One thing i didnt understand was if you were 3 people and this guy was alone why didnt you consider taking him down and tieing him up? Yes when mandela came to power racism in the police and politicians decreased but if you watch the 1994 election debate between mandela and deklerk. deklerk said some of the violence was black on black. Hey dude thanks for posting this, it’s one of my favorite Locked Up Abroad episodes (hard to find). I know of someone who claims to have escaped from a similar jail in Romania that was like this...but he made keys in the metal shop.
Mr Tim Jenkin, I just read your book and i`d like to say that it`s the most amazing i`ve read thus far in my life.. All i have to say is that I fully appreciate now the meaning of freedom and am now a bit more familiarized with the aprertheid and from your point of view I was able to extract some deductions about the regime. i am just wondering how come your story hasn`t got the level of exposure it deserves, I really believe that the three of you should be deemed heroes in South Africa. I really do acknowledge the fact that i cant understand things the way they really were and for this reason i won`t go any further with expressing opinions. All i do know now is that if i get locked up in my life, i will definitely have a startpoint from which i could set about fighting for my freedom( joke, i really dont plan on going to prison, but just in case..). Anyway,I most sincirely hope that the world will not witness such a menace( the apertheid) ever again .
This is an astonishing and inspiring story. The patience and sheer nerve needed to pull something like this off - and get away clean - is breathtaking. The tension I felt just watching this reconstruction was intense, so in real life it must have been almost paralyzing. Well done, sir. Both for the escape itself and for taking a principled stand against that repugnant regime.
The fact that the other prisoners knew and supported it was amazing to me. They wouldn't be able to escape as well and they were ok with that, really shows the support they have for one another.

And for me to be able to comment to an actual escapee is really cool. :) It must have been nerve racking for you guys, knowing that if you got caught, that all of the work was for naught, AND they would have put you in solitary confinement AND they would have lengthened your sentence. Nerves of steel going through 10 doors of steel.
+Tim Jenkin When I found out there was a book on this I spent 2 straight days reading it, and it was one of the best books I ever read. I don't read very often but I thoroughly enjoyed this book, thank you for that and for your contributions to South African society.
I just watched the movie so of course I immediately Dashed to RUclips and just got done watching the 2017 LockCon conference. It was very entertaining to say the least, first you and Stephen should have never went to jail, neither should have that guard for 6 months. At the end of the LockCon conference if anyone would have asked what’s the key to freedom, all they could have done is watch at the end and see there’s that pic of you holding that key 🔑. There’s only one thing I don’t understand, you said when you first got to prison you hid that money for 3 months, but you were in prison over a year, so you took it out after the first 3 months and had it out the remainder of the year? You’re story is very inspirational, I’m glad y’all got out.

What a real clever guy, making those keys !!😊
Tim, this is an interesting, exciting, daring escape!
Man's ingenuity knows no bounds ......absolutely brilliant!...Why this has not been made into a film I don't know, gripping !.
It has been made into a film. See "Escape From Pretoria", starring Daniel Radcliffe and Daniel Webber.
@@timjenkin2295 thanks Tim.
Might be a stupid question but is the guy who uploaded this the guy in the episode? They look very similar.
+SuperLostsouls Yes
Wow, you sir are a mastermind! Fantastic story, thank you for uploading.
+Tim Jenkin you are free now?
+Tim Jenkin When I found out there was a book on this I spent 2 straight days reading it, and it was one of the best books I ever read. I don't read very often but I thoroughly enjoyed this book, thank you for that and for your contributions to South African society.
I will have to look it up.
This escape was beyond brilliance.....I'm so glad they made it! WOW!
The music the warden put on was perfect for this escape btw this is the first episode I’ve watched that the prisoners escaped without being caught
Wats it called
Tim... You are a fucking legend. Great job makin those keys.
I wonder what they think of South Africa now.
Another nostalgic pro-Apartheid. Why you don´t move to Brazil? You would love the goverment.
@@juanmanuelsarasa6360 It's a fair question. But you obviously don't think it should even be asked.
Brilliant! Job well done! Love this episode
can't do this nowadays. because we have cameras and the locks are completely different.
who is here after ESCAPE FROM PRETORIA trailer ,Daniel Radcliffe ?

I'm just here to know how they really escape and I watched the movie but I wanna watch the real thing happened
Teachs to never give up no matter how hard the situation is
This soundtrack sends chills down the spine,,awesome prison break
Hands down that was the best prison escape I've seen here.
Unlocking his cell from inside and trying it for like 2 months the patience the intelligence unbelievable 🤯
That was awesome, I new you can do it!
The best TV shows in my life;I ever saw.& also the best episode. ✌✌✌
Reza Islam Shuvo is there any more espiodes of breakout
WHY WOULD ANYONE DISLIKE THIS
This was nerve wracking just to watch. I can't imagine how these guys felt.
Even watching a movie it's very breathtaking
I feel fortunate to have worked next to brave and intelligent men like Cde Tim Jenkins, unspoken revolutionaries and heroes in the fight against apartheid. Silent waters run deep indeed.
WOW, the broom stick idea is so MacGyverish, it's amazing to be able to go through such a door
Here I am absolutly for the escapees. good work!
A little bit like W.W.2 Victims In Germany or Poland. But most of them got killed.
