Hi @spvidz you are the one and only that can help Me 😅. I want to buy my first SAMPLING groovebox and I'm very doubtful between Lofi 12 XT and Circuit Rhythm! (Maybe also Roland P6) My actual and future "genres" will concerned in: Ambient-Drones-Lofi Cyberpunk-Post Rock-Synthwave and Here is what I'm looking for: 1- Easy of use (It must be intuitive and simple, with a childproof workflow 😅). 2- Inspirational (It must have skill to help to be creative maybe with some "automatic tricks" that can help me to compose and to find new ideas, creativity and experimentation). 3- Allaround capability (I mean a mix of: portability, functions, hardware power, longevity, quality construction and connections, standalone Power). 4- stock sounds engine (for my genre). 5- Sampling options. 6- Realtime live performance controls. Which is the winner for me and why? 🙏🤟 Thank you so much in advance for your help and congrats for your wonderful channel ❤️!!
I have one and it has been gathering dust. I'm hopeful YOUR series on this will get me going! I'm subscribing now. I love the way you go THROUGH things slowly and explain completely. No speedy stuff. Thank you!
for sure@@spvidz. while you're here wanted to shout out your xmas kit, i bought it and am using my circuit rhythm and some of those samples to chuck together a xmas beattape which is coming together great. good shout.
hell yeah, I got mine when the SP404 MK2 was not available, with the idea of selling it as soon as I get the SP... but no no no I've just kept it, it's super fun, portable, and sounds great. The UI is brilliant. My only problems with it are mono + extremely short sample time and the fact that it records TOO HOT and distorts the audio. I've tried several things (deactivating the compressor, setting an option that lowers the dbs for recording) but I never got it to work properly as the SP404 does. So I have to sample elsewhere and transfer it by the computer. Probably it's something I'm doing wrong, so I'll be looking forward to your videos on the subject so I can compare your workflow with mine and see what I'm doing wrong! for the price, an excellent device!
yeah, they pair together really well. i use it with my old 202 sometimes, since i also got it pre mkII. tbh, the sequencer and effects pass thru would probably be worth it even if i never touched the sample engine.
I've already been using my MK2 for treating samples before dropping them into this too which is really fun. I've got the compressor on too and noticed a big difference in the sound once its sampled in but I actually thought it sounded pretty nice so far lol. Not had an issue with it yet but thats definitely something I'll look into.
It's a great groovebox. I only have two criticisms of the CR: 1) Having to use Novation Components to compile and transfer samples (would much prefer just being able to bung a stack of wavs on an SD micro card). 2) The "unquantized" recording is only 24ppq (6 "microsteps" per step). Other than that, the Circuit workflow is perfection.
it seems you can populate the sd without components… there is an article at novation Setting-up-Packs-on-SD-card-manually-to-use-with-Circuit-Rhythm didn‘t try yet
@@spvidz Of course you can import samples via the SD micro card (that's what it's there for). The problem is, you can't simply bung a bunch of random wavs directly onto a card and have the Circuit Rhythm read them. You have to use Components to create a folder structure comprising "packs" containing a set of samples. It's a bit of a spontaneity killer. If you're working on a beat and decide "This would sound even better with that saxophone lick I've got on my computer," you can't simply use Windows explorer to copy the file from your HD to the SDCard. You have to upload the existing pack from your CRin components, add the new sample and then transfer it back to the CR (which is significantly slower than just connecting your PC line-out to the CR's line-in and sampling it. but I think the bigger problem with the CR is the low PPQ.

Funnily i just got one myself. I wanted an EP-133 but it wasn't available and this one looked way more sturdy. And it has sample reverse! Having no screen is a big plus too for me. I really like to just listen without seeing numbers or graphics. Novation did a great job.
Always been tempted by this, but the lack of any kind of screen has always put me off. Same with the Mono Station and some of their other products. I know the pads kind of function as a basic display with some info lit up across the pads, but a proper screen (even a tiny one) would improve the experience so much
Thats fair. I personally quite like that part of it as it means there's very little menu diving etc, its really hands on but I can understand people wanting a bit more visual feedback 👍
Always thankful for more videos, even if I don't have this sampler! Have you ever messed with a Digitakt? That's my main, but I am doing my best to learn the 404 mkII as well. I recently bought a midi A cable to sync them and the possibilities are so overwhelming
Many thanks for this video, I was thinking about getting one of these but Teenage Engineering released the K.O ll so I thought “thats my Xmas present sorted then!” But the manufacturing problems with the fader, knobs etc….. had me thinking I’m gonna wait a few months, maybe I’ll revisit this baby again. Be good if we could get more work flow vids!!!
Congrats on the well deserved freebie. I won't be getting this but I'll watch the content anyway. Do you reckon you'd ever get a Zoom sampletrak? Asking for a friend 🤔
Thats definitely a device thats been on my 'want' list a long time. I'm not sure I can handle any more samplers at the moment though its getting a bit out of control lol. I think I'll be moving some on next year so maybe there will be space a little later in the year 🙌
Definitely a fun sampler best £300 iv spent it's addictive and sounds dope it's so easy to use and fast if it had stereo output polyphony it would be unstoppable...I recommend them to everyone who wants to get into sample based music ...
I dont think any of these were christmas samples ma guy! The kit I mentioned doesn't include melodic samples - its drums, percs and a few film bites too
The Circuit Rhythm is such a fun sampler. Fairly limited, but firmly focused on the sweet spot. I use it mainly as an ideas thing and drum machine when out and about. It doesn't compare well to, say, Digitakt (which still is the benchmark for drum samplers imho), but if you want to bash one out on the go, Circuit Rhythm can't be beat.
I love the rhythm, but my MKII replaced it. Things that were a deal breaker for me: - It's hard to use outside. I wanted a device I can use on the patio. - I don't like the whole novation components thing. Makes a device pretty dependent on an app. - Cant truly unquantize Things I love! - The workflow is fun and immediate. There's really no menu diving other than the shifting one level deeper - love the layout when playing a sample chromatically - The pads are a bit small, but a big fan of novation pads - The device feels pretty premium - Sidechain (Seriously don't understand why the MKII didn't get this)
The sidechain feature is so nice, I'm going to do a seperate video on that! What makes it difficult to use outside? I found it immediately more portable than the MK2 with the built in battery, then I just used my phone to sample in
@@spvidz looking forward to that side chain video and the series in general! And I love the portability in size and built in battery. The problem for me was seeing the pads light up in daylight. It got a little easier once I started to have some muscle memory
This looks dope bro. Are you holding off on the KO2 until TE figures out their ish with quality control? Mine came in from Guitar Center here in the US and luckily I got one with zero issues. Fader works, batteries work, speaker works. I feel bad for all the people having issues. L8r!
I've been trying to get one direct from TE so its a bit of a waiting game at the moment as they don't have that many to give out. I'm hoping that comes through but if not I may get one myself in the new year we'll see. I've seen a lot of people having trouble with them and apparently TE are working on a ton of bugs already
Poor man's polyphony trick that I've yet to try on mine: you can sample in a few triads flavors on one track that you then transpose as needed and then use another one or two tracks of the same sound for extended chords and make up pretty much any progression that way. You could have the three inversions of major and minor, that's just six samples on one track and you're good to go if you dedicate two or three tracks to keys. Envelopes and sustain and making the changes feel natural might be a challenge but should be doable. EDIT: i mean use another track for those extra single notes beyond the triads that live on one track. or have a large collection of chords samples obviously but that would then be a drag
Thanks for all the comments! Can't wait to post more about this.

I have my circuit rhythm and sp synced. Recently ive been doing my drums on the circuit and chopping my samples and effects on the sp
Dope. I'll have to try that at some point. I really need to try and get into midi next year...
@@spvidz dope, it is pretty easy and that way you get the ease of sequencing on the circuit and the ability for stereo and the additional sp effects
Great vid, I love my Circuit Rhythm. The screenless workflow has made me use my ears rather than my eyes to produce, it's great.
I like that aspect of it yeah,. It feels really focused when you are using it

yes, for microstep-based unquantized to work at slower tempos it needs for example 12 microsteps just like on the Arturia drum boxes.

Circuit Rhythm is my first sampler. Put it at the end of your chain for punch in FX.
This and the Circuit Monostation- both from Novation, both criminally overlooked.
Yeah the Monostation is also great, very nice analog synth for sure and paired with that killer sequencer is beautiful
Circuit Rhythm and Tracks are on my list. Thanks for the video.

Fair point. I thought the same but I actually ended up loving circuits for the lack of screen. Once you learn it, feels like picking up a guitar.
I recently started using it as a controller in ableton. Was always told you couldn't. While it has limitations, it has a great deal of ability.
I just ordered one yesterday.. Painful to wait for delivery :D
