  • How to replace the battery on your car. In this video I show how to replace the battery on a Ford Fiesta Mk7 1.4 TDCi. I have not added any commentary to this video as it is hopefully self explanatory. Leave the car at least 5 minutes after switching off the ignition and make sure you have your radio code if applicable (not necessary on the Mk7 Fiesta) before disconnecting the battery. Always disconnect the negative first and refit it last.
I used a Varta E38 which has a higher Ah than the standard battery (74Ah v 60Ah) and higher Cold Cranking Amps (750CCA v 590CCA). Other alternatives are Bosch S5 075 (B13) which has a similar spec to the original battery (61Ah and 600CCA).
Here are some links for each battery and other stuff you may need for the job:

    Bosch S5: amzn.to/1xQiBNu
    Grease: amzn.to/15zw2JV

Excellent, thank you for posting this excellent video. I replaced the original battery in my Ford Fiesta Mk7 1.4 TDCi after six years (nothing obviously wrong with it) with a higher performance 'Yuasa 5000 YBX5075 12V 60Ah 620A Silver High' which works perfectly though it is 242mm not 278mm long. It cost £59.00 on eBay with free delivery next day.

Thanks for the video, you know the weight of the Ford Battery? I read something about 14Kg and Varta as 17Kg, the 3Kg dont make any diference at motor mounts or something like that?

Hi mate, my reversing sensors stopped working on my fiesta diesel zetek, all fuses ok, must be a relay yes? How do I find the one and how do I replace it?

Hi GP. What is serial number of the replacement battery. All the aftermarket batteries I've seen are too short for battery tray! Thanks.

Great video! I see you fitted a Varta E38 Silver. I was thinking to buy the same one. Does it have yellow plugs that need to be pulled out. I read about transform plugs amd batteries needing ventilation or battery could explode. So do you just pull the yellow plugs out and fit?

See you did not put a Ford battery back in, anyone know if I need a radio code on a 2009 with blue tooth, thanks.

+youbold4 Decided to fit a more powerful battery than the original Ford one. See the full description for details. You shouldn't need the radio code on a Mk7 (2008 onwards).

+teecee90 Thanks for the very fast reply, yes just replaced mine with the ford one because I am stupid like that, why do think you needed more than the 590CCA? Friend at work has a 2009 without the Bluetooth and that requires a code, could the Bluetooth ones be coded to the cars ECU? Rang Ford and they do not have a clue!
Thanks for the video, by the way.

I've changed a battery before, wanted to lookup this model to see if I was doing it correctly for the type of car that it is and when I tried to connect positive first and then negative I would receive a shock from the negative terminal which didn't stop until I removed the positive and then connected the negative first then wants the negative was connected I had no trouble connecting the positive got everything together everything works fine I've changed multiple cars like this whenever I have attempted to do positive first I received the shock not touching metal just like how everybody showing me which didn't stop until I removed the positive and then connected the negative first then once the negative was connected I had no trouble connecting the positive got everything together everything works fine I've changed multiple cars like this whenever I have attempted to do positive first I have received a shock anybody else know what the f*** is going on cuz every video and form I've seen is contradicting my statement
