Disclaimer: The lyrics of this song pull from the original prose in the novel, JAWS (1974) by Peter Benchley, and retell the scene of Matt Hooper's and Ellen Brody's affair and their first mutually consensual sexual encounter. This affair was a major subplot and driver of character development in the novel, setting up Matt Hooper to be more of an additional antagonist for Martin Brody to contend with, but was completely excluded from the iconic movie adaption by Steven Speilberg for various reasons.
Benchley wrote the scene brilliantly to feel more like an unexpected shark attack; illuminating the inherent darkness and unseen or unrecognized predatory nature of marital affairs.
It is not a description of actual assault or condoning physical abuse of any kind towards women, men, fishing boats, or sharks. It's sex described as a shark attack.
Rad!
Thanks dude!!
