If the LEO's primary function is traffic enforcement, then they must be in a marked and recognizable police vehicle. If stopped by an unmarked vehicle, you have the right to request a marked/black & white vehicle to the scene, that is for your safety if you feel the unmarked vehicle is not an actual Law Enforcement vehicle.

And since he was gaining on that third car, he's under no obligation to move out of the Honda's way. So I guess he WAS using the left lane for "fucking passing." He just wasn't going fast enough to suit the entitled driver of the Honda.
There's two ways to look at this. The first way is that the driver of the red car shouldn't have been tailgating the Impala. The second way is that the cop in the Impala shouldn't have been cruising in the left lane to begin with. In California there are signs that say slower traffic should stay in the right lane, It isn't illegal and you can't get a ticket for driving in the left lane BUT! You can get a ticket for obstructing traffic even if you are going the speed limit. One here in California can also get a ticket on a one lane road if you have more than 5 cars behind you, it is required you pull over when it is safe and let them pass.

Whichever lane is for passing in your country, I believe there’s a speed limit too. Doesn’t mean that if you’re faster than the person in front of you, you have the right to pass if the person in front of you is following the speed limit and you’re not.
I've noticed that all of the rule breakers are justifying the fact that they are going over the limit illegally by placing the blame on people who are going the speed limit or ten percent over. Somehow going the posted speed LIMIT is the problem and not everyone else who disregards the signs and refuses to maintain the flow of traffic by creating their own flow and insist everyone else needs to go at their speed but behind them. Why are people saying the cop is in the wrong? The cop is driving faster than the right lane of traffic so he's not blocking anyone. The tailgater can pass if he is patient and waits a few seconds for more room which eventually happens anyways. No one is legally obliged to move out your way, unless of course you are driving an ambulance/emergency vehicle. It baffles and terrifies me how so many people think that it is ok to tailgate and put everyone around in danger. Let's say the cop was breaking the law(which he definitively isn't), the tailgater is by default causing a bigger safety hazard. If a deer runs in front of the cop, likely all 3 cars on video would wreck and everyone behind them is in danger too. Tailgating is absolutely indefensible in all situations.
The left lane is for passing. In most states it is against the law to be in the left lane unless passing or making a left in a reasonable amount of time. The law is to reduce road rage. Many self appointed speed control officers should take heed of the law.

I did something like that. I was on a freeway doing 100 mph. I saw a cop car entering the freeway as I passed it. I slowed to 70 immediately. The cop car entered the freeway behind me & then slowly passed me as if to say 'Do that again Boy & you're off to jail!'

When every other car used to have a radar detector and run 20+ mph over the speed limit, my son and I used to play with a baseball radar gun on trips and another radar device that emitted X-band radar like grocery store automatic doors do. We’d see them pass us fly by and get several hundred yards ahead, then we’d push the button, and watch for the brake lights. Then we’d pass them and wait for it to start again. We did it to one guy 3 times until he caught on and saw us laughing. Once after we did it, there really was radar and someone really did get caught. SEE? We tried to warn you!

I passed a random red car sitting in the middle of the interstate one day in the grassy area, I was in a pack of cars and we are all speeding (5 over turned into 10 over, then 15 over, you know how guys can get). Didn't pay him any attention. Same red car with a bunch of marked cop cars zoom past and start pulling left and right. The red car pulled over a car in front of me. (he was going faster than me) This red car had bumper stickers that made it look legit, proud honor roll student stickers, window decals it was... you couldn't tell it was a cop car (no tint, no white, black or grey vehicle, no cop brands) That was the only time an unmarked cop looked truly undercover. Not all unmarked cars are obvious. Stay safe.

I actually saw this happen here in Melbourne, Aussie. There was a Turbo Ford Falcon cruising along the freeway in the right lane in peak traffic, when another Turbo Ford Falcon comes flying up behind him swerving & flashing his lights. The front Falcon suddenly turns on the red & blues. Well the Falcon following hit the brakes so hard to back off I'm sure the ABS kicked in. I was in the second too right lane and slowly cruised past the unmarked cop car. We just looked at each other and we both burst out laughing. lol
In texas it's law to yield to faster traffic in the left lane. If that cop wasn't a cop, he would have been pulled over. It's much more dangerous for faster cars to maneuver around the slower ones. yrs ago, Sunday night about 11:30 pm, coming through Conn. headed home to RI from Dover NASCAR race....cruising east on rt. 95, doing about 85 mph in my Ford extended body super duty van, car in front of me doing about 87-88, slightly pulling away....we the only 2 cars on road....notice headlights coming up behind me, gaining.....when about 100 yrds away, notice this little red and blue glow (they have a low wattage bulb in lt bar, just slightly illuminates) OH CRAP !!!!!!! that's a cop.....use my directional, change lanes, BEFORE the cop got right up on me.....he drives right by me....wow.....he catches up to car in front, same thing, used directional, moves over...cop drives right by him......don't know why, but we were lucky

My daughter went to FSU. When she didn't have a car I would pick her up in the late afternoon to bring her the 200 miles east when she needed to come home. Twenty eight years ago there wasn't much traffic from Lake City to Stark. I liked to drive in the dark but one night a car stayed on my tail with the lights in my mirror. I slowed down, they didn't pass. I floored it, they kept pace. It dawned on me it was a cop. I slowed to the speed limit. He followed me for almost 40 miles, through Live Oak to a big service station on the other side where he turned around and I could see that it was in fact a cop.

And in most jurisdictions, most vendors or manufacturers of such equipment will be in violation of the law if they sell it to private (non-law enforcement) citizens.
This is Connecticut and it's not illegal to buy those lights. In fact Whelen which is the manufacturer for most police lights is based just 15 miles south down this very highway (exit 6 instead of exit 19 where this video was shot), and anyone can walk in and buy lights. You obviously need a permit to operate those lights, but there's nothing illegal about owning them, and I think if the lights only face the rear you can do whatever you want. There was a volunteer fireman that lived next door and they all have permits to have blue lights, and he had red ones facing the back for which he had no permit and he said you could do that as long as it didn't face the front.

Over here; when the speed limit is 100KPH and more drivers, when not overtaking anyone, have to keep to the left or they will be fined. Why didn't the cop car move over to the right hand lane? If you had a similar rule then the cop is at fault. Or was he bating the car behind to overtake using the other lane which is a no no here as well. Do you have a similar rule in the states.
As is the case in the vast majority of these videos, you have someone in the passing lane who should not be in the passing lane. I saw a news story from one of the states where they did a study and found that most "road rage" incidents were instigated by slow pokes impeding traffic in the passing lane so the state troopers started handing out tickets to those people.

Whichever lane is for passing in your country, I believe there’s a speed limit too. Doesn’t mean that if you’re faster than the person in front of you, you have the right to pass if the person in front of you is following the speed limit and you’re not.
I've noticed that all of the rule breakers are justifying the fact that they are going over the limit illegally by placing the blame on people who are going the speed limit or ten percent over. Somehow going the posted speed LIMIT is the problem and not everyone else who disregards the signs and refuses to maintain the flow of traffic by creating their own flow and insist everyone else needs to go at their speed but behind them. Just because someone lacks reading comprehension or critical thinking doesn't make everyone else the problem.

This is why America is the laughing stock of highways. You don’t dictate what speed others go and you don’t own the left lane. This is why the autobahn is not only safer per mile and per 100,000 people driving but also more responsible, less of an idiot like americans and overall just not stupid.
Don't forget there may be a reason someone is speeding for a reason, like getting someone to hospital. No need to speed yourself, just get out of there way at the first opportunity. It's their and the police's problem. (though a ricer honda with a big wing is a bit different lol)
Why are people saying the cop is in the wrong? The cop is driving faster than the right lane of traffic so he's not blocking anyone. The tailgater can pass if he is patient and waits a few seconds for more room which eventually happens anyways. No one is legally obliged to move out your way, unless of course you are driving an ambulance/emergency vehicle. It baffles and terrifies me how so many people think that it is ok to tailgate and put everyone around in danger. Let's say the cop was breaking the law(which he definitively isn't), the tailgater is by default causing a bigger safety hazard. If a deer runs in front of the cop, likely all 3 cars on video would wreck and everyone behind them is in danger too. Tailgating is absolutely indefensible in all situations.
The left lane is for passing. In most states it is against the law to be in the left lane unless passing or making a left in a reasonable amount of time. The law is to reduce road rage. Many self appointed speed control officers should take heed of the law.

I did something like that. I was on a freeway doing 100 mph. I saw a cop car entering the freeway as I passed it. I slowed to 70 immediately. The cop car entered the freeway behind me & then slowly passed me as if to say 'Do that again Boy & you're off to jail!'

When every other car used to have a radar detector and run 20+ mph over the speed limit, my son and I used to play with a baseball radar gun on trips and another radar device that emitted X-band radar like grocery store automatic doors do. We’d see them pass us fly by and get several hundred yards ahead, then we’d push the button, and watch for the brake lights. Then we’d pass them and wait for it to start again. We did it to one guy 3 times until he caught on and saw us laughing. Once after we did it, there really was radar and someone really did get caught. SEE? We tried to warn you!

I passed a random red car sitting in the middle of the interstate one day in the grassy area, I was in a pack of cars and we are all speeding (5 over turned into 10 over, then 15 over, you know how guys can get). Didn't pay him any attention.
Same red car with a bunch of marked cop cars zoom past and start pulling left and right. The red car pulled over a car in front of me. (he was going faster than me)
This red car had bumper stickers that made it look legit, proud honor roll student stickers, window decals it was... you couldn't tell it was a cop car (no tint, no white, black or grey vehicle, no cop brands)
That was the only time an unmarked cop looked truly undercover.

In some states the cop would be at fault. I know in my state you are required to move over if approached from behind by faster car in left lane, regardless of speed or speed limit. Of course, he could let him go by and then ticket him

I actually saw this happen here in Melbourne, Aussie. There was a Turbo Ford Falcon cruising along the freeway in the right lane in peak traffic, when another Turbo Ford Falcon comes flying up behind him swerving & flashing his lights. The front Falcon suddenly turns on the red & blues. Well the Falcon following hit the brakes so hard to back off I'm sure the ABS kicked in. I was in the second too right lane and slowly cruised past the unmarked cop car. We just looked at each other and we both burst out laughing. lol

In texas it's law to yield to faster traffic in the left lane. If that cop wasn't a cop, he would have been pulled over. It's much more dangerous for faster cars to maneuver around the slower ones. yrs ago, Sunday night about 11:30 pm, coming through Conn. headed home to RI from Dover NASCAR race....cruising east on rt. 95, doing about 85 mph in my Ford extended body super duty van, car in front of me doing about 87-88, slightly pulling away....we the only 2 cars on road....notice headlights coming up behind me, gaining.....when about 100 yrds away, notice this little red and blue glow (they have a low wattage bulb in lt bar, just slightly illuminates)
OH CRAP !!!!!!! that's a cop.....use my directional, change lanes, BEFORE the cop got right up on me.....he drives right by me....wow.....he catches up to car in front, same thing, used directional, moves over...cop drives right by him......don't know why, but we were lucky

My daughter went to FSU. When she didn't have a car I would pick her up in the late afternoon to bring her the 200 miles east when she needed to come home. Twenty eight years ago there wasn't much traffic from Lake City to Stark. I liked to drive in the dark but one night a car stayed on my tail with the lights in my mirror. I slowed down, they didn't pass. I floored it, they kept pace. It dawned on me it was a cop. I slowed to the speed limit. He followed me for almost 40 miles, through Live Oak to a big service station on the other side where he turned around and I could see that it was in fact a cop.
In most jurisdictions it is unlawful for non-law enforcement (private citizens) to install current, authorized, law enforcement-sanctioned lighting onto their vehicles (part of "impersonating a law enforcement officer"). And in most jurisdictions, most vendors or manufacturers of such equipment will be in violation of the law if they sell it to private (non-law enforcement) citizens.
This is Connecticut and it's not illegal to buy those lights. In fact Whelen which is the manufacturer for most police lights is based just 15 miles south down this very highway (exit 6 instead of exit 19 where this video was shot), and anyone can walk in and buy lights. You obviously need a permit to operate those lights, but there's nothing illegal about owning them, and I think if the lights only face the rear you can do whatever you want. There was a volunteer fireman that lived next door and they all have permits to have blue lights, and he had red ones facing the back for which he had no permit and he said you could do that as long as it didn't face the front.
There's a vegetable stand near my house that has a rack of blue lights next to the highway.

Over here; when the speed limit is 100KPH and more drivers, when not overtaking anyone, have to keep to the left or they will be fined. Why didn't the cop car move over to the right hand lane? If you had a similar rule then the cop is at fault. Or was he bating the car behind to overtake using the other lane which is a no no here as well. Do you have a similar rule in the states.
Yes, we have same laws, but unheard of enforcing them. And quite often even cops in marked cars violate them.
As is the case in the vast majority of these videos, you have someone in the passing lane who should not be in the passing lane. I saw a news story from one of the states where they did a study and found that most "road rage" incidents were instigated by slow pokes impeding traffic in the passing lane so the state troopers started handing out tickets to those people.

they know it's going to happen, but they can't exactly legalise speeding, so they make it a law that you must NOT be in the passing lane unless you are passing someone, otherwise you will get road rage incidents and accidents.
stop being a know-it-all, it helps no one. you can drive the "correct" (often unreasonably low) speed limit, but i hope that's a comfort to you when you cause an accident by insisting on being right, perhaps from your hospital bed you can reflect how you were in the right, and the other guy is wrong, even if it cost you the use of your legs, or a loved one in the passenger seat.
