I really enjoy Scott's narration. I find it very comforting. I like his tempo, cadence, and inflection. I am much more likely to try a new audiobook if I see that Scott is narrating it.
Scott Brick is the best narrator in the business, hands down. The Clive Cussler and Tom Clancy novels he narrates are spot on. I have started getting audiobooks based on his narration instead of strictly on the author or story.
+Brandt Johnson I first heard him in Support & Defend and he sounds a lot more like Frasier Crane in it. I hadn't heard him in any other audiobooks before this one. I like this one as it seems held back and a little more controlled than in Support & Defend
"The Company" was the first time I paid attention to the narrator of an audiobook. After listening to Scott do that book I started purchasing books based solely on the fact that Scott was reading. An AWESOME narrator that puts you *IN* the story. You don't listen when he's reading. You experience.
Scott Brick seems a nice fellow and his birthday greeting to a mature fan was touching. Many believe he's a superb narrator. Just among the male voices, however, it's likely Mr. Brick will admit Frank Muller is without peer. Then listen to George Guidall, Simon Vance, Humphrey Bower, Will Patton, John Lee, Tom Stechschulte, Simon Prebble, Edward Herrmann, Stefan Rudnicki and Ron McLarty. If you still believe Scott Brick is the best, you're entitled to your opinion.
Ha - how cool is this video. Scott does an amazing job and I'm always very happy to see his name appear as narrator on many of the books I've enjoyed over the years. In fact there are many books I've read just because he's been narrating them. Excellent job and keep up the great work!
Let's be clear: I'm not saying Scott is infallible, nor am I rescinding the possibility of not enjoying any other works I have yet to come across. But, I have already heard a half dozen titles, and he delivers value to my satisfaction: So far, So good. And, even if I weren't to like a work of an artist, I wouldn't discount the good I've already heard, and wouldn't be so radical in a public tirade. I respect artists very deeply especially when they're as committed as this one!
I love this guy's voice... Amazing... Seriously... I've listened to his reading of 'The Millionares' by Brad Meltzer.... Awesome... I hope he does more... Thanks so much for posting!!! 5*!
Without a doubt, Scott Brick is the most awesome Audio Narrator in the business. I've probably listen to 100+ audiobooks in the last 12 months and I can honestly say, of all the narrators I've listen to, he is the best, hands down. I've never specifically sought out Scott Brick, but I can tell you that I was pleased whenever I found out that he was narrating the book I chose. Everyone has their own opinion, but I can say that Scott Brick has at least 1 fan for life.
I love his voice 🙌 I first heard him on an Pendergast novel of Preston and Childs. I miss him doing their books!!! He is a fantastic reader and I look for any book that he's the reader. 😊
he reads everything like the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. I bet he'd be in awe at the beauty of a brutal rape scene meant to inspire hatred for one character and distressed sympathy for another. We'll know within the year.
i read that book in one day lol it kept me awake till 3AM! and because of that i didnt go to work the next day! now its YOUR turn! GO READ IT! same thing wiht Hold Tight and Gone For Good! now im reading Tell No One 168 pages in one day! Promise Me here i come!
I first heard SB narrate the Shannara series (authored by Terry Brooks), and immensely enjoyed the experience. Listening to his subsequent works, I find that his technique is aging like a fine wine. It's fair for some to not like Scott's works, but there's no such thing as pleasing everybody. In this case, I'm rather glad I'm not too difficult to entertain :)
@PEMontgomery -- "The Company" is also the first time I actually started searching based on Scott Brick's work. This is how I discovered Nelson DeMille's books.
I recently finished Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, now I'm listening to The Bourne Identity... he's great. Some say he's too melodramatic, but I like his style. He does good accents too :)
Questions : 1. When recording, do you use a copy of the book, or a printout? I never hear any pages turn. 2. On average, how long do you record before having to stop? Your recordings always seem flawless and I'm wondering if you have to re-record certain sections over and over if you get tongue tied. 3. Do you read a chapter to yourself a few times before you record it? So you know what kind of emphasis to use when doing a character's voice? Or do you do all that on the fly?
Hey guys check out a book trailer by Derrick Wiggins. This could be a new way to audio books, I'd like to call it a audio book slide show. Goto megadwiggins. It's a thriller and introduces the prologue and five chapters of the novel.
I listen to audio books while I work. And, I've experienced more than one favorite title ruined by his unnecessarily melodramatic style. Now, when I see an audiobook narrated by Brick, I look to see if there is another version. Oddly, the man is popular... Then again, so is McDonalds. And, when something could be as good and savory as filet mignon, Brick will only ever deliver the Big Mac version.
Perhaps his style works better in non-fiction, the only books I've listened to in his narration. I've listened to a pair of Michael Pollan books, but I'll probably read them myself soon.
@Munkatten Hey... There's nothing wrong with liking Big Macs. Once in a while. This guy's whisper-cresendo-whisper melodrama is EVERYWHERE. You can't avoid him. Also, like McDonald's...
The clip doesn't make it obvious to the casual observer, so people who don't do a lot of audiobooks may not get it. A narrator does not have to overdo it. Personally, I wish the guy well, but his unnecessarily melodramatic style is too much for me. A lot of people call a book "bricked" once he's read it. Google "Scott Brick sucks" and read the comments. A bunch of people wrote what they think of him and the books he's ruined. Go check it out, funny stuff.
wow. that sounds pretty personal, considering you're not following up with specifics. I belong to the larger cross section of opinion that enjoys his talent. *shrugs*
If you combined the acting skills of Keanu Reeves , the voice of William Shatner, the most sarcastic know-it-all academic and threw in the hammiest silent film actor of all time then you would have Scott Brick's audiobook formula. It is a formula repeated over and over and over and over again. He's the worst.
check out the audiobook version of "helter skelter", the book about the manson murders... it's not a novel... he absolutely nails it in this one... it feels like you're watching some old film noir flick... it's so fucking good... no whiny voice there... just pure theatralic crime awesomeness...
I'm new to audiobooks, and for one of my first books I chose a Dune Prequel which I've read and loved. I listened for hundreds of pages with this narrator grating on my nerves. I tried it again recently with the same reaction, thinking perhaps it would be different now that I've listened to quite a few books, but I still found him way over the top with continuous non-stop over dramatization. Even mundane segments are read with the same drama. I guess this narrator is just not for me. He IS good, though, never misses a beat. Narrating a book has got to be one of the more difficult things to do.
This man RUINS everything he narrates... Constant over the top melodrama that trumps the story, is NEVER in keeping with teh spirit of the work or the author's intentions... this fool seems to think people are more interested in him and his hammy performances than the actual book. Just because something is popular doesn't mean it is good - as most people follow and assume if other's like it, then it must be good.
Scott Brick is one of the best. A favorite of mine.
Amazing. This guy is just awesome. I cried just listening to him read ' Six years'
I really enjoy Scott's narration. I find it very comforting. I like his tempo, cadence, and inflection. I am much more likely to try a new audiobook if I see that Scott is narrating it.

His narration of Jurassic Park is my favorite!!
I love this guy's voice... Amazing... Seriously...
I've listened to his reading of 'The Millionares' by Brad Meltzer.... Awesome... I hope he does more...
Thanks so much for posting!!! 5*!
I listen to books Im not even interested in just because this man reads them. He is without question the BEST!!!.
He narrates the Dune series and Blade Runner, love it
Narrator of the Year in 2007 and richly deserved.
Check out ANY of the Robert Littell books he's read, but particularly LEGENDS.

Scott, I really enjoyed your reading of Write it after I'm Gone. Your voice and style are so natural, I was convinced the narrator was really you!
he reads everything like the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. I bet he'd be in awe at the beauty of a brutal rape scene meant to inspire hatred for one character and distressed sympathy for another. We'll know within the year.
Best. Narrator. Ever.
I love Scott Brick... especially the Nelson Demille stuff!! Getting the George Washington stuff next!!!
I can't waite for his version of Atlas Shrugged!
i read that book in one day lol
it kept me awake till 3AM!
and because of that i didnt go to work the next day!
now its YOUR turn! GO READ IT!
same thing wiht Hold Tight and Gone For Good!
now im reading Tell No One
168 pages in one day!

You should really hear his rendition of THE COMPANY a novel of the CIA. Wow. Russians, Germans, Hungarians, Men, Women he makes it all so captivating.
He read Helter Skelter and it was amazing.
He really is the best
I think he's amazing. He really sold Robert Charles Wilson's "Spin" series for me, amongst others.
@DFXrunner He sounds completely different when he did Washington : a Life and it was fantastic.

I really like Jeremy Northam

This is intense
You need to get out more.
"It was influenza. ONLY influenza."
Only the flu... /relvent #covid-19
Well, there is a reason he is the most prolific narrator on audible. The rest of the English speaking world seems to like what he's doing.
@Munkatten Hey... There's nothing wrong with liking Big Macs. Once in a while. This guy's whisper-cresendo-whisper melodrama is EVERYWHERE. You can't avoid him. Also, like McDonald's...

I am not sure why, but he reminds me of a youngish Orson Welles.
wow. that sounds pretty personal, considering you're not following up with specifics. I belong to the larger cross section of opinion that enjoys his talent. *shrugs*
he looks like Dr. House hahaha

I love Scott, but this is almost like watching sausage being made.
Every audio reader irritates me in some way - except Scott :)
I can't listen to anything he narrates. same melodramatic whiny voice in every book every line he reads
