Although this place was on my list for a while, my first time here didn't go quite as expected. The highs & lows is what really made the journey so I can't really complain too much. Thanks for coming along!
That trail has some amazing history to it. I am a historian with a local historical society. The flumes were built after the low grade lane was built because the water coming down the cut would freeze up and block the lower tracks. The old foundations in the river date back to when they dredged coal dust from behind the dam. The railroad grade at shenks ferry went beyond the spot that you stopped at to an iron mine that supplied the furnace at safe harbor village. I would be glad to answer any questions you may have about the railroad history of the area along the Enola Low Grade Line and Columbia area. Thanks for sharing the video
That was an amazing ride, despite a few troubles. Loved the tunnels and the views. That was a long ride. Thanks for taking us along. I'm worn out. Need a nap now. LOL
They are several ways to join a tour of the Safe Harbor plant. It is incredible and the workers there will answer your questions.., and someone like you ..., you WILL have questions. Great vid, thank you.
Hey Jay! I enjoyed this amazing adventure!!! It was lots of fun!!! Beautiful views along the way 💙💙 Thank you for letting me tag along!!! I enjoyed seeing the awesome & beautiful montage 💙💙 God bless you, keep you healthy and safe 🙏❤️🙏
That is the biggest tunnel you found so far, JP, I think it's amazing looking. And it sure is strange that those bugs are all over that resting area. That giant trussell is amazing looking. It's a great view of it, too, JP👍👍👍
Thank you for taking the time to pause on the information plaques. I really enjoy reading those when I get to visit historic sites. Also, one reason for seeing large numbers of birds over the trail area by the cliffs could be that the birds are using the updrafts that occur in such areas to help raise their soaring altitude without having to expend extra energy.
What an amazing explore with such magnificent views. Your adventure ended up being like my do it yourself projects. I see what looks like three hours and end up being 10. Really enjoyed coming along and was grateful for the invite. Until the next great adventure, stay safe and God bless. Steve in Oklahoma
Even though you had a few difficulties, you had an amazing adventure. I love how you guys always have a great time together. It is such a fascinating and beautiful place to explore! Awesome video, thank you JP!
A couple of minutes in & you hit my four favorites! Color me excited. Rivers, my favorite body of water, trains my favorite way of transportation. Add rocks, I have collected rocks from everywhere I’ve been in the world. Add trees, greenery flowers & it’s paradise.
Quite an interesting adventure, Jay! Plenty of gems along the way and some great views on a gorgeous day, despite a few glitches. Loved the little waterfalls at Mann's Run, and glad you got to explore some tunnel culverts, too. I hope you can catch next year's tour of the Safe Harbor Dam, that would be cool! It would be really great to see some petroglyphs, if you make it to the islands. Really nice signage along the way and especially loved the Peregrine Falcon sign. Those birds are the fastest in the world with clocked dive speeds of over 200 miles an hour. Awesome photo montage at the end! Thanks so much for bringing us along!💙💙
Thanks for the adventure. Great scenery. Been through the area by car but never the way you did. Thanks for sharing. Glad you all survived. Love your e-bike videos. Stay safe as you continue to share your journey.
Quite an interesting day. All of those trails must be relatively new as I don’t remember hearing of anything like them when I’d lived in the area. Moved away from York in ‘82… Thank you for sharing.
All cabooses should be red, just sayin.....loll Why is one called a trestle and the other called a bridge? That is quite the river. I would love to see you out on it in whatever mode of transportation you have or can borrow. Love your photo montage. You took your bikes of those stairs...That's crazy. Beautiful beautiful ride and very adventurous. Thank you for sharing it with me.
Believe it or not, the old PRR 138kv feeder wires above that trail are still active. It’s used to take 25hz power from Safe Harbor damn to feed the Harrisburg end of the keystone corridor. It goes eat East too from Safe Harbor to Perryville and Glen. And yes GG1s did once run where you biked.
Jp even though it did not go as you planned it. You still made a fantastic video. And had a great time with friends and seeing what is around the next corner. And I love when you add humor to your video’s, thank you for bringing us along for the adventure. And what was it with the stink bugs, we had the same problem like three year’s ago. Where they were everywhere. And I kept finding them in my house. And they took a trip along with the other bugs and spiders down the toilet. Lol
At 34:37 ... I've seen a whole video on a guy searching for this culvert, he called it "the hall of the mountain king" :D He also found some more culverts along the way. Sadly I don't remember the channel name anymore because it's been too long Edit: Used the youtube search and found it again. It's from The wandering woodsman and called ""The Hall of the Mountain King" ~ Culvert Hunting along the Enola Low Grade Trail, Lancaster PA"
With the dam being built down stream over Susquehanna River I was watching a video that states PRR in part used the dam to draw electricity to power trains when they were electrified.
Those tunnels, look like old railroad culverts put in and designed to keep water from washing out the track bed above. They are crosswise to the old rail trail you guys are biking on. They look just like railroad tunnels, but I'll just about guarantee they were not for trains. We have some very similar ones on the old original transcontinental route on the Sierras. Now if you slip me some google map details on the abandoned structure video, I'll keep slipping you some info from the west coast. Deal? lol
That giant tunnel where you guys split up was the way to Shenk's Ferry. I made the same mistake but in reverse! I ended up at the dead end at the house too and took the roads to Shenk's. I was trying to get to the trail from Conestoga. I ended up going under the tunnel and into the Historic Site, which wasn't open at 4am for some reason! I mistakenly got past and down to a railroad thinking it was the trail. I had to ride the access road next to rhe railroad into Pequea. Made it to The Pinnacle Overlook and killed my rental ebike battery! It was worth it for the view! Never got to ride any of Enola Low Grade Trail like I planned! 😂
Love your videos and the places you travel to but all these electrics make me laugh. So much for getting a good workout with these bikes, might as well open these areas up to small motorized motorcycles and scooters as well.
🤔 Mighty Susquehanna River, man made Lake Clarke and Lake Alred more like it. Just something about damming up a wild river just kind of takes its mighty out of it if you ask me. Maybe someday you'll get out my way and see the mighty Mississippi River. Again it's not so mighty with it's locks and dams in place these days. I wish I could have seen them two hundred years ago... I do hope you go back to this area sometime. Would like to see more. Like the native american rock art. Imagine some of those culverts were train tunnels going down to the lower main track that is still active. Those big culver shoots in the thumbnail, are more like aquaducts, I would say over top of the active main line. There are going over instead of under. Can you imagine after a big rain storm, bet that must be like a huge water spout coming out, like a huge waterfall. I imagine those old ship pears would have been for building the damn itself most likely.

In the last decade or two there's been many trails opening up.
Just South of the trail, a Beautiful place to view the Susquehanna is Holtwood's Pinnacle Overlook - an awesome view.

Yes, I couldn't think of the word.

Good possibility
Put away a bag of that freeze dried fried rice meal until 2052, then review it. That bag will definitely be fresher than me by 2052.

Great video
Thanks!
It’s a good day for a hike
What e-bike do you use when your out on these trails ? I couldn’t make out which one you said at beginning.
This one is the Engwe Engine Pro. I made a review video on it in the past.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but there are remnants of a train wreck down over the bank a few miles from Shenk’s Ferry along the Enola trail.
If you have exact location, please email me or fb message me. Links in description.
I sent you a message on fb.
8:50 thanks for the math lesson.
One of the things that I’d like to know is where you get on and where you park
I showed in the video where we parked which is the Turkey Hill nature preserve.
Stairs the arch enemy of bikes

Do you have any recommendations for an e-bike brand ?

Hopefully matt pg gets a real ebike
You know you can use your cell phone to find out angles of them tunnels

Yea that trail has signs that say no motor vehicle. Witch electric is a motor. And that damn area there are signs no drone flying. Lol rebels 😂
That's referring to combustion motors. We confirmed ebikes are 100% allowed here. If not, there were hundreds of rebels lol
@JPVideos81 I'm not being a Ken just giving info lol .
That's right in my back yard I've bin there fishing but never explored the damn area.
There are no signs anywhere along the trail in the area of the dam that say no drones. The only signs that are posted are at the bottom of the trestle.
No way I am riding far on a trail with a scooter. At least a bike can be pedaled back if the battery goes bad
7-8 mileage each way? Tons of scooters can go that far, my electric longboard will just squeeze out 15 miles
