Chennai Raipur Full Journey: Tamil Nadu to Chhattisgarh via Telengana and Maharashtra

- Presenting the highlights from a trip from Chennai to Raipur aboard the Chennai Bilaspur Express. The train takes 21 hours to cover 1,300 kilometres between the capitals of Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh, traveling through the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telengana and Maharashtra.
A unique feature of this train is that it is hauled by diesel power end-to-end, even though only 250 km of the train's route is through unelectrified territory between Balharshah and Gondia. This is due to the fact that being a weekly train, it is hard to arrange for a pair of locomotives at Balharshah and Gondia and therefore, twin Alcos from Raipur take charge of the train from Bilaspur, take it to Chennai, and return from Chennai that very evening with the same train.
The main highlights of this compilation is a rapid run with the Raipur twin WDM3As through Telengana and Maharashtra; the skipping of Dornakal; a blistering crossing with an Asansol WAM4 with the Ganga Kaveri Express; an overtake by Tamil Nadu Express; crossings with the Secunderabad Duronto and Chennai Garib Rath; and passage through the forest ranges of central India. Finally, the Balharshah Gondia single line section still uses ball tokens and I have attempted to document the token exchange through my photos and videos.

There are only a handful twin-Alco hauled ultra long haul (>24h travel time) trains left. One of them is the majestic 17020 Hyderabad-Jaipur Weekly Express, hauled by twin MLY/KZJ WDM-3A Rebuilt, end-to-end. I intend to do that trip before they switch to WDP4D. With bifurcation of SCR to create SCoR, the residual SCR is left without an EMD shed. There's talk of MLY becoming a new EMD shed. Great video!

interesting you caught up with TN at BPQ, looks like TN was delayed enroute, this section is notorious for freights occupying the main line and passenger trains have to crawl thru loops, was your train on time at BPQ ?
actually the overtake should have happened after Warangal so either TN was before time that it was detained at BPQ for a longer time

Hi Ritadhi da, your caption on entering BPQ reads entering Lallaguda... it should read entering BPQ or Balharshah and catching up with the mighty 12621 (or something like that)... up to you to change...

I think WAP4/7 is smoother but HP-wise, they should be comparable. Acceleration for sure is.

Was waiting for this video since a long time :D splendid work sir :) The WAG5 hauled freight at raipur was the biggest surprise as these Electric hauled freights never pass through the Raipur station, they always bypass it from the outer line. Only the diesel hauled freights from Titilagarh side pass through raipur station. Overall a wonderful coverage :D
