When I put on 1080 model trying to record nothing is showing no videos or pictures! I only can heard my voice or background but no videos! Why is that? Besides that problem is a good little camera.
how long can the battery last in motion detection mode? you get 1hour when fully recording, right? so 1hour max detection time is fine. (which makes lower chunks better, i hear it's 3min, not 5min) so assume i were gonna leave it somewhere "alone" for 24hours. could it wait in detection mode, for about 18hours maybe? then shoot a recording if it saw a something, be it a person, a cat, etc?
They do but the range is pretty limited. I'd say about 6 feet would be the limit of their usefulness. The clip showing the ball cap is in a pitch dark room (no ambient light whatsoever) and I backed up about 3 feet or so.
Hello, thanks for the tutorial. It is possible to charge this camera using the usb cable+external power bank? I'm considering hiding the camera in a small area inside a plastic enclosure (to avoid be detected by an intruder), but I was worried about your comment that the camera becomes extremely hot when charging (because I pretend to keep the camera continuously charging with some usb-powered power bank). Although the camera won't melt when charging, do you think a close plastic material could result damaged? :(
It would probably depend on the type of plastic. Something like kydex would melt too easily but I imagine there are some plastics that would work. I imagine with just a tiny gap between the camera and the enclosure it would be okay as long as there was some way for the heated air to vent. Given the case is going to make it a little bigger overall, plus you'd have the external power supply, I think it would be easier to just use one of the cheaper GoPro style cameras that doesn't have the insane heating issue that this tiny camera does. You'd also get a huge bump in image quality.
SO, to record video all i have to do is hold the power button for 2 seconds? i don't hear you saying how to record video, all you say is how to turn it on and switch between functions
When you're in the mode you want to use, press the power button once and it will flash and then go out. When the light is out it is recording. To stop recording press the power button again and the light will come back on.
THE SQ 8 is not even shown up. Only in the hardware manager u can find it as unknown usb device (error request device description ) . in computer administration its not shown only my HDDs . no removable usb port . tryed to update drivers of all usb ports in the hardwaremanager and the unknown sq8 .... not works . IF I PULL OUT THE SD CARD OUT OF THE CAMERA AND PUT IT INTO AN SD CARD READER I CAN GET MY FOTOS AND VIDEOS BUT I WANT 2 GET THEM OVER THE USB CHARGING DATA VIDEO CABLE. HAVE U GOT AN IDEA OR DRIVER THAT WORKS ? BEST REGARDS
I've had trouble plugging it into the USB 3.0 ports. One of my PCs has both and it works on the 2.0 ports but not the 3.0 ports. Maybe try that? I've used it with Windows 7, 8 and 10 and all three recognized it except for the USB 3.0 problem.
I haven't done a ton of closeup testing but I have gotten clear video within about a foot or so. The big problem with really close up video will be having enough light though. It gets really grainy without really bright light.
has anyone used the motion detection successfully? and how'd they do it? after going into that mode, it just starts recording. the last commenter stated that there is no motion detection mode. is this true?
When I first received the product it switched on fine. Then I charged it for 2 hours and then when I switch it on, the blue led lights up for 2 secs then turns magenta..which blinks for 4secs and then finally turns blue again for a fraction of a sec and then turns off. Any idea whats happening?
I haven't tried but you probably can. I'd be a bit wary though as it gets so crazy hot while charging. I'd suggest getting a bit larger camera with bigger batteries. My Wimius goes about an hour on a full charge (two if you use both batteries) and my Garmin Virb goes almost three hours.
No. In reality the CCD in the camera is much like any other camera. Since the CCD is sensitive to IR light but your eyes aren't, it appears lit up in the video, so no you wouldn't be able to see anything at night without the LEDs lit up. The video is almost unusable past about 10 feet in complete darkness.
If you mean how do they turn on, when you activate IR mode. You can't see them with the naked eye. The CCD in the camera is sensitive enough to IR light that it shows up in the video but the human eye can't see IR light.
If you mean how are they lit, they're infrared LEDs. The CCD sensor in most cameras is sensitive enough to infrared light that you can see them on the camera but not with the naked eye.
Once you're in the mode you want (720 or 1080), hold down the mode button for 3 seconds. The light will flash and turn off and it's now in motion detection mode. To stop motion detection mode, press the on/off button once and it goes back into standby.
UnexplodedMinds thanks! i just got mine 2days ago. i think its defective unit. i can record only for 4minutes and it will stop... and it is really very hot when charging. night mode is useless. you cant see anything.
I got about 30 minutes of record time after charging for 3 hours. And yes it does get VERY hot when charging. I put mine on a ceramic saucer when charging it gets so hot. I agree the night mode is only useful to about three or four feet. I don't think the CCD is optimized for IR light.
It's as simple as plugging the supplied cable into the camera and an available USB port on your computer. Any Windows computer Windows 7 or newer will automatically recognize it. The very first time you plug it in it may take several minutes for it to initialize the driver for that specific camera but once it's done you can just plug it into your computer and it should show up as another drive on your computer. Make sure you use the supplied cable. It's not a standard USB cable like most cameras or tablets use.
I found it to only be effective to about 10 feet or so. In a completely black room the IR LEDs will illuminate the field of view with a soft pinkish color. It's definitely not "night vision" like you'd see on a helmet camera or rifle scope. Most CCDs are sensitive to IR light and it looks like that's all this is, with the addition of built-in infrared LEDs. It's effective but only at very close proximity to the camera.
о SQ 8.
I don't think so but I'd have to Google it and do some research to be sure. It wouldn't make the greatest webcam though since the field of view is so wide.
Honestly I don't know but I doubt it. I found the night vision to be REALLY limited so I don't think it would be all that useful anyway unless it was triggered by something really close.
It records in 5 minute segments. If you record say 10 minutes you'll have two 5-minute segments. If you stitch them together in any video editor the transition is seamless.
I don't usually use the date and time watermark so I hadn't noticed but I just tried and the clock was way way off. I set it to the current date and time and started recording and the date and time it recorded were correct so I'm guessing the internal clock isn't kept current by the battery. You may need to reset it to the correct time before each recording.
I TRIED RECORDING IT WAS RECORDING ONLY 10MINS OR LESS NOT MORE.WHAT IS THE MISTAKE I AM DOING.I CHARGED IT FULL NIGHT.I HAVE LOT SPACE BUT STILL STOPS LESS THAN 10MINS.QUALITY AND ALL OK.BUT WHY CANT I RECORD MORE THAN 10 MINS.I RECORDED KEEPING IN TABLE WHERE REGULAR MOMENT WILL BE THERE.AND MODE IS 720 MODE.
I believe it records in 5 minute segments. If it only recorded 10 minutes on a full charge you may have a defective camera. If it's not defective the only thing I can think of is that it's in its "night vision" mode and the IR LEDs are on the whole time and killing the battery. If that's not it, I'd return it.
it was not in night vision mode bro.how do u know battery was fully charged or not.i am trying to charge by connecting laptop if i try with charger its recording directly.so charging with laptop
There isn't really any way to know for sure if the battery is fully charged. The longest I've ever left it charging for is about 3 hours and was able to record a good 30 minutes or so with it. Many laptops don't provide enough current on their USB ports to charge a battery properly so I'd definitely try using a plug in charger. I use either a desktop PC or a phone type charger to charge it. I'd try the phone type charger first to rule out a battery issue (it's guaranteed to provide enough current).
I haven't tried but if you haven't been able to it's probably not possible. Given that larger action cameras would likely be just as big as this with a powerbank, it might make more sense to use one of the cheaper GoPro sized action cameras. Some of them will go 3 hours per charge in some video modes.
Got mine yesterday charge it About 3 hours unplugged and tires to record a video but it turn off, it doesn't stay on unless it's plugged to a power source, any suggestion ?
Just leave it plugged in onn motion detection you could probably just leave it and if anythong happened you could probably go back a few days with a 32gb card in it
When I put on 1080 model trying to record nothing is showing no videos or pictures! I only can heard my voice or background but no videos! Why is that? Besides that problem is a good little camera.
how to replace correct dating or to remove the date view on the video and the taking picture ?
I'll need to look into it. I don't think it has a date feature but I could be wrong. It doesn't show up on any of the videos I've recorded.
how long can the battery last in motion detection mode?

Mine only works when it plugged to the charger even tried to charging a whole night but yet it's not working
Do the infrared leds work in total darkness and do you know how far approx its able to see in the dark? Thanks
They do but the range is pretty limited. I'd say about 6 feet would be the limit of their usefulness. The clip showing the ball cap is in a pitch dark room (no ambient light whatsoever) and I backed up about 3 feet or so.

Yes, I think the GoPro or similar alternative should be ok without the overheating issue in my case. Thanks for your reply!
Hello, could you tell me how to activate the led lights on the camera

aha good to know . i tryed it on a old mac and a old xp laptop too . they have usb 2.0 for sure . exact same error message :(
solved problem with a normal usb 8 pin cable without fuckin video split !!!! jesus crist ! YOU MANIAC !!!
Hi, Do you know how close he can shoot and still stay focused?
I haven't done a ton of closeup testing but I have gotten clear video within about a foot or so. The big problem with really close up video will be having enough light though. It gets really grainy without really bright light.

the last commenter stated that there is no motion detection mode. is this true?
when you're in standby mode, choose 720 or 1080 and then hold mode button 3 seconds. It works, only after 1 minute it shuts down. That sucks...
When I first received the product it switched on fine. Then I charged it for 2 hours and then when I switch it on, the blue led lights up for 2 secs then turns magenta..which blinks for 4secs and then finally turns blue again for a fraction of a sec and then turns off. Any idea whats happening?
Sounds like maybe the battery is bad.
does the light turn off when recording? if not kinda defeats the purpose of me using this as a spy cam
The four front infrared lights stay on as long as you're recording in that mode.
You cant see the IR light with the naked eye.
Can you use it while charging, e.g. while connected to a power bank, to extend the recording time?
I haven't tried but you probably can. I'd be a bit wary though as it gets so crazy hot while charging. I'd suggest getting a bit larger camera with bigger batteries. My Wimius goes about an hour on a full charge (two if you use both batteries) and my Garmin Virb goes almost three hours.
Can you put night vision without turning on infrared light? Thank you

UnexplodedMinds ok .. thank you
How can you mute the camera so it doesn't record sound while recording video?
I'm not sure you can. If there's a way I don't know of it (except in a video editor of course which is what I do).
Thanks...I'll just cover the mic, hope it works.
Hello I got it, how do the lights on this camera burn?
If you mean how do they turn on, when you activate IR mode. You can't see them with the naked eye. The CCD in the camera is sensitive enough to IR light that it shows up in the video but the human eye can't see IR light.
UnexplodedMinds How can i get it?

In answer to Alan Lair ,yes it has motion detection
I just checked and yes it does. Thanks for the correction.
UnexplodedMinds how do you activate the motion sensor?
Once you're in the mode you want (720 or 1080), hold down the mode button for 3 seconds. The light will flash and turn off and it's now in motion detection mode. To stop motion detection mode, press the on/off button once and it goes back into standby.

Hello, this camera records videos while it is connected and it is loaded in the usb?
NO. Isn't posible to log on, or start recording. When you cherge it, just do chargeing :)

margus kiis - Is it motion detect recording?
can i zoom with it
There is no zoom. The pinhole lens is so tiny if you optically zoomed you'd need an incredible amount of light for it not to be too dim.
do you know how to set up a date and time?i go to timerest.txt i fix the time but when i record it records with the old date again!

Is it a waterproof can?
I don't believe it is no. It would need a case of some sort if used in the rain or under water.

i tried phone charger it started recording video automatically.
Mine definitely doesn't do that. Sounds like you may have a defective camera.
Does the world really need 127 review/tutorial videos of this POS camera?
Im going to take the battery out, wire it up to power in my Acro quad racing drone and use it for recording freestyle lol
Fantastic review. I am unable to do any recording when the charging is on. How to i make it record longer by attaching a powerbank? Please advise.
I haven't tried but if you haven't been able to it's probably not possible. Given that larger action cameras would likely be just as big as this with a powerbank, it might make more sense to use one of the cheaper GoPro sized action cameras. little usb with rca seems useless also cant ever get picture on tv
That could be true. That functionality didn't seem terribly useful anyway. A lot of modern monitors and TVs don't even have composite inputs anymore.
how much take time to full charge?
It should be charged within 3 hours. I can't stress enough to put it on a saucer or something while it's charging as it gets insanely hot.
Got mine yesterday charge it About 3 hours unplugged and tires to record a video but it turn off, it doesn't stay on unless it's plugged to a power source, any suggestion ?
how long does the battery last on full charge can you record with charging cable on, im a delivery driver and need to use it to record all day
I think the most I ever got out of it was about 30 minutes. Maybe 35.
Just leave it plugged in onn motion detection you could probably just leave it and if anythong happened you could probably go back a few days with a 32gb card in it
