Hey Dan! If you want a tip for removing spot welds on body panels, try a hand held belt sander! Way easier to avoid drilling through the bottom panels! Love the resto content man!
Great video! One tremendously helpful tool for separating the panels with minimal damage to the kept layer is a pneumatic hammer with a chisel bit. Keep up the hard work!
Dude one of my favorite things about dan is i can relate to him so much. And its so dope seein dan pop up in other youtubers comment sections showing support and its the coolest shit to me idk why but props to big dan 🤙🏼💯
Glad to see the car again Dan, Glad to see this massive project hasn't got you down. Nothing but love and respect Dan. Looking forward to future videos.
I can not tell you how happy it makes me seeing you tackle the Camaro! I fuckin love the 2nd gens so from the day you got it, I was excited to see the content with this car. Still makes me mad that you're having to go to these lengths to get it in tip top shape, but I'm loving the videos on it none the less. I can't wait to see this beast back on the road but I know it's gonna be a long process. Just keep chipin away and it'll be done in no time.
They do Infact make a special bit for drilling out spot welds. However, they are pretty pricy from what I remember. I could be wrong, been a while since I did body work. Handheld belt sander was always my go to. Awesome tool👌🏼
Its beautiful seeing you doing this kinda work yo , I do this pretty often as an apprentice at a body shop ,moreso radiator supports and patch panels but similar principles, air hammer with a chisel bit , finger belt sander or seam drill bits and a seam buster are definitely good tools to tackle that kind of work , glad to see your projects getting further along 🤟
Happy to see you pushing forward with this build. I know it was more of a job than originally anticipated however being from the Midwest these are things we’ve gotta deal with on any project vehicle we tackle. The Camaro has a lot of potential and I think it’s in good hands. #justwork
Man this car was one of the best things I've ever seen any RUclipsr get ever. So happy to see you back at it. Whenever it gets done it gets done, just enjoy the process :) Can't wait to see it all.
For popping spot welds drill em like you have done, try to keep the hole through the panel you are replacing then lay that old panel on top of your new and mark the holes. Use a 6 and 1 style painters knife to really get at separating. Another tip, take a piece of copper, I use a piece of flattened plumbing pipe, to use as a backing blown through spot welds whennyou mig everything back together. The copper heat sinks excess heat from the sheet metal, less warp, and it won't stick to the filler metal from the mig.
I can't wait to see where this build goes. I dont know how commited you are to the roll cage idea, but I think its a great idea, worst case scenario it add's to the structural integrity. Great video as usual.
Hey Dan! Bought a 79 camaro base model to rebuild after watching your content. Drove it 3 times after buying it to work and 3rd time my harness went out. Shes sat for a little bit but soon enough shell be running again! Thanks for the dickhead inspiration!
Go get the spot weld and flange air tool from harbor freight! It automatically punches holes for you so you don’t need to sit there with a drill bit. I’m going through this with the cab corners on my OBS ford.
Love it , my first car was a 77 Camaro , always been a F body fan . I would love to get a 72 some day , because that's the year I was born and the front bumper on those are the best looking as well .
Get a spot weld drill bit or use the small belt sanders to remove the spot welds. Also see about getting the air punch that will punch holes for a spot welds so you don't have to drill each hole and worry about warping the metal.
Get a spot-weld drillbit or belt-sander. Chisel + hammer to separate, dress the metal + weld-thru primer before welding, both sides. Good luck in the build.
Great video Dan. If you've got more spot welds to drill in future, try a spot weld cutter. I used one in a video I just released the other day if you wanted to get an idea of what they do. They do a good job of preserving the panel below. Also, a long/flat sharp paint scraper works well to split the panels. The screw driver and pry bars bend steel which you probably noticed. Good job man. Keen to see more. 😎👌
Dan you better take this car to the grave with you! If you sell it, you’ll be selling a one of a kind of car you know every inch of. I proud of you for DOING WORK SON! Keep it up
Danny Boi, I'm going to say with nothing but love. Clean your work space after every shift. 10-15 minutes. Make it part of the task. You want quality work, have a quality work space. If you have a hard time cleaning, engineer ways to make it easy for you. Build some shelves For the wood storage and metal storage. Stop leaning stuff on the walls. Make a space for it. Trash cans, Make a space for them. All the cords, Make a space. Pay an organizer. They're like $300 for a day. Nothing but love. Cool vid
Get with Tye Braun and I bet he could show you a few things. Cleetus should let him loose to help ya with the metal work and roll cage. Proud of you for tackling this blind. I sure as hell wouldn’t have. This is why I watch your channel 👍🏻
Yoooooooooo i forgot about this dude for the longest time. Back when you had the sharpie bike (still my favorite look on a bike ever) good to see you doing well Dan
i recommend getting a seam buster. they're great at separating panels without damaging the panels you're keeping on the car. a lot better than using a prybar
I've seen some absolutely shagged cars come back from the dead. If the Holey Goat can live again, then this car will also live again. You got this one buddy.
Glad to see you doing fab work again bro! Can't wait to see the Camaro finished. Just take your time. Be patient, and it'll come together for you! Keep up the fantastic content, Dan!
I still remember when the car was fully put together it was the first video I had ever seen of yours and you was doing it at your house then finally got your own shop and now I’m just hanging on for the day that car leaves the garage under its own power I understand why you haven’t finished it cause you said before you didn’t wanna rush it an get burnt out on it but I’m so ready to see it done
@dan are you talking with 396maro about those tail lights? I’m going to put angel eyes into some C3 Vette lights for my ‘73. I experimented with “smoking” the OG lenses yesterday. Melted them in the dye bath. If anyone tried that, don’t go more than 2 minutes for our cars’ lenses 😂
22 thousand views and only 2k likes..... come on guys let's help Dan get those views and likes up we all know it helps and we all know he doesn't ask for anything. Your content has always been very entertaining buddy hope you're healthy and happy
man ive been wanting you to get back on projects man! u got the tools, u got the space, u got the parts and the smarts! get to we like we know you can! . ps FIX THE DANG MAGNA ALREADY.
Hey Dan, love your vids and your older vids too but goddamn I miss your ZX10R, I remember you said you were lookin into gettin a 1000(correct me if im wrong) again and I highly recommend you gettin a 2016 zx10r. Loved seein the speedo of it on your older vids. Love the gixxer too. Much love man
Be careful man the radiator supports from any of the manufacturers is usually off. Mine I had to fix two holes. one was off 1/2 one was 5/8 off. I have seen height issues due to the way front pads are installed.
One thing I've learned from Dan from years of watching it's okay to try something without being an expert. Do shit and you learn. Thanks Dan!
Dan's not an expert? Shit.
@@Mike_and_Life Right im confused I thought I was learning from an Expert.. Shit im screwed
@@Unknown-w6b8n I think my garage is on fire....
😂🤣😂@@Mike_and_Life
Dan remember to pull the VIN tag off the old part and all the other riveted information plates that were on the original panel.
Hey Dan! If you want a tip for removing spot welds on body panels, try a hand held belt sander! Way easier to avoid drilling through the bottom panels! Love the resto content man!
This and putty knives and a hammer are good at getting under the skin and separate the layers.
The gritty worly finger
literally my thought, or just an angle grinder and grind off the whole edge
Great video! One tremendously helpful tool for separating the panels with minimal damage to the kept layer is a pneumatic hammer with a chisel bit. Keep up the hard work!

Make sure to tac weld some X bracing inside the car before you cut out that a Pilar section

My favorit bit in every video is the "Can I predict the mic stand"

Get with Tye Braun and I bet he could show you a few things. Cleetus should let him loose to help ya with the metal work and roll cage. Proud of you for tackling this blind. I sure as hell wouldn’t have. This is why I watch your channel 👍🏻
Was gonna say to make sure to use weld through primer, but I see you already know about it! This car will turn out great, I believe in you!
I cannot wait to see this all finished up and I'm restoring a car myself which is a lot of fun so can't wait to see it back on the road
Whenever Dan wears the overalls you know we gettin work done
Yoooooooooo i forgot about this dude for the longest time. Back when you had the sharpie bike (still my favorite look on a bike ever) good to see you doing well Dan

i recommend getting a seam buster. they're great at separating panels without damaging the panels you're keeping on the car. a lot better than using a prybar
Damn we here right away today! Wassup Dan! Always like getting off work and watching a video! Been watching since 2014ish. 10 years of Dan!
Blue Collar Kyle is a good channel to watch to learn body work techniques!
I bet he goes live after posting this
Never fails lol
Watch the last 6 episodes of Prizza Mikes Gloria build. You'll pick up a lot about gap alignment and panel welding. He's really good.
i abseloutely have ZERO clue what this man is talking about but i love it
Dan's camaro has turned into a tutorial of sorts for my 78 trans am so much rust everywhere
This is gonna be an awesome outcome one day. JUST DO IT DAN💪
Make some shelves with the wood that you have on the wall. So you can store some things , It gives you more space in the garage
Hell yeah dude I'm stoked to see you working on the camaro
Oh BILLY! Daddy Danny is back with another aneurysm
I've seen some absolutely shagged cars come back from the dead. If the Holey Goat can live again, then this car will also live again. You got this one buddy.
Spot weld drill bit, its made to literally drill out spot welds. Im on a 10 year old restomod project learning shit from scratch the hard way too man.
Glad to see you doing fab work again bro! Can't wait to see the Camaro finished.
Just take your time. Be patient, and it'll come together for you!
Keep up the fantastic content, Dan!
You have a tube bender lined up? Dont you already have one? Got rid of it? Either way I look forwards to seeing this restoration.
Ya. I have been waiting for this video 🎉. I owned a 77' Camaro. Sold it a few years back.
Great work brother, we're proud of you, keep it up! 😎
do it with Daniel blessing us with another RUclips video
You should live stream working on the camaro!

Milwaukee makes a finger belt sander, makes spot welds a breeze, but they also make.bits specifically for spot welds

Free mustache rides from Dan
Can't believe I'm still watching from Scotland since he had his orange and silver Honda, I'm sure it was a fireblade 🤣
Use steel it for the paint in those areas you are going to cover works a lot better than weld through primer
Man I’m sure that was a daunting task to get done. Little wins like this make the rebuild worth it!!
Great video Dan . Next camaro video in 3 months right ?
2:56 I wasn't but now I'm going to rewind and stare twice as hard
I respect the fuck out of Dan cause most people wouldn’t even try something like this keep up the good work man
Keep it up man! Have been long time waiting for this but with every you got going i can wait :) exciting to see you work on the Dancam again!
could get a Spot weld drill bit
makes your life alot easier
but get a good quality one
and maybe 3-4 of em just in case u need more
Heck yeah a camaro vid love these videos as well as the garage ones but manoy the camaro
Hey, dumb question, wasn’t the vin on the old panel?
Might be a dumb suggestion, but you could reach out to the goonzquad guys and ask for tips. They do a lot of panel replacements.
I hope that there’s a color option called sloppy seconds where it’s just an amalgamation of all the powder coat you cleaned off the floor
I’d like to see you try making a hidden cage or at least as hidden as possible
Hyped to see more episodes on this, don't get this type of content from anyone else on RUclips really.
I have a 74 Camaro with a Ls1 and T56 transmission, so if you need pics of anything specific lmk!
Still a huge influence for me to try stuff I normally wouldn’t… It’s just work.
just remember to grab the VIN and any other ID tags off the old panel before it gets in your way to much and you toss it in the dumpster
You should reach out to Kalvin Malli if you have questions about this stuff! He's been restoring his GTR with the same rust issues
There's spot weld drill bits, and spot weld chisels
needa invest in a hand belt sander, good for the spot welds ect
Hey they have an actual spot weld removal bit that will help a lot more
Yes, there is a special bit for cutting spot welds.
Haven't seen Jax in ages man!
Do it with Dan use some of that empty space for intercooler piping
Yes! Camaro Video!
1:27 dan dan dan 😩😏
2:56 how did you know lmao
Didnt you use a special pinch weld bit with that body guy doing the clip on your cab?
Imagine a Dan and Vtuned collab
Diiinnnnguussss! Wasssaaaahhhp! You're doing a great job man! Much love
What type of ls motor are you putting in it????
Hey Danny boi, just checking in on you see how your brain is doing nowadays. Hope you and Laura and the pups are doing good
YES. GIVE US MOAR CAMARO
URGH

Hi welcome to Dans custom body shop. No steve it isnt a Ryobi 5/8" wood bit im using for spot welds, shut up and wash my corvette.
Be careful man the radiator supports from any of the manufacturers is usually off. Mine I had to fix two holes. one was off 1/2 one was 5/8 off. I have seen height issues due to the way front pads are installed.
