    Good idea. When I was 15 and had been building for 5 yrs, my father and I built the Revell Cutty Sark with every line of standing and running rigging. We both learned from each other and gained respect for each other too. That was in 1959 and I still have that ship in a case I made for it in wood shop in middle school later. I have never ever regretted time and money spent modeling.
    Thanks for your channel.

    Really good reflections here Ben. I think you are spot on with "if you don't enjoy or relax with it, move on or take a break". I sometimes get to the point where it feels like it is more work than enjoyment, or I get disappointed that I didn't do better. At that point I just leave it for a week or a month even, and only go back when I get the "mojo" back. Quite often that has actually been after I have watched your videos. So thank you for that!

    I struggle with PE and I’d love too see some of techniques you use, cutting them, handling them and most importantly not destroying them. Maybe I’m just clumsy, but some tips would be good.

    Ben, this was so cool. We'd messaged about the "one thing" concept before, but I didn't fully get the entire idea until this video. Love how you put it. Adding more and more skills to your toolbox is what allows folks to produce beautiful models. Please do more of this series. :)

    I like the idea of this video format. A simple off the cuff style. If I may make a suggestion, how about a short (30 - 60 sec.) tips and tricks spot in each Shop Talk episode. For instance, care and storage of brushes, Masking, paint mixing/thinning, type and use of various glues. You could also add a spot where you take one of your older models and tell us if there was anything you would do differently. love all of your videos. Great modeling.
    Take care,
    Steve

    Ben, an enjoyable chat. Looking forward to the next one. How about 'what do you do when you hit a brick wall, and you are the type who will not give up'? I think there are quite a few builders who are like that, me included! Enjoy the weekend.

    Good idea for a series and looking forward to hearing future topics.
    I get bogged down in all the details on my kits and keeps me from building more than I know I could because I self paralyze

    One thing I've wondered about Ben; are you running an actual retail outlet, called the Midwest Model Shop? Is it more of a channel name, or just what you call your hobby room? It makes absolutely no difference, just curious.😁

    Your lucky you had the support from your family with the hobby - in my twenties built a helicopter/airfield diorama in a glass top coffee table gave it to my father for Xmas he had it in the family room for couple weeks then he ripped it apart dumped the coffee table gave the models to my kid brother who destroyed them months later he said I should stop playing with toys and grow up - I'm in my 60's now got back into the hobby last couple years - my old man in his 80's now so don't show him what I've been building or talk about the hobby with him whatsoever

    • @TheMidwestModelShop
      @TheMidwestModelShop  2 года назад +1

      That’s a bummer. I would build him another coffee table and just leave it on his front porch.
