Wonderful performance of one of the most serene works ever composed by an American. Bravo!

Never met anyone who didn't enjoy this wonderful symphony. It should be played more often.

Although the classic Fritz Reiner Chicago Symphony Orchestra's rendition is definitive, Russell and the APU Symphony turn in a very deep and moving performance. I especially like the strong, impactful timpani, the soaring brass and the searching strings that uncovered many little moments that I had not heard before in any other performance. The final movement, here so reverently offered, is like a mysterious prayer coming in from another dimension. I wish this orchestra and the Azusa choir could perform Hovhaness' Praise the Lord with Psaltery, one of his epic pieces of sacred choral music. Leopold Stokowski once recorded it. It begins with majestic bells. THANK YOU so much for this blessing of a wonderful rendition of one of the 20th century orchestral classics.

I've been in love with this piece since I heard it as a teenager. So happy to find this incredible live performance on youtube. Many thanks to the Azusa Pacific Symphony. Keep up the good work.

Yes, in the Allegro vivo especially, reminds me of Vaughan Williams' 'Fantasia on a theme by Thomas Tallis'. Just 'found' Hovaness, great stuff.
