- Stanley Clarke’s bass-playing, showing exceptional skill on both acoustic and electric bass, has made him one of the most influential players in modern jazz history. In addition to his solo career, Clarke, as a founding member of the legendary jazz-rock fusion band Return to Forever, has helped redefine the sound of jazz over the last 50 years. Return to Forever-Clarke with fellow seminal members Chick Corea, Lenny White, and Al Di Meola-would become one of the most popular jazz bands of its day, pulling fans from the rock world to achieve commercial success. As part of his strong belief in giving back, he also established the Stanley Clarke Foundation, a charitable organization which awards scholarships to talented young musicians each year.

Congratulations to Mr. Clarke. He is truly an official national treasure.
Gotta love Stanley... a true well of knowledge and inspiration.
What a precious interview. Hats off to Stanley Clarke!
I love listening to Stanley speak. His eloquence is so calm and relaxing. And his knowledge is inspiring.
Never forget the first time I heard Return To Forever - just mindblowing!
One of my jazz heroes, Stanley and George Duke cut a diamond class swathe through the jazz rock/funk scene of the early 80s. For me they seemed a cut above the rest of their peers in the Jazz Funk genre, many of their beautifully composed songs just linger in my head for an eternity. Most fans know of Chick Corea and Stanley Clarkes legendary RTF work in the 1970s. But for me I the Duke & Clarke project of the early 80s is one of the most underrated albums of any genre of all time. It’s been in my possession since it was released in 1981/82. My son will inherit it one day, I hope he grows to love it and cherishes it as much as I have the last 40+ years.
NOBODY sounds like George Duke ! George Duke and Stanley Clarke together on the Journey to Love album is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Period.
One of my heroes since I was a young adolecent. Started playing bass inspired by him. But his tone, his choice of notes...
Stanley will forever be my hero on bass, a true master who defined a great part of the instrument.
A very sweet and down to earth interview. An amazing musician and a sweet guy. So glad we have his recorded music to pass down to generations of music lovers.
to me he's the greatest EVER
Stanley Clarke, in my mind, is the greatest bassist in history and is the main reason why I started playing bass!!!! He makes it looks waaaaay easier than it really is because he spent countless hours practicing and studying!!!
Stanley Clarke is brilliant!
I love that you don't define yourself as a style of music but it seems to me that you have been define by your friendships and that is a beautiful thing as your friendships have been historic.
Why does Stanley keep getting younger? Beautiful playing as always.
excellence..
