phones offer 4x the space...
I prefer the smaller cameras in the older models.
Hey Nick! Greats vids, kudos to you. I was wondering if you will drop that iPhone 13 Pro vs iPhone XS that you mentioned a while ago and if so when. Thanks in advance!
Watching this on my I phone 8 still love this but I’m upgrading to i phone 12 at Christmas can’t wait
Upgrading only if it has Touch ID.
Face ID is better than touch ID
@@superninja2022 nope.
@@thetruth5460 touch id is overrated tbh
im still using my 6s+ and i really want to wait until touch id returns but really don't know if I can wait anymore😭
I upgraded to a used XR, but now on Android with all the bells and whistles because it was so cheap (also used).
iPhone 13 pro max would be super expensive
Thank you for the video, watching on an 8+ and thinking of going for the 13 pro max.
It’s really worth the upgrade I have the same exact product red iPhone 8 Plus and I didn’t want to upgrade because the touch ID was amazing but unfortunately my phone started acting up badly and I got the 13 promax And the differences are amazing from the camera to the battery life and everything else I know I’m going to have this phone for about another 3-4 years
The best about 8 plus is still using touch id; face id is cumbersome for nowadays pandemic situation.
You can still unlock it via passcode. Takes like 3 seconds.
Finally upgraded my 8plus for an iPhone 13 mini, love it
@@suprxmefire9497 i have the 11 pro since the release. its a fantastic phone. but i feel like you should upgrade to 13 series if u have the budgey
Yes time to upgrade is now reasonable beside the A15 chip especially the Battery, 120hz screen oled and Camera also
Lol, and have *almost* same screen size. The old form factors were terrible even for the time.
Thankfully the iPhone X came along
How is it unfair? Top of the line 2017 vs top of the line 2021
@@HearMeLearn because 2017's top of the line is iPhone X
It was strange time at 2017 when Apple release iPhone 8 Plus along with iPhone X (Touch ID vs Face ID)
@@taiminsen8069 yes and no. It was only top of the line in design. Functionally they’re the same phone
Im gonna get a battery replacement for my 8 plus i dont really care for the 13 series and the 8 plus is heavy like the pro max
How can you compare I phone 8+ to a iphone 13 pro max
The 8 plus has Qualcomm MDM9655 Snapdragon X16LTE modem and Qualcomm WTR5975 Transceivers. Reception on the iPhone 8 series was stellar. Only the iPhone 11 series had intel communication chipsets
Nice review! I’ll stick with my 8+ for now^^
I keep my iPhones in their otter box at all times , so the surface feel is not a point to me .
uhm, what’s the issue with it starting at 64gb??? it’s not like the 8 plus doesn’t come in 128 and 256gb capacity, it’s like you’re nitpicking at the most ridiculous things in an attempt to upsell the 13 pro
My 8 plus screen cracked 2 times the 1st time since I have an otter box cover I was still able to use it with no problems or distraction then the 2nd time I laid on it in the back yard it cracked even more but also it was spazzing something awful calling numbers switching pages so I thought there was no hope for this one I had gone to a couple providers but no 13max plus were in stock so thought I’d try one more thing that I had tried the 1st time it cracked I went to a place that fixes phones and computers had the front glass fixed and have been once again satisfied with my 8 plus / because of some other issues I was told I might not be able to retrieve all my numbers pick and texts of this phone so luckily I don’t have to give up that or spend money on the new phone just yet !
