Tip, if you are doing this, be careful not to sweat too much, and if you are feeling hot, take off an insulating layer, as the sweat can soak your underlayers and sock and make it MUCH colder once you stop working.
Speaking as someone who was in the military here in Finland. Sometimes stuff happens and your underlayers get soaked. Whether it's combat or coming into camp late and needing it ready before dark. You'll just have to sweat without limits. The actual trick is to always have a dry underlayer ready to change into.
I live in one of the coldest parts of the US (and I have done some winter camping)… but this advice goes for just being out in the cold in general, not just in camping situations 👍
Canadian here. -10 degrees Celsius is literally nothing, you'll be totally fine if you're not stupid. -10F, about -23C, is not bad if you prepare well. -Climbers can get to -30 to -50 Celsius easily and be fine.
You should not try this if youre new to these kinds of environments, it can be extremely dangerous to sleep in snow tunnels in case they collapse, it’s fun though I advise you to take precautions❤ stay safe

if f its -23°C edit (i should probably explain for the ppl who legit just know F as american only and nothing else):imperial freezing point is 32°F meaning anything at 0 is already 32° *below* freezing, even if a degree change in celsius is larger, until around -40 where they meet, negative fahrenheit is colder
In the Finnish military during winter training we were always told it's better to be slightly cold when moving around, because even a bit of sweat can ruin a layer of clothes that'll need to be taken off and dried when no longer on the move. Otherwise it'll just freeze on you and prevent you from warming up. Talking about somewhat colder temps though, something like -20 °C days and -30 °C nights
Few things he shouldve done, make the bed entrance at a corner, if it along the stairs, wind can enter easier, the bed needs to be at least 12 inches above the floor cause cold can sit there, last, the bed needs 5-6 inches more room to make the cold walls dont touch, hence his toes getting cold
Take a candle with u big one then poke a hole above the candle all the way to the top that way it keeps u warm and u won't inhale the Exhaust I dit it in - 40 in northern Canada it works like a charm

If you ever get caught in a avalanche, dig about 5-10 inches in front of you and see what direction your spit goes, if your spit drops dig behind you and if your spit on yourself keep digging in front of you
Haha I remember hearing about those ‘survival tricks’ growing up. I’m now an avalanche instructor and apprentice mountain guide, I assure you that you cannot dig yourself out of an avalanche if fully buried.
@@n0pe213 living in upstate new york we use to get a lot of snow like 3-4 feet over night so one time i went sledding and this happened to me thankfully i had someone to teach me this growing up
I tent camped before during the winter (I was a Girl Scout at the time) and toes also felt like they were freezing off during the night. So on the second night I shoved a hand warmer in my socks and once I returned home from camp I had a giant golf ball sized blister on my foot from being burned by the hand warmer, still got the scar to this day
ngl I slept in -14 and it wasn't that bad. It helps to have a "door" and definitely helps if you almost boil water before bed and toss it in your bag. The heat will radiate and keep the bag TOASTY.
No mountain lions were likely present in that area. Thick snow covers herbivore food, meaning they have no business being there, so predators follow. You're more likely to encounter them in the valley below the mountain
I once went to New Mexico to hike at philmont scout ranch and before we went there we stayed somewhere else and at night me and my dad encountered a smaller mountain lion and let me tell you that it was not backing off

Plus feeling hot and sweating could be hypothermia

But always make sure you only do this, if it wasn’t proceeded by extreme coldness as it could be hypothermia. (Specifically, paradoxical undressing)

its “crev-iss” american, british any accent for english has that way as the correct pronunciation
Crevasse is different than a crev ass. A crevasse is normal to do with rock and other small openings and a crev ass is to do with snow
