You're only allowed to do a balsa bench if you carry it to the beach and build something there with it! Preferably with coconuts....

Hey I sent a join request for the 1812 Indian village, not much goes on in the group but it does give heads up on the event which is moved a week up to October 1st-3rd.

You highly recommended Pfeil and Two Cherries in this QA as the top carving tools brands. I really didn't anticipate the latter recommended by you, since the Two Cherries didn't do well on your general chisel test, i.e. the objective data part of the spreadsheet. Can you elaborate a bit on your logic / conclusion / recommendation?

That test was bench chisels. For carving chisels the quality of steel has little to do with it.

How is edge durability a trivial matter for carving tools compared to bench chisels?

@@WoodByWrightHowTo Btw. I really do greatly appreciate the work and precision gone into your test of bench chisels. Impressive datacollection.

It is not trivial, but it is far less a problem with carving chisels because of constant stropping rather then sharpening. I almost never sharpen my carving tools. Just strop them every 5 minutes or so.

Titebond 3 takes a while to set up and get tacky. You don't need epoxy, it's a waste of money. I do big multi-board laminations regularly and it always goes just fine. My work bench is 5" thick, 36" deep and 7' long made from 2x6 Douglas fir. One glue up and I used PVA glue on it with time to spare for cauls.
