  • This build began in Colorado when Tim surprised veteran Paul Kahler with a makeover. He earned a Purple Heart in Iraq, is a Sgt. with Colorado National Guard and studied at night for a degree in counseling. We took Paul's '67 coupe for a hot rod build up!

As a Disabled Vet I can appreciate what you are doing for this soldier. Living on a soldiers pay is mostly very tight on the budget and car restoration is not in that budget. Many Vietnam Vets are still trying to find the money for their cars to be rebuilt to what they had planned while they were in the military.
The Vets who are disabled but so not look like it are often the first to get laid off when a crisis happens and the company they are working for downsizes. These are the ones that still need help. Most of them are still treated as trash in this society and they just keep trying to provide and keep living. Many of us Vietnam Veterans have finally given up and committed suicide because of the way the "society" still views us and treats us.

How I would love to fix up either of my mom's mustangs, or any of the antique cars my parents have on their property. All might be beyond repair though. My mom lives in a home now, because we couldn't care well enough for her at home. I moved my parents in years ago. Rick and Ricki, both retired Air Force. My daughter plans on changing her name to Rickie, so there would be 3. She will be with me. She is autistic. Just the sweetest child, at 23. I love what you are doing. It really touched my heart.

I think it is mostly to give the primer (epoxy primer maybe) some roughness to stick too...and they may skim coat the whole thing with body filler..then sand and primer and paint. After they block sand, with long sanding blocks, the car looks very straight afterwards.

I need help with my 68 mustang! A short back story of my build.
My best friend took his own life when we were 19 years old, the summer after we graduated high school. He constantly talked about always wanting a late 60s mustang when we were growing up. (My best friends name was Austin Mathews Fitzpatrick he was born January 19th 1997 and died by suicide July 10th 2016.. Rest In Peace)
I daily drive a mustang GT in his honor, but my true dream has always been to get a classic for him. He always said he wanted an all black late 60s “fastback” which I didn’t know what he meant by that at the time. So I recently purchased a car in pretty medium shape; it’s a 1968 coupe that needs some love but I’ve been wanting to restore it for my best friend and live the dream he never got to. I’m 25 years old and don’t make a huge amount of money, so I have been planning on doing a lot of the work myself but after seeing this series the process is now seeming like a very daunting, time consuming, and expensive undertaking! I don’t want to regret getting this car but my other good friends dad growing up has owned it since 99, we used to ride around in it as kids. He’s gotten too old and sick to deal with the car and offered me a deal I couldn’t refuse. It was the perfect start for my build as our two dreams intersected, and it’s been sitting in his yard rusting. Every time I’ve been over there we wrench on it or I tried to cover it with a tarp at least last time I was there as a teen and it stayed that way for a few years. I really want to restore it but I may have to sell it due to cost… I guess we’ll see where God takes my project. Fantastic video guys, well done.

You have to understand that they are replacing 90% of all that stuff, so it doesn’t matter if they are rough when disassembling because its not going back on the car. If they were working with irreplaceable parts that have to go back on they would be way more delicate im sure.

unlikewise ok, thats true and all. But also when you’re leveling a tall building , they dont care about the damage the explosives do or the damage the falling building causes, they’re starting over from scratch and saves so much more time in disassembly. you can fix small issues you may have caused later because of all the time you just saved. Its just a faster and more productive way to work when you are tackling a huge project.

She still sits in the back yard rusting away little by little. With my bad knee and bad back both of which the VA denied me for, finding a good paying job in this small town is next to impossible. Nothing but manual labor jobs here all of which I can no longer do. Sad thing is I know how to rebuild her, I know every nut and bolt on that car, but lack the funds, proper garage, and functioning body to actually do it.
