All Pro Songwriters Use This Chord Move (don’t be the one who doesn’t!)

    In this lesson, I’m going to show you a chord move that all the pro songwriters and composers are using.
    If you’re not using this principle yet, it’s going to make a big positive difference in your chord progressions once you apply it!
    This move is called: the deceptive cadence.
    It’s when the note of your melody resolves where it is expected, but the chord underneath doesn’t. It resolves on another chord that works, but that isn’t the obvious choice.
    Doing that allows you to gain forward momentum in your song, make a song that is not too predictable and have chord progressions that just flow nicer.
    We are going to test a few deceptive cadence options in this lesson on top of the main melody to find out which chords can replace common chord progressions.
    I’m also going to show you a suprising example using a chord outside the key!
    Hope you will enjoy this small lesson :-)

    Across all these advanced-but made-simple videos over the past few months, it’s become apparent Antoine is probably the most informative teacher online.

    Really great. Progression variations over a stable melody always add depth, and interest, and that modulation on the F is beautiful. Very radioheadish. They do a lot of modulation and chord substitution stuff that keeps things interesting, without becoming disruptive. Thanks a lot.

    Due absolutely to this sort of excellent insider information, I can say for sure that I will play my first full set on guitar in 2022. This will be a landmark of monumental significance for me.

    I've been writing songs since the 70's You've explained these concepts brilliantly with very clear musical examples. One reason a lot of modern music is so boring is that they are NOT doing these types of musical moves and just hammer 2, 3 or 4 chords endlessly. Well done, sir!!

    I am very interested in how to play rhythm on an electric guitar. This is my eternal problem. Because I was taught to play acoustic guitar not very good rhythms. And this habit passed on to the electric guitar. It sounds terrible at times!

    I love that - thanks so much. If you have time can you help me? I am getting the Strymon Iridium and I need to get a few pedals - put them in the right order - Strymon pedals unless you see it differently. if you could have the Iridium and 3 pedals and played YOUR kind of music which would you choose? The ambient sound yes but I also rock out a bit. Thanks

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  2 года назад

      Probably sure I would get the Strymon Timeline and Strymon BigSky to get the most options with delay and reverb, and then probably the Strymon Sunset if you want to rock from time to time. That would be my 3!

    • @AntoineMichaudGuitar
      @AntoineMichaudGuitar  2 года назад

      Order would be Sunset > Timeline > BigSky > Iridium

      Honestly, the difference is subtle... no right or wrong answer. After using it for a while, I think I ended prefering at the end of the chain. I tested different placements + mono/stereo in this video, you can watch this video to learn more: ruclips.net/video/lbg3RWyib0o/видео.html

    Yay, first comment! :-) Great video as always. I don't often write chord progressions to a melody, usually the other way around. But I will be trying this for sure. I just love that Fmajor to F minor change and have used it a few times myself. I've just signed up to your course too.
