- This video will show you just how to install a new Crank shaft position sensor in a 2nd gen dodge ram 1500. Thank Y'all for watching my video! Hope it helps! - ParoDoXz
this is the most informative video on dodge crankshaft sensor replacement I have viewed , there are others that are good but this looks like the best. keep up the good work ParoDoXz
I guess Im asking randomly but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid forgot my password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Jackson River Instablaster ;)
@Kameron Karsyn Thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
That's one of the best DIY videos I've seen in a long long time
This is a great video. I think that the thing to understand is that the wire plugs into the back of the motor but the bracket and bolts are 90 degrees and basically face up. The transmission tube bend is a really good land mark. You can basically follow the tube and touch the bolts from the top, too. It still took me forever to figure this out! Thanks!
SUPER Helpful for identifying location of sensor!! Thanks for the extra effort to help us see exactly where to look!
I dont know why people are saying you need a body lift. I have a stock 1998 Ram 1500 5.9 4x4 Sport and this works perfectly. Thank you so much for the help.
Thanks Jim! Glad to help
Best video on this. I was having trouble understanding where it is and how to change it but he explained it perfectly
howard mauller Glad to help!
Yeah Im looking at buying one this weekend that need the sensor so it was definitely a big help
thanks saved me lots of time. love the video. easy to follow any you dont have to watch a 20 minute video to see the important stuff
Dude i love this guy he was really helpful yet so polite😆
Thanks for the video! I'm putting my ram 1500 tranny back in & couldn't remember where everything goes, think i damaged my crank position sensor. But your video explained where it goes & how to get to it, Thanks again! Subbed & thumbs up.
This is like “impossible” with long tube headers, lol! Great video man
Appreciate this video! Helps get things in perspective for me and where I am going to look and get this job taken care of.
thanks man this really helped me and no one else's video was this detailed to help. really helped when you backed up slowly to show me exactly where you was at hope it works and hope its my crank sensor since my truck won't start now after putting new motor, tranny, transfer case in and radiator and water pump and new heads. was almost about to give up on it
No problem man! I appreciate you watching and glad I could help with your project! That's what this video was all about when I made it!
Great job showing multiple angles and reference points. This was a huge help. 2000 Dodge 1500 owner 😊
This video defiantly helped..I to have a 2001 ram 1500 5.9..I actually Just was driving it down the road here in Camp Lejeune and the engine shut off..Everything electrical worked, but anytime I tried to re start it it would struggle it wouldn’t turn on all the way but I automatically though it was the CPS because the same thing happened in our 2016 Jeep Patriot..but I just got this truck. The video was defiantly helpful thankyou
What was the issue?
it seems to be hard to find alot of these videos for a 02 ram 5.9 liter. Glad I watched your video my truck is doing similar stuff and today it's not cranking so heard this might be it . I appreciate your help. .THANKS.
B Yourself Glad I could help man! I appreciate you watching!
You did a great job, But not telling us you have a body lift makes the job look easier and more accessible than it really is for those that might not know. Thank you.
Thats true.. I hope the best for everyone going threw this
You got it like that because your body lift do that again in the same process on a stock ram.
Love the real world video. It's not the 2 bolts that's the problem , it's navigating , finding the sob.😂
You have 3in body lift which makes it simple saw ur mounts. Dont work that way with stock body mounts
Thanks for the video. Been trying to locate this little guy, and the other videos weren't very clear like you said. Awesome job!!
Mike Van Houten Glad to help man!
Thanks Bro!
Installed a new timing chain and my engine ran super smooth but idle at 500. It then boggs out. I changed pcm, 02 sensors, idle air control to not fix anything. I didn't think my 5.9 had a crank sensor since it isnt the newer hemi 5.7. I hope this fixes it!
Thanks for the video, I just got a 2000 Ram 1500 with the 5.2 (318) engine. I'm going to replace the crank sensor this week and I think its in the same location.
Was IT at the same location ? I also got a Ram 2000 1500 5.2 and i got to change it too !
Awesome video I got the exact information I needed and feel confident I can replace this on my own now. Thanks!
Thank you for the video… I just purchased a Dodge Ram Half Ton Quad Cab 5.9 that is cranking but not starting and I just changed all the spark plugs which did not do the trick but I’m thinking now it is the crankshaft sensor. A crankshaft sensor will keep the truck from starting, correct?
Correct.
Also cam sensor, remember.
Finally! Thank you ao much for showing how to without removing tire or just saying, "ya gotta feel around in there for it
For those two bolts that hold in the sensor, it's 1/2" wrench (or socket) OR a 1/4" allen wrench.
So glad ive got the same body lift lol. This made it so easy
Man I’m glad you made this video! I have a 95 5.2 liter and could find the dam thing!
Great job and your engine is spotless.
Thank you, your video was very helpful to me. God bless you 🌹
waleed alwaleed Glad I could help! God bless
What was your truck doing and did that fix it?
Perfect, thanks for the details! Saved me some time for sure
This video can not help the 80 percent of people that have stock lifts on their truck... should probably mention that in the description, or in the title.
Thanks for the video, very easy to change now that I know where it is
Hey thanx alot. Was habing a very hard time locating the sensor
Short and sweet without any hype.
Thank you
I ordered one that came today and I'm changing it out cuz my truck never throws a code but I'm replacing the air charge sensor replacing the TPS the O2 sensors the crank sensor the map sensor just because it's a 99 as almost 200,000 on it it's still runs great but has an intermittent stall problem every now and then stalls it won't start back up for like 10 minutes so I'm going to do the fuel pump also.
Did all of that fix your stall issue? I’m having the same problem
Great video. Best one I have seen for this particular replacement
Not sure if this will be seen but do you have to reset the computer or anything like this? I changed the sensor but now the truck does not want to idle.
Outstanding video. Excellent speaking quality. Thank you, you've just earned a subscriber.
great video thanks i have the same problem but now i know what im dealing with,,, looks hard but thanks to you i am sure i can do it .......
laffin.. I was duckin' my head gettin' in there too! Thanks for a great video. Well done! I have a 2001 4x4 too.
Thank you for the video. Best one I’ve seen that helped me to change this. You rock, also wondering if you installed an external transmission cooler?
This is the only video which helped me find this part. Diagrams just don't.
I'm glad it did. I was the same way man. That's why I made this video
I noticed you don't have a splash guard. I think I will remove mine to get access because working under the truck you cant see to get to that top bolt.
Very well explained
Excellent , one of the better Dodge repair videos iv seen , excellent job and nice rig man
yeah your vid helped alot but getting to the mounting bolts are screwed. did you get to them from the top or underneath either way your working blind.
I know this vid is old but thanks my man 🙏
Can you do one on the camshaft sensor?
easy peasy- pull off dist cap and look underneath. Disconnx battery lead and make SURE you don't pinch the lead and know which way the cap and wires fit so you don't screw with the firing order.
Pardon me... but did no one have to deal with the transmission dipstick? It seems I cant turn the bolt with it in place. Any suggestions on this? Thanks... I'm not a mechanic obviously, but trying to help a stranded friend.
You knocked it out or the park! Thank you.
Thanks very good job. Helped a lot .
very good video thank you
Great video, about to do this today.
Gonna attempt this on my 2000 5.2 ram. In cold weather it’s been skipping and bucking n missing real bad. Hoping this fixes that. Otherwise I have to let it warm up for 20 minutes on cold mornings then it will be fine
Very Helpful!
Glad I could help! Check out some of my recent videos! I have a 2001 24v Cummins now!
Thanks for the vid. But ur method doesnt help unless u have a 4inch body lift
How much does it cost to cam a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9
Nice video PARO nice truck thanks
I'm sure it's a lot easier when you have a body lift
Thank you bud for the clear video big help
Glad to help!
Great clear vision.
Joe Marotta Thank you for watching!
Very helpful. I appreciate your work! ❤
Good video man one explained everything good
Thanks man, you should subscribe and check out my recent videos! I have a Cummins now and upload videos on it all the time!
Great video, now I need to replace mine& get fire I hope!
My truck has the same problem same year, is it safe to buy a crank shaft position sensor online and install it my self ( I am not a machanic but am willing to try it my self )
Yeah man, its unfortunate. Good luck though!
Why did you change the sensor? I'm working on my brothers wich is cranking forever before it finally starts, I've been through everything and I am starting to think this might be what is wrong with it. He said it runs fine until it shifts into 3rd gear then it starts breaking up. Any input would be great, thanks.
Could be bad battery or something In ignition system like distributor cap rotor spark plugs/wires coil.
@@thecosmickat3954 or cam sensor ring in the distributor housing cap.
It's easy on a dodge:ram van, just pop the doghouse off. There's your crank sensor, thermostat, distributor cap, little bypass hose behind the water pump. Lol.
Good job on the video
Ricky D Thanks man!
This help me out for sure thank you
Saved my @$$!!!! Many thx for payin it forward
That’s what it’s all about! Hope ya have a good one!
What code was giving for you to replace that or what was it doing
Perfect video. Thank you.
X-cellent....great video in a hard to reach place. Now I can tackle mine. Good lookin truck too!!!
Is it the same for a 99 Dodge ram 5.2
i have a 2000 dodge ram 1500 v8 5.2 would it be in the same spot ya think?
Nigga... You always helpin out. Didn't even know you did this till I heard your voice and seen the channel. thanks again.
Btw for anyone doing this try and take that inner fender out and should give you some more room
You showed where it's at but gave absolutely no direction on how to take it off. You literally can't do it from the bottom because there is no room. The frame and the exhaust manifold are both in the way.
How did you test to determine the sensor needed replacing?
Dude I need part comparison, the shops sell “standard universal parts”, show parts!!
Would a bad crank shaft sensor cause the truck to only turn over but will not fire up
Does the crankshaft position sensor need to be removed to take out the engine?
does it plug into the motor? we r having a hard time with my dads
Brooke Hensley No it doesn't, it should be right where I show it in the video. Unless it was re-routed since factory
Honesty has this truck ever ran for over 6 months without needing something. Unfortunately most rams are pos because of electrical/ trans issues.
Another thing.. isn't it better to replace BOTH cam and crank sensors together?
my check engine light is calling for random missfires amd iv done a full tune up on it. what could it be? im getting like 5mpg
mx guy2014 cap and rotor O2 sensor maybe.
Use the method to get the code displayed on the odometer. My Actron scanner did not show any codes.
My truck is starting up very inconsistently like somedays it'll be fine them others it won't work at all. last night I changed the rotor and distributor and it started right up. this morning it worked fine and I drove it to school. once I got out of school the damn thing wouldn't start! all it would do is crank. Is it possible the crank shaft sensor could cause this?
It is definitely a possibility, yes. Have you plugged up a code reader to it?
unfortunately I don't have a scanner so I haven't tried that. today it shut off while I was driving and then wouldn't start up. a couple hours later I got it to start once but then it cut immediately.
It could be a lot of things man, I suggest getting a buddy with a code reader or going up to auto zone and getting them to scan it
Think codes will show up even though there's no dash lights on?
Well there's no guarantee it will, but it is a start and I would go from there.
Did you have a check engine light on? If not, what problems were you having? I have a 2nd gen. with the 5.2 and have rough idle issues at cold start but no check engine light. Plenum gasket is good, New O2 sensors,, new plugs/wires/cap/rotor, cleaned throttle body, etc. Some of the members on the Dodge forums have found this sensor to be the culprit.
No I did not have a check engine light on, but I would definitely replace yours I think it could possibly be your problem too. Next thing I would check is your timing
Thanks! For the video 😀
Thanks my dude!!!
It would have been nice if you told us what size the bolts were
I’m having the same problem I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 liter. I wired a subwoofer then when I tried to start, it started the first time then just died. Now it just cranks but will not start at all. When I give it a little gas it will just barely run then die. Please help
Does manual transmissions have crankshaft sensor on them
Great truck ..... what do you do if you don't have a body lift like that....
It will be a little harder to find if you don't have any lift. But it's still in the same spot and you get it off the same way
one thing about these trucks is that a body definitely helps for these sensors as well as removing/ installing the motor. Way easier if you have the lift.....mine doesn't but I may add one in the next year or so.
Did he say “hoses going to your sparks plugs” ??
I'm a tech. I just had to do this job in a hot engine bay while the customer waited. -_-
Great vid Thanks
How do I know if my sensor is bad. I have the same truck and it idles high and kicks when I put it into drive it recently just stalled as well.??????
Might also be a o2 sensor I have a 95 and it was doing what you said idling high kicking when shifted occasionally stalling. You’ll know if the sensor is bad when either the truck shuts off and cranks but will not start. The easiest way to diagnose is if it shuts off and will not start crank the motor and look at the rpm gauge. If the sensor is bad it will not show any rpm. If it shows rpm it’s something else.
Ugh! Thank you!
Did you use a new mopar sensor?
Did you record with a brick?
