'Bohemian Rhapsody' sounds like somebody put four or five different songs - all completely unrelated to each other - into a blender, and then turned the blender on for about ten seconds, at a low setting. The only part of that song anybody remembers is the almost nonsensical, insufferably esoteric opening chorus, and the only reason it's such a huge hit is because Freddy Mercury died of AIDS.
@@mr.helloween1313 Yes exactly, Bohemian Rhapsody is a masterpiece on it's own and a groundbreaking piece for its time for several reasons and yes, it wasn't a huge hut in the US but outside the USA it became a number one hit many times.
The fact that you can't really appreciate the song says more about your musical knowledge and capabilities to understand their music than it does about Bohemian Rhapsody.

Fair enough, their peak was definitely between Sheer Heart Attack and A Day at the Races, can't argue with that, but still they have a ton of amazing music from their self-tittled debit all the way to he posthumous swansong Made in Heaven, yeah, these guys missed the mark like pretty hard like their target was in another hemisphere or another entire planet to be real but still, Queen has got some hard misses like Delilah, on that they're totally right to criticize it, probably their weakest most horrible song, but still, they're Greta and I think that these guys are just coping through these podcast shows with the fact that nobody likes the music they're a fan of. I like Van Halen but mostly just as a guitar player myself. All the vocals, and lyrics are the same mumbo jumbo of yelling "baby", "yeah", and various other random stuff. Lyrical subject is recycled too much. I think overall you could possibly sum up Van Halen as a band that sucks.

I use to really like queen but then after a couple of months I got so sick of queen and as I started to listen to more bands from the 60's to 90's I realised that their music just isn't as good as people say it is and now I just really can't listen to them. I just believe that yes they were good at their instruments they was better before and after them
I've been always amazed at how all their songs repeat the same formula, as if they were spoken by a spoiled child crying to his mommy: "i want to ride my bicycle, i want to ride my bike", "all i want is radio gaga, radio gugu". Either that, or a bunch of kids on the back of a school bus, yelling at the bus driver, as in we will rock you or whatever. We are the champions, man. They are rocking happy birthday and jolly good fellow in everyone's faces. As you said, it's a Monty Python sketch that people haven't figured out yet. Great podcast.
27:30 The punchline that follows; I'm going to put that up there with almost anything from Kinison or Hicks. I think I was at UCB theatre in LA. And Brian Posehn talked about flipping a car on a stormy bridge to "Got For Teacher" and as he's going inverted: Diamond Dave" is singing, "OH MY GOD!!! .. 😹
Ummmmmm, the point of queen is that they have so many different genres, and they did it sooooo much better than everyone else. I feel like you to have only listened to their popular songs. Freddie’s vocals are amazing and powerful and queen created some of the best songs in history. You’re only picking songs that are bad, Get this through your thick skulls that no album in the history of music is perfect.
Correction: I listen to mostly queen from the 70s, also I understand that this is an opinion but their critiques were not very well made and they did not make any since, queen is for those of us that like good music
Why does every classic rock fan act like queen is something cutting edge band? Lmao Listen to primus, radiohead, cardiacs and Frank Zappa to then realise queen are just generic pop.
I LOVE Queen music. I know everything(Okay maybe not EVERYTHING) about the band. I love all of them. Freddie And Roger were best friends. In 1991 Freddie died of AIDS. John Deacon, the bass player left because of Freddie’s death.
I hate how that stupid biopic made the average schmuck think Freddie Mercury was the greatest vocalist in rock. Freddie Mercury barely had any rock n’ roll vibe in his vocals. His voice is so over the top and ham fisted. Steve Marriott was a thousand times the better British rock vocalist.

Pretty good taste with Queen, pretty bad taste with this podcast, they really didn't drive home any points, they were unnecessarily rude, mostly of what they said was wrong, false, taken out of context or plain out fantasy.
You're shitting on that they made music in a lot of different genres, honestly that is one of the things I like so much about them. They have something for everybody
Great episode, totally agree with everything except the praise for Nickelback and Van Halen (who I think are both terrible). But at least Van Halen and Nickelback aren't pretentious narcissists trying to "elevate" rock music to the same level as opera. They are what they are, just party rock. The common thread running through Queen's music is opera-inspired rock music, which is a really bizarre combination. It's just weird and flamboyant and lame. Everyone remembers the few good songs they have, but the majority of their music is straight-up annoying. I also dislike British culture, and European culture in general is extremely elitist and look down their noses at Americans. Also, I am Canadian and Nickelback got overplayed on the radio because Canadian law requires a certain percentage of "Canadian content" on the airwaves, and if something is even remotely mediocre, it will get overplayed on the radio as if it's the best thing ever. Honestly, what ruined Nickelback was the shitty song on the Spiderman 2 soundtrack, "Hero". It was played 30 times a day for like 3 years straight. And there is one band that never sticks to a specific genre but manages to be awesome, and it's Ween. Also, you guys should do Yes, and Michael Jackson. You mentioned them here, but they deserve their own episodes. All of MJ's music after Thriller is absolutely cringeworthy, especially the 90's stuff.
Queen had one song with a faux opera section, and people keep on thinking they just did opera inspired music. Or people listen to We Will Rock You, and think they only made bombastic music. Both is not true, they really did any type of song you can think of. Queen did every genre, there is probably a Queen song out there that any person could like. Because they never stuck to one or two genres, the music press hated them, when they first started out, they were lumped in with the heavy metal scene, and heavy metal was hated at the time. The Rolling Stone magazine has always hated Queen, they were lumped in with the prog rock scene during punk revolution, and the music press just hated on them even further. In truth they were not part of the prog rock scene, they never produced +10 minute songs, and they were always completely unpretentious. Freddie Mercury called their music disposable pop that could be disregarded at any time. They were certainly a lot more self aware then most bands.
@@xvelocity7083 AC/DC sticks to their talents and puts out why they think sounds good I grew up with AC/DC and I admit that it can get stale but it does sound good as individual songs.

Blame Queen for Kanye and JayZe and Eminem etc And limp biscuit. Limp Bisquick SUXXX AND BLOWZZZ "Boom Boom Bap + Rap" L.B. just added the Stoopid Goatee
Well, rap is well documented as a form of rythmic retelling and music as far back as the 1930s and 1940s by black groups and has nothing related in regards of influence, pedigree or style to "We Will Rock You" which is more of a chant, it's got a very particular tone, rythm and melodic structure, unrelated to rap. It's like if you were saying that The Beatles were responsible for rap because of their influence of modern music, yeah, it could be argued that even modern rap was indirectly influenced by them at some level but that isn't really the case, they're not responsible for that sort of thing and neither is Queen.
I'm a little sad about your opinion but at the end its your opinion and I have to respect it. I have to say... maybe some songs like "Delilah" or "I'm In Love With My Car" or "Bohemian Rhapsody" are strange and senseless for you, but at least for me are good because they are original and have the personality of each member of the band.
