I agree with you about weddings. If you can shoot weddings well. Aunt make a narrative film out of audio and visuals captured on the wedding day or surrounding the wedding weekend, then You can basically branch out into anything else. Filming weddings well is hard.

Thank you for answering my question, really helpful advice! Think I will definitely sell either the M43 or Sony as I really think the S5ii could be a powerhouse for me in the long term

Yeah, I kinda want to have only one system also. I have a G85 and X-T3. Was thinking about getting an X-H2s but started watching all the RUclips AFC issue videos 😂. So of course I went down a GAS rabbit hole of not knowing what to get next.
R6 MKii yeah but not with that micro hdmi or those restrictive lens options.
Z6iii Seems cool but no open gate and it’s a bit expensive.
S5iiX yeah but it’s slow. I dislike slow stuff.
Or just stick with what I have a get some nice lenses.
    Ugh 😅

Being practical is great. I still shoot with a gh4 as backup and gh5 as a main camera. My audio gear though is another story. basically the bane of my existence.

Holyshit is the comics vm30 that good? That's crazy good
EDIT: if you wanna learn davinci resolve as fast as possible, change the key shortcuts to match premiere pro. It will feel exatcly like you're using premiere. The timeline pretty much works almost the exact same way if you get the shortcuts right

I guess that's true if you use premiere keyboard shortcuts in default mode. I customized my premiere keys a certain way, and although cutting feels pretty similar after I set them up in resolve, the experience is just different. Titles, animations, transitions, audio adjustments, not to mention 3rd party plug ins etc, it's just a different experience. And for me at least right now, I'm way faster and efficient in premiere

Hi Nigel great podcast...I am as well split between MFT and L mount with a P6Korg as well but I have 24-105 EF USM F4 glued on it for run and gun docu style.
For me Hard to justify new MFT buy nowadays Wich such lens variety in L mount alliance...

Hey Nigel, I'm currently considering a side-grade from my FX30 to the S5IIX. Would you consider the S5IIX's autofocus to be in a state that's close enough to Sony-level since the update a few months ago? I currently rely heavily on autofocus for mostly event videography, but I keep a close eye on the settings, as even the FX30 struggles with multiple faces in the frame. I also deeply envy the recent Panasonic models having the ability to switch their focus-by-wire lenses to linear.

Hey, funny enough I have considered the opposite haha, I've considered switching to the FX30 from my S5IIX. The AF on the S52X is pretty good, probably like 95% of what you get on Sony. You'll just have to be ready to not have tally lights, slightly worse rolling shutter and for all the lenses to be bigger. Which is why I'm considering the fx30, I want a smaller kit and having lenses like the 18-50 and 10-18 by sigma is really appealing to me.

@@nigelbarrostoo Ooh, fair. The lens size tradeoff could be huge, and I've heard nothing but good things about the Sigma 18-50. You MIGHT miss your assist tools in situations where you don't wanna use your monitor, and low light takes a big hit. Like, UGLY red and green chroma noise if you ever shoot lower than the recommended stop and a half overexposed at ISO 2500. But since you mostly shoot during the day and studio light your interiors (beautifully, I might add), the FX30 might be the move.

I’m in the debate as well but between the A7Cii (and using mostly primes), S5iix or FX30 haha, I was hoping the long awaited successor of the S1H to have been out but it seems like it won’t be the case for 2024 most likely.
The S9 might have pushed me to jump FF and get it with a S5iix (currently have a GH6 and Pocket4k) but the lack of an EVF and mechanical shutter killed it.
Right now my debate lies on whether I can get good enough depth of field with MFT for narrative stuff, gonna shoot a couple of shorts and see if f1.7, f1.4 and f2.8 is really enough.
The more I see online and do tests, it really does seem like Super 35 is the best middle ground when it comes to depth of field equivalence with the wider aperture advantage.
When it comes to photography, unless you need super mega telephoto reach, FF is definitely the way to go.

I went from S5 to FX30 to S5II and I’m gonna go back to the FX30. S5II ain’t bad but much prefer the body style of the FX30 and the S5II has an over sharpening problem that the S5 didn’t have and can only be bypassed shooting in raw. Some S5II’s have this weird audio hiss or beep going on as well (mine did)
Another random annoyance is the boot up time.

I've found using the FX30 to be an absolute blast. I actually use it mostly with those two sigma zooms +a Sony 15mm 1.4 that I got for a steal.
I had the FX30 near the beginning of the year, returned it because it didn't make sense "logically" for me to own. (My needs are more hybrid) However, I kept thinking about my experiences with it for months. Finally rebought it, and I'm so glad I did. It just feels so natural and fun to use.
