Still get chills. It was an honor to perform this piece right next door to Mother Emmanuel, and in Chicago for Midwest (where as it was being performed, phones in the audience started buzzing in people's pockets to announce the ruling in the shooter's trial).
Thank you for this beautiful and powerful music. I remember and was able to attend a gathering outside Mother Emanuel Church last night in memory of Clementa C. Pinckney Sharonda Coleman-Singleton Myra Thompson Tywanza Sanders Ethel Lee Lance Cynthia Marie Graham Hurd Daniel L. Simmons Depayne Middleton-Doctor Susie Jackson
thank you very much Becky. I so appreciate your words. I'm gratified to know that my attempts to represent the victims the best I could had an affect on you.
Sat in the front row, on the floor of the Music For All festival performance of this piece. Never before have I felt a stronger connection to what music has done for me and for people all across the world, or more in touch with the power that it really has. That evening is one of my most cherished memories, and I don't think that will ever change. Jim, I will never forget the affect you've had on me, not as a musician, or as a composer, but as a human being. This is music, and therefore humanity, in the purest form I've ever been able to come across. Thank you so very much for what you do, know that it truly does more than you could ever hope to imagine.
on the evening of december 5th, 2023, one of my best friends and i were having a discussion about music. i told him about caccia and chorale by clifton williams. he told me about this piece. i told him i would listen to it first thing the next morning. on the morning of december 6th, 2023, i listened to this piece. it was the first thing i did when i woke up. just a few hours later, i experienced a school shooting. those of us on campus were in lockdown the whole day, unsure of who we lost. were they family? friends? colleagues? coworkers? professors? how many were dead? who is dying? are we next? friends and family from all over texted us, trying to account for those still alive. meanwhile, those of us in the classrooms were not receiving information from our local government at all. this all made national (and global) news, while the locals didn't even know what was happening. im in the knitting club. i took out knitting needles for classmates, my professors, my students/mentees. just in case we needed to defend ourselves against an active shooter. we lost three professors. this is not normal. this shouldn't be normal. end gun violence.
I was just thinking of this piece and the incredible power it holds. I was extremely honored to sit first chair clarinet in the Honor Band of America and perform this at the Music For All festival. Again, thank you so much for writing this wonderful piece of music.

Saw this at the music for all festival with 5 chime players And it was amazing
That night will be unforgettable.
They advertise a "positively life-changing experience," and by god that concert changed my life.
I played clarinet in that concert and it was by god the best musical experience of my life
brought me here too, never will forget that concert
