  • In this video, I share the experience of suddenly becoming unhoused from my seasonal employment. As someone who has relied on housing from seasonal jobs for the past few years, watch as I cope with the abrupt changes to my life. Honestly, this is why I love having my car set-up like it is... it is my home.
Join me on my car life journey as I share my experiences living in my car and embracing the open road. Follow along as I explore new places and live a minimalist lifestyle on the endless road.
Since 2016 I've been uploading hiking, backpacking, and car camping videos on this RUclips channel. I'm currently using seasonal work in inspiring locations to pay the bills and traveling in between. I hope you consider subscribing if you're new!

Taking your destiny and putting it in your own hands. I started out homeless living in a Jeep Liberty about 6 years ago. I lived in the Jeep and saved for a year and bought a brand new cargo trailer to convert to sleep and live in. I’ve since bought a brand new truck and paid it off early. When I get tired I rent a cheap flea bitten hotel room for a while to regain my strength and focus. I’m houseless still but I have a sizable savings account and I’m debt free. Stay focused.

I would have left if they moved me the 3rd time. It's totally unacceptable in my opinion. Whoever is in charge of employee housing ought to be fired. I'm glad you decided to leave that place. What a hapless string of events! A complete turnabout from last year's privileged management digs. Have you considered that refusing to start earlier than planned this year when they asked you could have led to them dismissing you early? Since you agreed to their final housing option, which turned out not to be available, that may explain why they decided to pay you for those final ten days. Be happy for that. Think of your next two weeks as your vacation. Be grateful you experienced this while in the continental USA. Imagine if something like this were to happen to you if you were in Antarctica. Be careful! Your survival skills may be called upon to face difficulties down the road. But do not ruminate. Inhale nature's beauty and leave the past behind. 😊🎉

I get it, I totally do. I had a seasonal at a glamping site in Maine this summer and had some of the issues you did. I'm not in a mgmt position so I couldn't request anything but I get the dealing with half assed mgmt, drama, less than stellar situations. Personally, I feel it is the nature of seasonal work. Most don't have background checks and the caliber of staff we got reflected that. But I also know, from coworkers, that lots of crap goes on in seasonal work places, usually homeless folks (and I mean homeless, not houseless as one commenter corrected you🤔😖) your situation was awful and I'm sorry. I, too, would have been flexible and adaptable because you weren't imagining it would continue to get worse. It's your positive work ethic and that gets taken advantage of. Crazy enough, I did my first seasonal 30 years ago. Some drama was the same but not so much ethical stuff, I think it was because it was owned by one guy, not a conglomerate. I actually interviewed with him directly at his Star Island home and worked his resort in NC. I feel your pain, frustration, anger, disappointment in why people just can't be reliable and responsible human beings. It's sad to me that the mgmt that carries out this extremely unprofessional work ethic is just as bad as, the upper mgmt requiring them to do it. And i left early too! I wasn't ready either but I do have a family and I was needed. But almost the next day, my mind switched as I grieved the change, then I could see only positives about leaving and see the mess I was leaving was for what it was. I was no longer trying to make the best of a half wtitted operation. I get you, Christine. I'm with you, more than you know. By the way, no more seasonals for this "seasoned " gal 😊

I also did the car thing for about 3 years with the insane housing time in Toronto. The homeless shelter are dangerous. They finally found a nursing home which is bloody expensive but slightly subsidized. I have been almost a year and will probably look for something cheaper. I Always loved the warmer states or Italy.

When these things happen we tend to think that it's just us an an isolated event, but I would bet this is a normal occurance with this company that's why that are so slow to do anything about it and why there were so many similar problems reoccurring. Sorry you went thru this.

You are very right to be upset by your experiences there. Safety is the bottom line - and fire safety is definitely important to be concerned about and is not trivial. You are exactly right they are allowing complacency to develop by not taking that seriously and that can indeed cost lives. Good on you for holding the line!

I was a nomad for 3 years, took a job at a dude ranch in Wickenburg, Arizona… it was a joke, the housing was gross. I was told I would have a private room but was given a room with a lady from the Philippines who worked a totally different shift. The job assignment ended up being a compilation of all the front desk work no one wanted to do. The owner, couldn’t even bring himself to say hello to me. I walked away, never looked a CoolWorks for a job again!
In the future if I nomad again I will have my on sleeping quarters on wheels !

They are an amazing company with good staff accomodations ( private rooms ) and its stunning there. Also , many fly in lodges ( im in my 30s so I only take jobs with private rooms in staff accoms ) I make sure to ask before any contract and ive gotten lucky three different places with amazing views / roomies . The places that offer dorm style are cheap and greedy and should be avoided always because you know they dont value their staff if they are cool throwing them in shacks with no privacy 🎉

After I retired from the Army I went back to school to become a Motorcycle tech, Almost directly after school I took a 5 year contract job as a traveling tech for Indian Motorcycles, While I travelled I lived in a 16 foot pull behind camper while keeping notes of everywhere I went for 3 months at a time, my likes of the area, dislikes of the area, Cost of Living, tax rates and all that while spending very little. After that contract ended in June of this year I came back to one of the dealerships I worked at during that 5 years and liked the area not just the dealership and paid cash for an 8 acre plot of raw land that had a 18x24 (432 sq feet) building on it. I lived in my camper while I gutted the building and built a completely off grid tiny house, once again with cash. I now live in the tiny house completely debt free and still have a good chunk of change left in the bank and this spring I will start building my homestead, I'm not going "full bore" on my homestead, I'll have some chickens, plant a decent size garden and plant some fruit trees/bushes so I'll still have to buy SOME things but that will give me a chance to socialize outside of work which is really important to your mental health when living off grid/homestead.

Channels like this will become increasingly popular as people opt out of housing and rentals. I think it's something that the larger economy isn't paying attention to, and by the time they realise it, It will be too late to turn people back towards property.

I would like to think that we, as a human race, have moved beyond barbaric behaviors such as not cleaning for the next person, which is a health violation. So inexcusable. The lack of response is alarming, but a sign of the world's outlook: "yeah, it's going to happen." The non-caring, who cares, etc., attitude is the problem with the world. It is an easy out, no commitment, they don't have to get off the couch to do anything. We seem to be moving backward as a human race, these days. You are now in a good place, thank goodness! I look forward to your future adventures. 💞
