One of the best chapters and again with Askelad at the center of everything.
It's interesting just how you pointed out all the opportunities Thorfin had to kill Askelad and still chose to duel, as reminiscent of what Thors taught him, or the way I see it, the way Thorfin clung to not end of becoming what he hated most. Killing from behind would end up turning him into someone like Askelad.
In addition to the fact that it never ceases to surprise how cold but intelligent Askelad is, he always knew that Thorfin would do even the lowest things to win a duel with him, still, he knew that Thorfin would never beat him in a duel, honor prevented him from having the true intention to murder him, however we cannot say that Askelad does not feel a certain degree of appreciation for Thorfin, he has become something very close to a mentor.
PS: Everytime we heard that piano going hard we know something will hurt bad...

Askalad feelings toward thorfin are so complicated I don't even know where to start , it's like he looks down on him for being so easily manipulated by his "father's murderer" , for choosing to do his revenge the " right way " and waste his life away while at it , same with the Vikings, so you do all this killing randomly and meaninglessly, I am literally making you kill for me , but my death got to be done " in an honorable way " ? The dumbest choice born out of love and respect to his father , contradictory to askalad smart and humiliating revenge born out despise and hate toward his own father , quite an ironic contradiction, so i don't necessarily think he respects him but his father thors more likely, and he is obviously aware he is a KID brought up under good parenting and healthy values so he kinda cut him some slack and give extra effort to show him how ridiculous and barbaric the Norse culture is ,in Hope that he will not grow up to be a viking , to be honest I don't think he would have been nearly as lenient with him if he was an adult, an already full fledged Viking
