Thank you for the walk - no mater the weather I think the rush of finding those gorgious shells takes over your discompfort, take good care and have a warm coco well deserved! from Ottawa Ontario Canada
I was shelling on Dickman and Kice island in February, 2022 and it was amazing just like you said. By February there were many more deceased shells because they couldn’t take the extreme cold snap from January.
As a Floridian I was initially feeling awful for you suffering in the cold despite the heavy parka… then I saw you were wearing shorts and ankle socks. Lessons learned that day. LOL Another epic shelling video and a big laugh. Thanks for that,
Yep, you are right, lol. I was so conflicted figuring out how to dress that morning - it was the first morning of the cold front, and it was like 35 degrees at 7am. My thought process was that I will dress warm on top(and in layers), and wear shorts in case it does warm up. Thanks for watching, friend!
@@solaceinshelling6552 I’m headed to Marco Island and 10,000 Islands next week. Temps are in the 90’s and zero wind in South Florida - big difference from your video. Here on the east coast shelling has been awful with the ocean looking more like a lake. Not a single storm so far this season. I’m missing the variety and adventure
Yes, our NW winds in the winter can be brutal. Somehow 43 degrees feels like New Englands 25 degrees! Its the difference in humidity. Great finds! My fav is the albino!
I think this cold hurt more(than New England cold), because I was so unprepared for it! As you can see, I wore shorts underneath my parka - my top was warm, but my legs and toes were freezing! When I go shelling in Maine in the winter, I have a parka, layers, boots, and gloves, haha! Thanks for watching!
It’s so random what the temperature might be in Florida in Winter. You might have 90 degrees and sunny or you might have 40’s and windy. But the 10,000 islands never disappoint!
This assessment is so true! I was visiting family for the holidays and expected more seasonable weather. It turns out nature had other plans, lol! Thanks so much for watching!
Hey shelling friend - Yay, glad you made it to the 10k Islands - our fav place to shell with a great shelling charter company! Lol yeah it is so hard to be selective when they are SO many perfect shells to choose from but we have gotten creative to being able to take our haul back to SoCal😉. We go to SWF annually from San Diego in the Fall just to shell and were in Marco Island this past November and it was COLD, colder there than in SoCal - couldn't believe it and wasn't prepared with warm clothing but will make sure we are this year! I especially like finding the BIG shells - Lightning Whelks being my weakness but love the all the different cones. Looking forward to Part 2. As always, great to watch your journey. Hopefully you found the "Cone Zone" and as the saying goes: "leave no cone without a home" 😁🐚
Omg this is your first trip to the 10 thousand islands. You will definitely be hooked. My very favorite shell is the lace murex. I go 2 times a year with my sisters. I have found so many huge lace murex there. My favorite place to shell. Can’t wait to see part 2.
Super cool albino lightening whelk! There was a mental disconnect hearing the wind, seeing how cold you were and seeing the types of shells you were finding ... didn't seem like Florida! 😅
Hi Brian! Amazing video. I love Dickmans. You must have filmed this early in the year as cold as it was. Can't wait till I get to Marco Island in Sept and do my shell tours to Dickmans and Kice. It might have been freezing cold but that's when you find the most shells. Love those lace murex and wow, nice true tulips and horse conchs. Thanks for the adventure. Can't wait for part 2, hope it's Kice!
This was filmed in December of this past year(2022). Part 2, is even more fun, and coming soon! I hope you have amazing shell adventures on your trip! 💙
I have never lived in Florida, but have heard from those who do(and who are serious shellers), that the NW winds are when you know it's going to be good! Thanks for watching!
Such great shelling!!! I am so ready to get back to the 10K islands, but this was epic even for there! Have you tried wearing neoprene (diving) gloves? I wonder if those would help with keeping hands warm and dry when shelling in cold weather. I found some on Amazon that were less than $20 that looked pretty decent. I’m going to give them a try this winter.
Amazing amount and quality shells. Thank you for braving the cold to bring us a really good video. Can't wait for part two (I hope it warmed up a bit for you)🥶
Wow, you managed to find another frigid day in FL, and that's not easy to do! I love the lace murex (all the murex really), too! Looking forward to finding my first! Happy shelling!
LOL! I filmed about 4 - 5 episodes in Florida last December, and they were all during this cold front. This means, outside of this 10k islands trip there are even more fun super shell hauls to come! Thanks for watching, friend!
Wow you needed a parka and ski mask! I felt sorry for you but then I realized I would have been out there too no matter how cold for a chance to find all of those gems! I really loved the red true tulips! Some day some day
I think it's just that I wasn't prepared for the cold here. In Maine, in the winter, I KNOW it's going to be cold so I wear boots, mittens, a hat, and a heavy winter jacket. I didn't expect this weather in Florida, lol! Thanks so much for watching, friend1
Oooooo so many goodies 🐚 you've made me wanna go back soooo bad 😆 Would love to know what you think of Reel Kind because I'm booking with them on my next trip 👍🏻 Super excited for the next vlog 😊😊
I love Reel Kind 💙 They were the first 10k island shell tour company that I started following on social media before I created this channel. You will have an amazing time, and they will take care of you! Happy shelling!
I was quite conflicted on deciding what to wear for this shell trip. It was bitterly cold when I woke up in the morning(so I wore my coat), but I thought... it's Florida, it will warm up by 10am(so I wore shorts). I was wrong - it stayed cold, lol! Thanks for watching1
Hi friend! I don't personally sell shell bags - the one I use was gifted to me by a close friend. This particular bag is from sunsportcanvas.com/ :) Thanks for watching!

I also thought...it's Florida, it will warm up by 10 am... so I wore shorts, lol. I was wrong. It stayed blustery and cold all day. Thanks for watching, friend!
I am going to Los Angeles soon to look for shells and would love to document it and post it to RUclips. Do you think an iPhone 8 alone would suffice to make a quality video?
Absolutely! One thing I have learned about filming my shelling journeys is that it doesn't necessarily matter what the video quality is so much as you have good stabilization(turn that on, on your phone and it will cut out any shakiness), and film in landscape mode(not portrait mode), if you are uploading a longer video to RUclips. Good luck, friend!
You know, gloves and long pants might help if you're cold at 43 degrees. If you shell in Maine, you should be used to chillier weather. We don't need to hear every 30 seconds how cold you are. We get it. Nice shells.
The first lightening welk had the most beautiful colors

My goodness I'm only a few minutes in and I see you are literally purple with the cold 🥶 I hope you won't get ill!!
The colors on those pen shells are gorgeous! I know it’s hard to find them whole sometimes. Your finds are awesome on this cold day.
Like 270 Beautiful seashells! Thank you very much for sharing!
I think I would cry if I found shells this good!
Thank you so much for watching!
Such Beautiful shells 🙌🐚🐚... incredible !! 🇦🇺

I Would have kept that broken alphabet cone, it had a great display of the inner shell, which fascinates me.
Well that was fun- especially since it's 93 degrees here in Southern Ontario today. Amazing shells!!! Great video.
An exceptionally cold day in Florida, tends to throw everyone off kilter, lol!
Thanks for watching!
Hey don’t you get sick!! Beautiful sea shells!! Love this video, so much to see ,paper figs are my favorite!! Thank you for sharing!!
Such an awesome shelling day!!!
Thank you so much for watching!
What a fantastic location. I'm with you on the beautiful orange color on the fighting cochs. Thanks for taking us along.🌻🐕
Thank you so much for watching!
I feel so bad for you freezing that I made coffee and it’s in the nineties.😂. Thanks for the great video!
Absolutely nothing wrong with a coffee and some shells! 💙🐚
Super cool albino lightening whelk! There was a mental disconnect hearing the wind, seeing how cold you were and seeing the types of shells you were finding ... didn't seem like Florida! 😅
Thank you so much for coming along, shell friend!
Wow!!! Shell heaven. Even though it was cold it was worth it. The sound was great even with the wind. Looking forward to Part 2.
I am very appreciative that you found the audio reasonable - I was concerned when editing that the wind would be too much.
Thanks for watching!

Winter shelling at its finest. Those NW winds bring in amazing shells. This was fun watching as we are having record heat in SW FL.

Thanks so much for watching, friend! Part 2 will be just as cold, lol 🤣
Wowee!
Amazing!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for braving the cold for us! What a jack pot of a haul! I can't for part 2. Take care, give Yuki some scratches from me.
Than you for watching, friend! Yuki loves all of the ear scratchies! 🐕
So many lace murex!!
Some of my favorites! Thanks for watching!

This place is called Dickman's Island, and is part of a chain of islands in SW Florida called the 10K Islands.

Why aren't you wearing your half gloves?
Why didn't you put the live animals back in the water. Better chance of survival.
