There were originally 30 books in the Oxford Reading Tree, and there are now around 400. They are used by over 80% of British primary schools to help children learn to read, in addition to schools in more than 120 other countries.....100 of millions productions
Thank you Thank you Thank you, Shoo Rayner! for this absolutely wonderful video. I've been listening to your advice of keep practicing and well, I started drawing when I was 3 but got lost in the middle and stopped somewhere in my mid 20's. I started drawing again with a gap of 5-6 years so thanks for the inspiration! I'm drawing out characters for my first children's book :)
A very good interview there Shoo. I hadn't heard of this chap until you started talking about the characters in his books. Then I remembered the names from books I read to my children when they were at school! I loved the part when Alex spoke of his books 'evolving' over the years and having to be 'brought up to date'! (Big TVs etc.). Hey Shoo, perhaps you'll end up with an MBE sometime?! ;) Great award you created at the end!
excellent episode you really ramped up the show with this one and i'm looking forward to seeing the next episode on how Alex goes about drawing his characters for books, more like this please really interesting content. well done good move!
Can we read oxford reading tree books on you tube for educational purposes? Or it will be counted as copyright crime? (I know it's not relevant to your channel but could you answer that?)
@@shooraynerdrawing.. I mean these books are so popular with children and young people that they should be counted as everyone's property!.. I was just wondering if it was okay and could possibly be fair use!? If it's theft then I am not gonna do that! That's why I asked the question in the first place. Thank you for your reply, Sir 🙂
fairiesnjesters, I'm afraid Kipper the dog is someone else's character. I draw Kipper the boy. And he came first. As for the comments in general, I agree, Shoo did a wonderful job, without a script and tv production team in place. Thank you all for your kind comments and sorry to any who were bored - I can only talk about what I know (which isn't a lot). Regarding selling my originals, I've only done it once. Perhaps one day I'll have an exhibition or sell them online... I see it as my pension!
What a lovely interview! Thanks. Both of you did a wonderful job.

Shoo this was a great interview. I was hoping to get a glimpse of the art materials used and methods. Always fun to look at someone's art stash :-)
I had my kids watch this interview. They have read so many of these books!
And I just saw that you are an illustrator yourself. I went and had a look. You are quite amazing too!
You must do more interviews like this :). Very interesting.

Don't think anyone is going to catch you, but whoever is posting it is committing theft - as will you! tricky, huh?!
