saw him and OME when I was in college and Woods spoke to me for like 30 minutes after the show, I'm sure I was insanely annoying and stupid but he was kind and cool the whole time. gave me a free willie green mixtape after we were done talking.

@@charlesm1538 Same experience with him. Saw him and OME like 4-5 years ago in Phoenix and woods and I hungout after the show and talked about how dive bar support group was one of our favorite OME deep cuts

Woods is my favorite artist man what a lyricist. The more I learn about history and politics the more I get out his lyrics and the more I get out his lyrics the more I learn or the more I'm amused and impressed with his observations. Even the weed bars are deep in a hip hop poetry way. "Splif could probably jump your car battery", "wreathed in gas I'm a carbonator" on back to back songs is nuts (it's nuts!). It's frustrating to like stuff like this with such depth cause you can't just show it to most people and expect them to get much out of it without knowing a ton about hip hop, history, and so much in between. I only got into it after years of learning how to listen to guys like MF DOOM, Jpegmafia, Death Grips, and other indie rap contemporaries (including our fine host here, thanks OEM❤️). I definitely heard billy woods years before I "got" it and just thought it was kinda boring. I still don't get everything but I know enough to know that even what goes over my head is gold too and I have no idea how I ever thought it was boring bruh I must have been stupid. Now I try to show my dad this stuff cause he's something of a history buff and literature nerd but it just doesn't do anything for him cause he doesn't get hip hop and is intentionally politically ignorant. Frustrating as hell but that's people man what can you do. At least I can enjoy it and holy shit do I enjoy it. Going to see Armand Hammer next month and I'm hyped as hell man. I saw them when I went to see injury Reserve back in 2022 before I got into their stuff. I was face to face with Elucid and I said "can I get an injury Reserve shirt". It's such a weird feeling to meet one of your heros before you know how much they'll mean to you. I'll be amazed if anyone reads all this but thanks if I'm just stream of consciousness out here I just love the music so much
That's awesome man, I'm currently a huge JPEGMAFIA fan and I went to see him and Danny Brown and it was my favorite concert ever. I've listened to Haram and We Buy DTS by Armand Hammer and Maps by Billy woods so far and I'm waiting to really "get it" like you.

One of my favorite verses.
So glad OME asked about the haram album cover, partially bc its a perfect cover and one of my favs, and mainly bc that little henry story is something straight out of one of woods verses "split straight down the middle / entrails hanging in the sun"
Out of all of his albums, "Today, I Wrote Nothing" is by far my favorite. Definitely one of my favorite rappers of all time.

40:00 Man! I have done so many canvassing jobs and it is called that one of my favorite artists has experienced that as well! Quite relatable, and I would most likely never do that job again unless they were paying like $30 an hour. It is quite a scary job at times because you never know who you are going to run up on. The commission based incentives are also a little challenging, not to mention the weather.
