- Are Vogue Very Easy Options Sewing Patterns very easy?
Yes these patterns are definitely a go to sewing pattern for beginners.
In this video I sew Vogue V9328 and it was an easy sewing pattern to follow it was just a very hard time in my life so it took a lot longer then I thought its would but here it is finally completed.
This dress is is a floor length cottage core style dress with pockets that I absolutely lov. I can't wait to sew this pattern again and see if it is easier when I am feeling better. But overall to was a great sewing pattern and I hope you enjoy watching me sew this dress.

When you have to ease things (like your Princess seams - with one piece slightly larger than the other) make sure you sew it with the larger piece under and the smaller piece on top. The feed dogs will move the lower fabric a tiny bit faster than the top piece which just slides under the Sewing foot.
Thank you for such a great tip!
It does but its small. It just makes it not stretch the other piece out.
I’m so glad you are sewing this beautiful dress. This is just a suggestion, when trying your mock up, do it with the bra you’re planning to wear. The sweater being worn below can distort the fitting.
Thank you for this tip!
I've found if I try on the toile (mock up) inside out it's easier to pin the alterations.
Made clothes for myself and children until I was about 40. I worked full time as an RN and had eight children. By the time I had baby 8 when I was 42, something had to go. That was the sewing. Now 70 and just starting sewing again. I always have problems with purchased patterns and matching front and back, sleeves etc. Fitting yourself is not easy either
Thank you for sharing. I’m happy you are sewing again 😊
Purchased bias tape was very common in the 60's when I learned to sew. I hated it in 1964, and I still hate it in 2024, so your comments were spot on in my book. I prefer 1) make my own, 2) draft a facing, 3) my favorite... make a lining.
Notched edges always get sewn to something else, in this case the sleeve. I don't know what's going on with the directions. You did a BEAUTIFUL job on this dress! "Easy Options" is meaningless words, like "No-Wax-Floor".
😂😂
Wow! What a beautiful dress! You did a wonderful job and it looks great on you! Loved your video. You have a nice soothing voice and I like hearing your thought process as you work. Important to make time for your hobbies. This is your one and only life, do what you love when you can. I'm retired now and can spend more time with my hobbies. Brings joy! 🥰🌟
Thank you so much for watching. It Makes me happy you enjoyed the video 😊
You look beautiful in it!
I prefer a double folded bias tape, super easy to work with, requires stitching it on, folding it over and stitching it again... i agree with you, I feel I am sitting on the floor, cutting, trimming, pinning, un-picking lol, etc. more than actually sitting at the machine. Would love to see you do some of the patterns I did, to see how they come out as I am still learning... love your channel
Thanks for sharing! I’m still learning too. And I’m having fun with it again!
Thank you sooo much for sharing this video. I watch a few sewing channels and everyone is so knowledgable. Your video is so relatable for me. I am looking forward to learning with you as your skills grow ❤😊
Thank you so much I’m glad you enjoyed it! I’ve been sewing about 3 years at times I feel like I should know more by now but……. I think it will be a lifelong process and passion of mine 😊
That was an awesome story, the Halloween dress, the sharing of your newness and questions when following instructions with sick fog brain, and the final joy of completion. A young working mother that takes time to learn to sew. Good on you!
Thank you so much I really appreciate your kind words ♥️
I love that fabric!! As to work life balance, when I went back to work lists were important making sure we all knew what was going on and when. As to patterns, look at cashmerette patterns. I’ve made a few and they are awesome and they have a ton of cup sizes and you put in your upper bust and bust and they tell you what size you’ll need it’s fit perfectly every time.
I love how this dress came out. It has a really nice shape.
This dress is gorgeous and you look amazing in it. I think you did A+ with the fit.
Regarding the pattern...this is more gothic/lolita than hardcore Halloween, so you could totally pull it off "everyday," if you wanted. I recently made a gunne sax dress that's a dinosaur taco print. Everyone compliments me on it...and most of the time, they don't even register what the print is until I (very enthusiastically) point it out. Take that as you will 😁
Also, so glad to see you persevering through your schedule changes and sickness. Hang in there. 🧡
I think gothic it is! and as I wore the dress I realized it will be one I wear often! thanks for watching
Wear it for day of the dead. Cinco de Mayo. May 5th.
You are doing great, I appreciate hearing from other ladies who are figuring out how to sew for yourself. I gave sewn for years but struggle making clothes for myself. Keep going and you will get this.
On work life balance, it's hard. Prioritize what matters most. I was a single parent and military. If your job is not providing basics it is not #1 or 2. If your employer understands that you work because you choose to they will be more reasonable.
Now i need to look for that pattern...it looks amazing on you!
Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share very good insight! Much appreciated
You might have the machine cleaned and serviced. I sew a lot, and have to take mine in about once a year for cleaning. If you have problems with something specific, tell them and they will check it then. Your dress is beautiful. You did very well!
i feel for you so much in your struggle to find time for yourself and to create. i’m also a mama of 2 with a full time job, a freelance gig to make ends meet AND trying to get sewing in between family time and keeping up the house. some days it feels impossible, especially when you have curve balls like illness thrown your way. be kind to yourself with the self imposed deadlines, no you didn’t finish the dress for halloween, but you finished it!! that is a huge win! and second, what has been working for us setting aside dedicated sewing time during the week when my husband is in charge of the kids and they all have to leave me alone 😂 best of luck to you in this challenging season, you have a lot to be proud of 💕
I just found this comment. I think I was meant to see it today. Thanks so much 🥰
Your dress looks beautiful. Glad you’re feeling better.
I love this dress and your fabric. I love the pink and the skulls.
Are yes finding balance is new to me to. Difficult when used to working half as much to fit everything in. Listening while cleaning on the weekend 😂
Turned out so good! The fit looks great! Thanks for sharing even though it’s later than you expected-it’s a good reminder that we are all just doing our best and we just have to find those moments whenever we can to explore the things that make us light up:) love seeing the joy on your face at the end❤
Thank you so much! I truly felt happy in that moment I guess it shows! We had it hard for a while and I’m glad the storming is moving past ♥️
Pretty dress. Glad you felt well enough to finish.
I'm always intimidated by vogue patterns - thank you for this
You did an amazing job sewing your beautiful dress!
I love that fabric. You look so good in that style.
I'm so glad you're feeling better. I managed to get the plague just before Halloween, so no parties for me. Plus my partner and my best friend got it, too. So we had a sick household for the last 3 weeks. But all better now, though that dang couch is hanging on a while longer.
With your sewing, I know you're concerned about doing things correctly, so first of all I want to tell you that, for the most part, you are. Yeah there a things you don't understand right now, but that comes with practice. One thing I tell stitchers is something my last sewing teacher told our class every time we started a new pattern. Read the instructions through completely 3 times. The first time is to familiarize yourself with some the steps. Most you will know, but others look unfamiliar. Take a highlighter and mark any instruction you are unsure of. Then when you've read them all, set them down and walk away. Do something else for a little while that doesn't concern sewing. This gives your brain time to ruminate on what you read. The when you come back and read them a second time just sit down and read them again, especially those parts you're unsure of, to see if they make sense this time. Make notes on the instructions, highlight any more tricky spots, and otherwise just see what's what. If there's a technique just you don't understand, look it up. I suggest a sewing manual, especially if it's an older one from the 40s or 50s. They have more information that newer sewing manuals. I have several form the 40s, 50s, and 70s. You can sometimes find them in used bookstores, or sometimes online. Threads Magazine is a good resource for a lot of different techniques. One of their contributors teaches at F.I.T. Plus they have a RUclips channel you can subscribe to. (Something I highly recommend.) Plus maybe get a subscription to their magazine. My sewing teacher called the magazine her "continuing education." Then the third time you read the instructions should be when you are actually sewing the garment. By this time you should be familiar enough with them to anticipate some of the steps.
About the numbering of the pattern pieces. Did you realize that each piece is numbered according to when in the instructions you'll be using it them. Piece 1 is in the first instruction, then you add that to piece 2 in the second instruction, and so on. I've been sewing for over 50 years and I only realized that about 5 years ago. Oh, and you're so right about the actual amount of time spent sewing. My sewing teacher also told us that we would only spend about 10 percent of our time at the machine. The rest would be cutting, pinning, clipping/grading, etc. at the cutting table or ironing.
All in all, the dress came out fantastic. There are a lot of recommendations I could make about some of the parts where you were questioning yourself and your choices, but they'd all be too long for this already too long comment. The bias binding looks good. Yeah, so you didn't do it according to the instructions. That means you just needed fold the neck edge over a little more to compensate. Honestly, the busyness of the fabric print makes it hard to see if anything is totally wrong. And as to whether you should have done the B-cup size I will say, unequivocally, no. You choose correctly. The fit is good from what I can see. The good thing about these multiple cup size patterns is that now folks don't have to do either a FBA (Full Bust Adjustment) or an SBA (Small BA) unless they are way off from those cup sizes. If you want a better idea of basic patterns and different style adjustments, I suggest you check out The Closet Historian. Bianca really helps folks understand how style lines are decided on and how the garment is then made. In her earlier videos she shows how to make basic bodice and skirt blocks. She's a great instructor, though she would tell you otherwise. She's quite humble and when speaking she has a very matter of fact delivery style.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this. It’s full of great information. For some reason I never read the instructions until I’m actually sewing the dress. I literally read them as I go for the first time. I will most certainly be taking your advice and reading them more then once and highlighting and making notes! Such a great tip! I’m glad you all are feeling better!
Good to hear that your and your family's health is improving! I love how it turned out! Seeing your final garment is making me want to skip all my other plans and get started on this pattern.
Thank you! And I definitely think this is a one or two day pattern and worth it. Mine fit a little loose in the bust I could have done the b instead of c and I’m a 36 D in bra size
This turned out so cute, I also struggle with pockets. Idk why they are so hard for me!
You look fabulous in that dress and I am glad you feel better. Congratulations on your new job. I know it's hard full-time mom and work but you can do it. I also stay home mom for 2 years and I know how you feel now. But it's good to go out and work. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you so much for the encouragement. It’s needed and appreciated ♥️
It turned out great! Half of sewing is preparation, and the other half is problem solving😂. Embrace bias binding - watch some videos and practice on scraps. I have replaced facings with bias binding because I hate facings with a passion. Use your machine to create basting (long 4-length stitches) guide lines at your seam allowance (5/8”) - or mark your seam allowances with chalk (I find basting simpler and quicker, and can be easily removed). Use this guide line to match up with the fold of a bias binding, and stitch down with normal stitch length of 2.5. Trim excess fabric, and then sew bias binding closed by top stitching it. I use basted guide lines for everything, from bias binding guide lines to rolled hem guidelines. They’re also easy to un-pick out (or Britney J Jones leaves them there, in her recent videos). I like that this pattern only has the back zipper half way, meaning I can undo my dress by myself. Thanks, I have this pattern and will finally pull it out and sew it up.
The other half is definitely problem solving in my sewing room! Love that! Thanks for the tips on the bias binding I will be working with it soon as I think I’m going to give the walk away dress a go! And yes you can put this dress on all by yourself it’s a great pattern! Thanks for watching 😊
This is stunning and very inspiring, my wardrobe is all Gothic so I will have to find some fabric that suits me here in Australia. (we don't have a lot of choices). You have given me confidence to give this a try. Thank You.
Thank you for watching! Happy you found it helpful. Good luck with your wardrobe!
Love the finished dress! I’ve always struggled with the butt adjustments when sewing pants.
Fitting is the hardest skill to learn. Especially on yourself. I have been sewing for years and Im finally learning more about fit. It has really changed my sewing.
This turned out beautiful, I'm glad you were finally feeling better.
♥️♥️
So adorable and great job👏🏻👏🏻🪡🧵☕️🤗it looks SO AMAZING on you♥️🎄🏠
Thank you so much for doing this video so good. I'm glad you're feeling better. It turned out so pretty.
Thank you so much!
This is the most warm and uplifting insight I’ve seen in a long while, thank you. Glad that you persevered and that you felt better and able to share this. Hope you and your family is doing well.
Thank you so much. That warms me to hear. I suffered an extremely bad case of mono that year and it was awful it took the doctors months to figure it out and I was absolutely miserable. It lasted a very hard 6 months!! The few videos I was able to get out during that time you can hear in my voice how sick I was. I’m so happy to have my health and energy back and my family is happy to have me back! ♥️ Thanks again
@@SewSewDrew thank you for the reply and I’m so sorry that you went through that ordeal. Your passion in this project and perseverance are everything. Best of luck with your work.
@JaneKo-yv3nr thank you so much! It really means a lot to me. The gift of time is a special one. Thank you for giving some of yours to me. ♥️
It take practice to get pockets right. Don’t worry about it too much. You’re doing great
Pockets are still a thing for me!
Your dress is very pretty. I’m glad you’re feeling better.
Thank you so much!
You did an amazing job! Such a beautiful dress! Be proud of yourself.
Thank you so much!
This would even be cute for valentine's day since it's pink!
Yes it would have!!! Did you see my valentines make?!
@@SewSewDrew I did. I'm working on watching all your videos 😃!
♥️♥️♥️♥️
And gorgeous. So happy to hear that you are doing well.
Thank you so much! I was sick for almost 6 months it was so awful. I’m feeling really good now. I will never take my health for granted again. 😊
My advice re: fitting garments. Pick one area to focus on getting the right fit. It will probably take a couple garments before you start to notice that you have to make the same adjustments over and over. For example, I have a very round tummy, so I KNOW that I will need to add an inch to the waist. Once I started getting the fit on my tummy done right, I added another area of concern. So then I started making sure my bodice was wide enough AND long enough (I also have a long torso).
Anyways! Basically just take it one area at a time, that way you don’t get overwhelmed and start making a ton of changes to your pattern. 😁
This is such great advice!
Beautiful job you got the top 50 gorgeous hit that your shoulders and hips and all the right places you did a wonderful job I’m gonna get that pattern I’m inspired. Thank you for your video.
Thank you so much for watching and the kind words
YOU DID AN AWESOME JOB!!!!! As far as the darts go, they were not noticeable on the finished dress, [which BTW you could definitely wear any time!!] on your mock-up the side darts were a lil high they should point to the nipple area. I HIGHLY recommend Biancia at The Closet Historian on youtube She is amazing with darts and has several videos on them. Keep up the great work!!! Life is a balance, and you will find yours.
Thank you. So much!
Yes, the darts should be repositioned. Remember to wear the bra you will wear with the dress when you do your fitting. Different bras will shape and position our breasts differently and that can effect where the dart should be. It looked like there was some excess fabric in the midriff in your final product so you may want to taper the waist a bit depending on how you like your clothes to fit. Moving the dart may be enough to take care of that, though, especially if you use a heavier bodied fabric for the next version.
The dress is beautiful! So happy to hear you are better!
Thank you so much!
I think you nailed the bodice. That dress looks great. I even like the way you hemmed the cutout on the back. I think that looks a lot better than black bias tape.
I don't have any tips on using bias tape. I have only ever used it for binding quilts.
Thank you! I hemmed the cutout without reading through the directions, which I am notorious for not reading the directions 🤦🏾♀️
you did an excellent job, your dress is beautiful. you look great in it, you should wear it anytime
Thank you! And I definitely will! 😊
The dress is beautiful.
♥️♥️
Really enjoy your vidoes . You did a great job . I would love to help you with your sewing , as im sure there are plenty others who would . But im sure i am too far away , ( in England . ) I have made A LOT of dresses, trousers , wedding dresses , coats , etc . . Started when i was 14 . I am 82 now . Still sewing . Good for the old brain . Just keep going , im sure you will become an expert at sewing . Love the dress .
Thank you so much for the kindness. And you can help me just keep watching and leave me tips as we go. I’ve learned so much from the people here. Thank you for watching ♥️
oh mama, You sound like you're about to cry when talking about working outside the house. It's a process. Sending love.
Thank you so much. I have cried so much. What gives me comfort is the Association I work for is a really good one that provides help to people diagnosed with a fatal disease and their families. It’s honorable work and my kids are so proud of me. That eases the heart a bit. Thank you for your kindness ♥️
I agree with you about the difficulty of working with bias tape. Facings are easier, in my opinion.
I think so too but people have shared some great tips for working with it!
You did a wonderful job! That dress is gorgeous on you!
Thank you 😊
Loved the print and it looks great on you. Hope that you are fully recovered from yuckiness.
Thank you and yes we are finally recovering. My family is doing well I seem to have the long symptoms, I’m at about 80% looking forward to 100!
I love it! Thanks for sharing the journey ❤
Thanks for watching!
Bias tape is such a bugger. It's taken me a while to get it to a decent outcome and use. Professor Pincushion has a good tutorial on RUclips.
You look good in the dress. I would love to see what everyday wear fabric you would do it in.
I have this pattern and i've been putting off making it as the back gave me a bit of worry - it was lovely to see you sew it! (I also think I'd wear this version everywhere, but thats just me!)
I do wear it a lot actually! And be careful with this pattern it runs a little large. Happy Sewing!
You did a beautiful job! Yes, the prep work takes the longest. I sew mostly on the weekends but when I sew during the week, I give myself 30 minutes. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. You inspire me.
Thank you for watching! Hearing I inspired another person is the hugest compliment. I think I will give myself 30 minutes a day what a great idea ♥️
It's a beautiful dress! You are right to make another one. The pattern/style is lovely on you.
Thank you! 😊
The dress came out Great and you are lovely!
Thank you so much!
You are a real trooper!
That fabric! 😍😍 And pockets? More to love!!
I have the same machine and I absolutely love it.
I learn something new about this machine with every project!
Oooh I really like the fabric. I almost bought this at Joann’s but I ran out of budget
its cute and the more I look at it the more I realize it isn't too halloween themed to wear year round!
It turned out really well and looks great on you!
Thank you!!
I’m glad you pushed through! I’m also glad everyone in your home is on the mend!
Thank you so much!
I feel yr pain with that dress, I don't mess with Vogue patterns, there always seems to be something off. You made it work, looks lovely😁
So true! And thank you 😊
So cute! Love the material I'd wear that all the time!!
I wore it all day after the photos and realized that I will indeed wear it all the time, thanks for watching!!
❤️❤️❤️ the dress is beautiful!
Thank you!
I adore your authenticity! It's challenging being a working mom with hobbies. It gets better :)
Thank you! I needed to hear that ♥️
looks great, good job
Love watching you work. I'm not good with clothes. I do more bags and quilts. You understand instructions and I seem to fail at dress patterns instructions. Beautiful job! So glad you are feeling better!
You can do it! Give a dress a shot!
I think you did an excellent job! Glad you're feeling better!
Thank you!
It turned out beautiful! Great job! I love the opening in the back!
Glad you like it! I think it’s my favorite part
It turned out great!!!
The dress turned out wonderfully, You didd very well. ;)

Looks very good
Cute dress!! I'm glad you're feeling better!

Thank you for being here!
The dress turned out beautiful!
I love your halloween fabric.
Thank you! It’s quite fun isn’t it 😊
Hi Drew. I love the dress and it really suits you. I would wear it all year round as it is floral as well. Hope you and your family get well soon.
Thank you! I am definitely going to wear it year round! I love it kept it on all day long it’s comfy and relaxed and yet I felt so dressed up!
Love that pattern and it is an adorable dress on you. Don't worry if it not Halloween wear it whenever you feel like it!
Yes! Thank you! I will be wearing it. Someone commented it’s more gothic than Halloween and I should wear it whenever I like!
This is GORGEOUS, and you are doing amazing!!!
Thank you so much!!
Fabulous dress!! I'm sorry you hv had to deal with the C....I'm praying for you!
Thank you! I felt good today. I’m grateful to God for it! 🙏🏾
Yayyyy Drew's back!
Thank you for sharing this video
I'm so glad to hear yall are feeling better and will continue yo pray for a full recovery for you all
This fabric and pattern are so pretty and I love the color on you!
Thank you so much Jewel! ♥️
I would still wear the dress even without Halloween. That's just me, but I wear the skull skirt I made all the time! I also collect decorated skulls (fake) and anatomical prints, but I think the dress is beautiful even with the print.
I love how it turned out.
thank you!
Sooo cute!
Hi Drew-I’m new to your channel. I love your calm voice and the pattern you chose!
You may have already heard about this from other viewers but I learned a lot about sewing and fit from MimiG’s Sew It Academy and by being getting a Patreon account with Gertie from Charm Patterns. Just an idea.
I love them both! My problem, we’ll one of my problems is I am so impatient. I’ve learned to slow down a bit and take the time to actually learn to sew and not just sew. I am noticing a huge difference in my projects and skills. As I’ve spent more time watching, reading and learning from people like them! Thank you for watching me try to figure my life out ♥️
The dress is stunning 😍 hope your feeling better soon x
I am! Thank you ♥️
Hey Drew have you ever watched Kittenish Behavior? She has lots of fitting videos and she uses bias tape for finishing her seams. I have learned a lot from her! She has tons of videos on RUclips.
I do watch her a lot! I mainly love her chatty videos!
Beautiful
Nice job. Way to power through.
Beautiful dress and you look fantastic in it!
Thank you so much!
It's beautiful! You did a great job. Definitely making me want to do this pattern myself.
You should! I think it can be done in a day or two!
Turned out great, thanks for inspiring me yet again!
You are so welcome! That makes me so happy!
That is so pretty!
You can either put velcro in place of the zipper or have someone help hold/pin it for you.
love it, turned out really pretty.
it looks wonderful, and I love that fabric :)
Thank you! 😊
