      If they caught it in a net instead of putting a gash in it's face from a hook, then I would agree. Why are catch and release folks so in denial about the fact that they wound the animal? It could get an infection and die.

      @@MsMyhouse If that was the case there would be countless sharks floating along coastlines dead from so called 'gashes in their faces'. The fact there aren't says that catch and release works with minimal distress to the animal. In fact I'd wager the shark is more likely to die from the increase in stress hormones than from a point of a hook. I imagine you have never been fishing in your life as most fishing equipment nowadays is designed with the welfare of the fish, and it's safe release in mind. From small coarse fishing tackle, right up to big game fishing tackle. The tackle might look fearsome and large here, but that's because its scaled up to safely land the fish it's designed for. If the fish was to break the line and be stuck with a hook in it's mouth or worse towing tackle around, that could be even worse, so it's important that people fish with the appropriate balanced tackle for the species they are aiming for. I have even seen first aid kits for fish and hook penetration points sold in fishing shops, containing anti bacterial wipes and lotions. Without the fish, the catch and release fishing industry doesn't exist. There is a huge incentive to protect and look after the livelihood of the stock.

If they didn’t, then we’d be seeing a bunch of dead sharks washing up along the beach, and we don’t. It’s illegal to target great whites, and it’s incredibly rare to catch one in the Gulf of Mexico. They were careful to leave it in the water and get it released quickly. They didn’t do anything wrong.

You would not necessarily see sharks that were killed from irresponsible fishing practices “wash up” sharks sink it’s rare they wash up it happens with living this sometimes in the conditions on their deaths and tides and winds us the type of animal they are are just right mostly animals sink and are eaten by other marine life and since their bones besides their teeth are cartilage it rare they’ll be anything remaining at all

    There are several being tracked in the Gulf as well as the Atlantic. Ocearch reports three white sharks have "pinged" recently off the coast of Florida - two in the Gulf of Mexico and one in the Atlantic. That's just the ones that are tagged. The one they caught could have been Maple, who pinged March 6 about 43 miles southeast of St. George Island in Florida's Big Bend area. Maple is considered a sub-adult white shark. She was tagged Sept. 14, 2021, off Ironbound Island, Nova Scotia.

      @bluemarlin8138 Год назад

      @@magnumxlpi It’s a bit of a myth that they don’t like warm water. White sharks are everywhere except for the very warmest and very coldest seas. We just didn’t know about it until recently. They migrate down to Florida in the winter from the northeast US and Canadian waters. Some of them head around the peninsula into the Gulf and Caribbean. It is believed that hundreds of years ago there was a thriving white shark population in the Caribbean and Gulf, because there was a huge population of Caribbean monk seals. There were reports from the 1500s of sharks that were much bigger and more dangerous than all the native sharks and were also found in Spanish waters, which pretty much means they could only be white sharks. But the Spanish nearly wiped out the seals, and they were extinct by the 20th century. This drove down the white shark population in the area as well. I’m sure they have still been here in small numbers the whole time, but the recent rise in white shark numbers and the increase in the numbers of people fishing and diving with portable video recorders (as well as satellite tracking of sharks) has greatly increased, so we’re more aware of their presence now.

    They cut it's dorsal fin up real good. Nice job releasing it but it might die. We have to leave things where they belong instead of trying to conquer everything for sport.
