We used to sing this in Charismatic church in the 1980's. There was another verse then. "Gone are my burdens, oh hallelujah. I came to Jesus, I felt them go. Happy I now abide down by the River side. I got a River of Life flowing out of me!" "So, bless that name the Wonderful name of Jesus.3x. Bless His holy name!"
Only the River of Life can bring together people of different ethnic groups in unison and jubilant praise to God. Dear Father, let the well spring up fully in our hearts and lives until see the Lord Jesus Christ in his glory! Amen.
What a beautiful song! My old church, Abundant Grace Ministries used to sing this song with Prophetess Paula Watson when she invited in other Prophets.
When I first went to a Christian camp three years ago, I heard this being sung by a group of guys at one of the dinning hall tables. I had no idea what the song was called and didn’t hear the lyrics that well as they were slamming the table to make a beat. When I got back from that first trip, I tried searching for the song by putting in what I thought was the lyrics. I eventually gave up and when next year came, I went back to the camp. I heard the song again but still never found out what it was called. Fast-forward to 2024 and I go back to the camp for my third year there. I actually only heard them sing it once but it was still on my mind for a week after. Keep in mind that I am writing this only a couple weeks after this year’s camp (it only goes on for a weekend) so the song is still fresh on my mind. I decided to try and search up the lyrics again only to be correct and find a site that showed the lyrics. That might seem like a victory, but there was a catch. The version they sung had no instrumental, just the table slamming. It was also sung in a completely different tone and was pretty unique. Finally, the real kicker is that there is one guy who carried the whole thing because of his loud voice. Making it impossible to hear the version I loved hearing at camp. Meaning that I can only here that version of the song a few times a year depending on how many times they sing it at camp.
Not a Christian but I remember going to Christian summer camp with my cousin when I was younger and they would always request to sing this song 😂 still slaps

All the world has an appointment with Jesus, both the quick and the dead.
This song always makes me feel better when I’m at my lowest, which I’m often am
I can picture David Wilkerson standing up with uplifted hands weeping.
