    Random fact:
A British rock band named Queen has their symbol based on the coat of arms, they switched up the animals on the coat of arms to their zodiac signs.
2 Lions for Roger (drummer) and John (bassist) for Leo
2 fairies for Freddie (lead singer and pianist) for Virgo
And they switched the crown into a crab for Brian (guitarist) for Cancer.
And they changed the emblems into a letter Q for Queen

    • @kitnal4143
      @kitnal4143 Год назад +6

@Truth Before Opinions Welsh people are still British (as much as Scottish and English 😂). Culturally all three are ad unique as eachother, with Scotland and Wales sharing quite a bit thanks to their celtic routes (also Cornwall but we don't talk about them).
Brits = England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland. Although all of those countries would rather be called by their defined names (English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish) to different degrees.

The white two thirds represents (according to World Atlas) Peace and Honesty, the red bottom third can be interpreted as the blood shed for those who fought for Gibraltar and the castle and key represents its strategic location at the point where the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean meet

You didn't quite nail the explanation of the design of the flag. The St Patrick's cross isn't shrunk, it is split half and half with the Scottish saltire in a pinwheel layout (ie white on the clockwise side, red on the anticlockwise side) but then a white border is added on both sides to comply with the heraldic rules of tincture. Ok maybe I didn't explain it any better, it's a little complicated.

“Dieu et mon droit” translates to “God and my right”, not “God is my right”. Since the British coat of arms is also the personal Royal Arms of the Monarch, I believe it’s referring to the ancient belief of the Divine Right of Kings, where the Monarch is the Monarch because God said so.

From Wikipedia: The motto is French for "God and my right", meaning that the king is "Rex Angliae Dei gratia" ("King of England by the grace of God"). It is used to imply that the monarch of a nation has a God-given (divine) right to rule.

Few mistakes: it's Louis Le (he) Prince and not Louis La (she) Prince ; “Dieu Et Mon Droit” means “God AND My Right” (not “God Is My Right”), otherwise, still rocking since next to 10 years now!
Sorry, but yes, I still watch Flag/Fan Day ! 😅

Before you get to the U.S. episode, check out how to pronounce the various regions of the country. Appalachia is pronounced: App-a-lah-cha. 'Cha' as in 'chariot' and 'chase'. Just trying to save you some (any?) backlash from the natives of the region.

you can live in a country at the start of the alphabet, and you will get a Geography now episode very fast but it will be kinda lame
you can live in a country at the end of the alphabet, and you will have to wait a LOOONG time to get a Geography now episode but it will be super awesome

Excellent job, just one note on Scottish education. We don't do GCSEs and A levels as Scotland have a completely independent or 'devolved' education system.
Healthcare, town planning and the legal system are also devolved.
Again, great job. This was a mammoth episode!

Just one mistake Barbs I've just realised upon rewatching the episode as a Brit which I don't know if anybody else has mentioned but unfortunately it's an important one. Wales doesn't have a Parliament. It has an Assembly. I actually went to visit it in Cardiff one holiday. That should have been well-known information to include in the Political Geography section whereas Scotland does have an official Parliament. I don't remember Northern Ireland's position there nor have I visited it yet but anyway, needed to add my two cents there right now.
