Sometimes I sit down and listen to this. In peace. I listen to every word and it slowly takes over my mind and body. And I think about all the what ifs in my life. My last what if is what if I were gone. And then I think about my daughter. I never want her to feel like how I feel. I don’t want her to feel the pain that I sometimes do.
For me, this is THE RHCP song. It proudly showcases the entire band and has such a timeless groove it could appear on ANY of their albums and dominate. Such a gem.
This song alone will classify them as legends. This is their signature sound, vibe, groove, melody, etc. RHCP best song! Yes they have even better songs in musical value, but in personal connection, this one is the closest and deepest to me, it feels like these 4 musicians are giving me a group hug, best feeling when im at my worse state of mind😌😭😌😌❤️❤️❤️❤️.
It has a sound similar to Californiacation. Before john getting sober.. imagine if One Hot Minute to he ad John Frusciante was on it would be unbelievable
Well... A ton of older people who are in there 50 and 60s now really love this group and they are more known for all types of other songs. This happens to be my favorite and is in my opinion the (prettiest/best) bass line ever. For instance Scar Tissue is a song with all of those attributes as well
This song heals. The next time you're feeling emotional distress, listen to this song and sing along. Music is medicine, and this song is prescription strength.
The messages they conveyed through their lyrics, music and videos is incredible. It's one of those songs that you hear when you're younger, but fully understand once you get older.
My husband struggled with mental health and addiction and he lost his battle 6-25-2023 before he passed he kept listening to this song and sending it to his friends and family…the day of his service we played this song and it was almost like the room finally understood what he was trying to say. RIP DMB 💔2gether4eva
I'm so sorry. I struggle with mental health issues and listening to this song helps a little. I may never find my peace of mind, but it gives me brief moments of respite. Take care of yourself.
At the time between this song and under the bridge I thought the chili's were woosing out... but I enjoy both songs now. But teenage me wanted the heavier funk rock back then.
That "YEAH" right before the solo is the most cathartic, soul cleansing, inner self shocking sound/cry I've heard in my entire life. Oddly serene, raw, yet devastating. It breaks me down, tears me apart and brings me to tears every time. Just riveting.
I’m a black man from the south side of Chicago. I remember when my parents moved us out of the city when I was 12 years old, this was the first rock band I heard when we moved to the suburbs. Been listening to them ever since.
Growing up my brother and his friends would listen to this music and I hated it but I heard nutshell by alice in chains few years ago and that's all it took for me

He loved RHCP so much and saw them at Hyde Park with John many many years ago (without me) and we saw them together with John at the Emirates Grounds, Manchester together and it was magical. Same bro! I was looking for something different from what im used to listening to a few months back and discovered how good Stadium Arcadium was ever since I've been in a RHCP binge to include buying the book Scar Tissue and I couldn't put the book down!
“The” song that never fails to uplift me and appreciate life. Whatever anyone is going through, breath and appreciate yourself. Life is about living not dying.
Ohh the 90's.....when MTV still played awesome creative videos and alternative music reigned supreme...those were the days!!! last period of time with original music and sound imo
+SWWonders I personally think there's more good music being made right now than ever! Of course it CAN'T be totally innovative in the same way caused by certain social explosions that were going on all the hell all over the place in certain times -people like the Beatles & Jimi Hendrix were great musicians and they stayed OPEN to change, but: it was pretty much accidental - and LUCKY - that they wandered into about four or five HUGE social upheavals, and they were good enough to plug into them. It really IS about recommendations, and digging through a whole lot of hay to get to the needle, IYKWIM.
LetThereBeLoud That's where I'd disagree, at least for know. It seems to me that there are still a few creaky old execs at the big record companies who're still waiting for "the good old days" to come back, and they think they can HELP that by fucking with all the people who are maneuvering OUTSIDE of their rules. You look at somebody like Joe Bonamassa, who couldn't care LESS about a "big record contract" but he's doing O.K. Because he won't sit, fetch and heel on command, it's VERY unlikely he'll place any songs into big Hollywood movies, win too many Grammys (no matter how LITTLE competition in the Blues category!) Even IF and WHEN the big companies realize they're just going to die if they don't pick up independent artists, they HATE not being in charge. Axl Rose must've been laughing his ass off at 'em.
I was in my first year of recovery from substance abuse when this song first came out. It felt as if Anthony had crawled inside my head and taken a look around. It became a theme song for my recovery (as I was sure of at the time, it was written during a period when Anthony was also in early recovery; evidently his plane had to bounce a few times before it landed). My own band had broken up not long before and I didn't know if I'd ever have another (I did!). 33 years later I haven't gotten loaded, a day at a time. Since I'm the same age as the boys in the band, that's half my life. And I owe it in part to Anthony showing his soul at that time. The song was a comfort to me when I really needed it.
This song has always "spoken" to me. Incredible musically, but have never followed the band so closely that I know their "ills" I know mine, and I appreciate what their music stirs in me.
My special needs child loves this song. He can’t talk or say a word. He is 11 but with this song he finds ways to communicate he wants it. He will not get out of the car before school until after I play this song. Today he was sitting and waiting for it and when it came on he started fist pumping. It’s awesome what RHCP’s music has done to help my child. I wonder if he understands the words and he can relate.
Black Summer came out and I had to go back through the catalogue... these guys have literally followed me from childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood. Watching this band grow from their inception has been a wonder. Truly the one of the few bands that has a song dedicated to a range of events that have occurred in my life. From happy to sad to everything in between. The soundtrack of my life is incomplete without them! lol
Literally the first band I remember hearing at 6 years old when I sat and listened to Under the Bridge and subsequently all of Blood Sugar Sex Magik for the first time. To this day I’ve never forgotten that moment . And like you said they’ve been with me at every stage of my journey through life ever since-some of the most awful and joyous times. Such a blessing that they’re still making beautiful music.
Watching this and listening at 1:58 AM on Saturday Jan 11 25. Live TV broadcast from LA. Those lyrics take on an even deeper meaning if that was even possible… tearing up. Sending all my love to all California communities
Wow I'm listening to this for the first time since I was 18. I had become homeless & addicted to opiates I didn't know if I had a future or what to do. My family & I had to come together and all get sober. I remember listening to this one of the last times I did drugs & now listening to it makes me realize everything is going to be okay. I'm 23 and have a great career in the healthcare field & 4 years sober. No matter how shitty things are right now, it will always change. Idk if anyone will even see this but don't give up Edit:wow thank you for all the comments. Don't give up!! We're in this together ❤️
I was 12 when this song came out...my life was a horrific mess because of the adults around me...I became an addict later on in life and have been sober 15 years...it’s a struggle but the reward is so sweet ❤️ you keep moving forward and make those difficult but necessary decisions to keep yourself sober❤️
I used a lot of drugs. my home was any bridge in the city. But thanks to my good music and the desire I have to live life. I am enjoying this planet to the fullest. Greetings from Guadalajara Mexico let's move on, nothing behind.
@@krystle9508 it's so nice to hear that it's been 15 years! Good job! Sometimes I feel like it's the first day all over again but everyday sober is a better day than before. Thank you for sharing your story and best wishes for the future
@@neurosis1100 I'm glad you're sober and living life to the fullest. Best wishes from midwest America & hope for better days when this pandemic ends. Be safe
sometimes i wish i could go back to 93. i remember seeing this video in regular rotation on MTV, along with all the other awesome tunes of that time. Life was less stressful before the internet, cell phones, social media. this song reminds me of those peaceful, simpler times. also RIP Chris Farley.
Ikr i wasnt apart of that time but my dad has told me stories about when he was young and i wish i could have been apart of that time, great music, no social media, not a care in the world.
Absolutely. I miss those days when you had to be patient and wait for someone to come home and listen to your message before they got back to you. And I miss the days before insane people ruled with a mob mentality and everyone was always a target for any reason at any time.
This was my first girlfriends favorite song, she always felt so close to the line “I’ve got a bad disease, up from my brain is where I bleed” I never understood the relevance. She passed away from ALS in 2020 and now I understand more than ever. Rip Beverly
Whenever I deal with depression or really shitty anxiety, this song puts me in a significantly better mood. The lyrics feel like everything I’m thinking. But the song sounds so laid back. It makes me feel like everything will be alright, and for a moment, I really believe I’ll reach that peace of mind some day.
I dedicate this song to my best friend and his sister who died last month 2 days apart in the same road, he was a huge RHCP fan and could sing the part at 3:40 so well he sounded like Anthony Kiedis..yesterday we put this song and did their celebration of life then we walked with a bunch of balloons to the road where they got hit to release them and we all just looked like a bunch of clowns screaming in the air, it was beautiful....Rest In Peace Brother, Matthew Jones & Mardelle Jones.🙏🕯
Is it just me or every time a song by the RHCP automatically puts you is a certain type of good nostalgic mood.. they are amazing and relevant and no matter how old or new the song is so many can relate to them. True artists.
I love this song 🎵 ❤️ it helps anyone who is battling drug addiction or mental health issues. This song will help you find the strength and courage you need to pull yourself out of what you are dealing with. Music helps you find your peace of mind. We all need that. Ty Anthony and the Red Hot Chili Peppers 🌶 for your deep and healing and inspirational music. You really know how to reach the people who are hurting, God Bless You all. Music is truly healing therapy. 💕
When I first heard this at 7 years old it was instantly my favorite RHCP song. 32 years later at almost 39 years old it remains my favorite. Timeless song and nostalgic video. Miss the 90's.
Such a unique connection to this song. It makes be think about accepting and loving yourself despite feeling impossibly alone unable to connect with anyone.
Imagine worldwide gathering of people who love and found rhcp song have deep meaning for their life, through life struggle, pain and loss, and life test. This song is precious .
This song is my soul right here and it makes me feel that emotions that I never thought possible are indeed possible. Love this band. Love you guys. Unlimited love!
I’ve struggled with depression since I was too young to even understand, but I really felt this song growing up. Tried so many different ways of handling my “bad disease” some more self destructive than others. I’m microdosing now and feel like “today love is smiling on me”. I don’t know if it will help to finally chase my demons away or this is just the rollercoaster I will always have to ride, and do my best to figure out. One day I will find peace of mind so I can be more open to love. Wishing peace love health hope for all on this journey. ❤️
One of my all time favorites… I always play this song to calm me down a bit when my mind travels into that damned dark place I frequent periodically… god bless you guys
This song is like a time machine, every time i hear it I'm taken back to the early/mid 90's, riding my bike around in the summer. What an amazing song.
demondescent 'lesser' individuals who enjoyed the bass more would take that personally, greater individuals will prefer any part that catches their attention
better than a therapy session. Maybe the best song of RHCP! I really love this music That bass line. Best Chili Peppers song ever. Favourite Peppers-Song. Flea rocks the bass!
It's one of my favorite RHCP songs and always moves me to tears when I hear. Also, I love this iconic photo of these 2. Love the roller coaster ride they've given. Such an amazing band.
All the above are almost correct. Fire, beer, and the thoughts of the friends who used to sing their drunken hearts out. Still hear the voices, and still sing my drunken heart out.
Ya too bad my friends don't like rhcp because they are idiots and rather listen to garbage. Not many people appreciate rhcp like they should. Only the people that understand music care for them. There is reason u rarely see bands covering them. It's because they are outstanding musicians and it's hard as fuck to cover.
This is funny, because Mother's Milk came out in 1989. So if you're in your mid 60s you would have been in your 30s which would have been a perfectly reasonable age to listen to RHCP during their prime in the 90s.
met a trainhopper who was recovering n sed he met John at a random NA meeting in SoCal sumwhere n that john said " i wish i could love myself" lol ...i dont think the guys lying but i wonder if john would go to a twelvestep meeting i dont see it lol in anycase this song wouldnt exist w out heroin,i spose, so thats good..... but suffering from physical addiction is not. im a year sober n theres light at the end of the tunnel i promise . stayup
My only grandpa died today and I have this song on repeat thinking about my childhood with him the good and the bad I feel like a piece of me broke off 💔 R.I.P. Grandpa I will always be loved and missed
Starting to become one of my top 5 bands - didn't appreciate them at first blush (shows ya what I know about music) but now, I cant get enough of them. Spectacular music to say the least.
This song helped me with my battle with the bottle. It smoothed the soul. PTSD is for real. The price of freedom isn't free. To my service brother and sisters. Fight the good fight 💪
Hands down the greatest song they have ever made!!! The riffs, base lines, drums, lyrics, video and presentation are so on point its ridiculous. Much love and kudos from Muskegon Michigan to these legends.
This song described perfectly how sad I felt sometimes. And the feeling that you need some time alone with yourself just to continue. But like the songs states you will be back restored and fresh ☺️
sn pc cheer up buddy. I literally have a disease in which my brain bleeds from. I somehow contracted a 3rd world disease here, in a 1st world country. Stanford. 3 emergency brain surgeries. 8 months in hospital. Still have only 3% chance of living. Be happy! Things could be much much worse! And hug your loved ones! You never know when you might not be able to...
Sean Fitzgerald your both wrong its a lost song on blood suger sex magic on 1991 you can see him John record it in the studio from the funky monks video from that same year and released in 1993 in the cone heads movie soundtrack.
Powerful song-- after allowing myself to get my soul squeezed out of me for 15+ years, I finally woke up-- thank you God-- 3 years clean today and it's still one day at a time---
Wow, you're not kidding! Gonna tattoo on this on my arm so I'll always have these cherished words with me. I didn't know Anthony had these kinds of deep thoughts within him.
@@AndreaFauche lol I dont think he was critizicing the lyrics, he was just trying to be funny. By the way Ive heard those lyrics were unintentionally put there. You know how artists usually get the melody out there first and then fill it up with lyrics, thats what Anthony was doing first filling it up with random words but in the end they decide it to put it in the song.
I agree u can be driving down the road and on verge of tears, and this sing popping on out of the blue can change my attitude for the rest of the day. Takes me to a great place

Im around your age as well and going through it now, this song is helping as we speak. Thank you my friend
I'm guessing life is challenging for you sometimes-know that U R one of the greatest humans currently living ...
This comment got me so much, I'm thankful to you for sharing this with us :') long live to the rhcp, love this song!!!!
I hope they read you
Thank you all so much!
Lies shut up
Black Summer came out and I had to go back through the catalogue... these guys have literally followed me from childhood, to adolescence, to adulthood. Watching this band grow from their inception has been a wonder. Truly the one of the few bands that has a song dedicated to a range of events that have occurred in my life. From happy to sad to everything in between. The soundtrack of my life is incomplete without them! lol
I love your comment so much I had to let you know with a comment! 💕
Me too 😊
My daughter has me listening to Dark Necessities and I love it ♥️♥️🥰
@@ktbaby5237 thanks so much💕 ☺️
This song is one of most beautifully written song that I've heard.
Couldn't agree more, John's guitar on this is so good! One of my all time favourites❤🎶
Amazing and I’ve never heard this song till now.
If Anthony keidis writes their songs he's a genius
@@ChrisGreen-we4mu yes he does

Watching this and listening at 1:58 AM on Saturday Jan 11 25. Live TV broadcast from LA. Those lyrics take on an even deeper meaning if that was even possible… tearing up. Sending all my love to all California communities
These guys are timeless. They have a ton of Soul and to be honest, their music will never get old. Our grandkids kids will rock out to this.
The Bass in this song hits like a punch to the soul and just reverberates through you.
Flea is just so talented
Wow I'm listening to this for the first time since I was 18. I had become homeless & addicted to opiates I didn't know if I had a future or what to do. My family & I had to come together and all get sober. I remember listening to this one of the last times I did drugs & now listening to it makes me realize everything is going to be okay. I'm 23 and have a great career in the healthcare field & 4 years sober. No matter how shitty things are right now, it will always change. Idk if anyone will even see this but don't give up
Edit:wow thank you for all the comments.

I don’t even really listen to rhcp and this popped into my brain. So good
Kind of reminds me of The Joker by the Steve Miller Band.

sometimes i wish i could go back to 93. i remember seeing this video in regular rotation on MTV, along with all the other awesome tunes of that time.
It sure was less stressful and far more meaningful. It wasn't grotesque like today.

Nice.
It helps me, too. Not sure I'll ever find that peace of mind, but the song helps.

RHCPs ability to hit a range of human emotions is incredible. No surprise they are up there as one the goats.
When I first heard this at 7 years old it was instantly my favorite RHCP song.
32 years later at almost 39 years old it remains my favorite. Timeless song and nostalgic video. Miss the 90's.
