I can safely say, that Terrifier is a piece of media. Thus ends my review.
Roger Ebert is turning in his grave at this review
The simplicity of this movie is what makes it brilliant, along with David Howard Thorton's performance as Art. When you think about all of the slasher films that have been around for over 4 decades, I would put Art at the top of a list right under Freddie Krueger for originality.
The gore effects I think are damn good overall. Part 2 is a delight. Though 30 minutes too long.
"Why didn't they call this movie art the clown?" ... I don't why didn't they call Friday the 13th "Jason Vorhees?" Why didn't they call Nightmare on Elm Street "Freddy Krueger" or Halloween "Michael Myers?" 😂
The hypocritical nature of this review is crazy.
He's the perfect new clown monster, the last clown demon monster we need. What a guy!
Why is it that to this day, the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still ten times creepier than this torture-porn schlock?
And unsettling.
Probably because it's inspired by a true story, tbh. Real life is sometimes way more terrifying.
Too harsh! Lighten up!
Nice to see you guys again. I've been away for about a year.
I had a friend that was really upset after putting over the hacksaw scene and my response was "Yeah the one in Bone Tomahawk was better." 🤣
I am so afraid to watch Bone Tomahawk even though it has MF Kurt Russell in it. I heard about the hacksaw scene, and I haven’t had the courage to watch it. It is now on Tubi the free streaming channel. 🙂
I remember wanting to like it (I love low budget gore films) but Terrifier really had no plot or tangible characters. I like at least some kind of bare bones story or mildly interesting people I can invest in for a film to work. Oh well, I’m just glad I seem to be in the minority when it comes to this film but there are enough films that feature gore for gores sake out there. It shouldn’t be that hard to craft a story around the characters so we can at least feel something when they are butchered.
Nah, I agree. I'm afraid I can't stand this flaming film. lol
I agree, I was sooo bored with it's story and characters (or rather lack of mentioned).
I appreciate the effort, I always do and support independent and original horrors, I guess it's just not for me :)
same thing I said, the second one fixed those issues. doesn't make the first one good, but the second one is pretty decent.
I enjoyed it for what it was but I completely understand and you made some valid points.
I don't get the love for either of these movies to be honest there nothing more then gore reels. Unlike Friday the 13th which has fun with itself these movies take themselves seriously but the gore is so over the top I start to laugh at points in the sequel. So the movies aren't fun and they have no story or interesting characters beyond the lead chick in part 2 . So the films just feel like vapid gore reels from what I see fans of these only like them for the practical effects but for me I never just loved B movie slashers because of the gore that was a plus but they still had stories and characters that gripped me and made me interested Terrifier has none of that beyond a clown gimmick.
No other actor would do [probably] It's the actor that made this work at all. He's very charming and sells the bit every time.
Cheers guys. I have learned such a lot from you chaps. Horror Films isn't really my gig, so it is fun to learn what audiences consider constitutes horror. Huge chuckles and guffaws always ensue in your reviews. In the words of Iain: "Atypical" of you fellahs.
1st 35k budget. It's a nice break from elevated horror. I am pretty sure Damien Leon didn't expect the film to be taken too seriously. I enjoy it quite a bit love Terrifier 2 more. I gotta say this is miles better than the travesty called Halloween Ends. That made me physically ill.
Fantastic and great point! I couldn't agree with this more!
One of the rare times I actually agree with Ian. The movie is a one trick pony, that looses its appeal as the movie goes along. If you want a compelling story, that’s intelligent and intriguing, don’t watch this stupid series. If you are into torcher porn, go for it! I disagree with Gary though…..this isn’t horror.
Mike Flanagan, the midnight mass and haunting of hill house guy really vocally loves the terrifier movies- The stuff he makes is pretty interesting, so it’s hard to write these off as completely hollow, but the lack of any mythology or rules definitely diminishes my interest in them.
Im hoping the third movie reveals some of Arts backstory or where hes from.....I think he's a demonic entity. Or at least being controlled by one.
I'm with Iain on this one. No real plot or direction. Just a lot of gore for the sake of gore although I'm a fan of practical effects. Maybe the sequel will enlighten me but didn't have a desire to see it based on this one. Will check it out now to see if it fill in any gaps but expectations are low.
The second is no better and is an hour too long. I also get the unpleasant feeling that the director doesn't like women.
The first is very poor. 2nd is better but still average, however i really enjoyed the 3rd! Much more balanced and has real characters worthy of investment and excellent kills. Rare that a franchise gets better with each installment.
I can see where One guy is coming from regarding *Gore* in Horror Films not being needed in the end. Often times the effects are SO Ridiculous over the Top that I start to laugh in *disbelieve* rather than being Shocked
I have not seen this one yet... But, I love your reviews so I had to check it out.
You guys gotta do a review of the 2nd Terrifier. I thought they were both pretty awesome but the second one had more of a budget and really hit the ground running,Art is so interesting BECAUSE he has no backstory....it just makes your imagination run wild....is he a demon is he just some evil serial killer dors he have some kind of demonic powers is he a demons puppet like.....so many questions and honestly I thought the gore looked awesome and was a amazing throwback to the 80s and what I always wanted to see from a Jason Vorhees type killer. Although Art is even more sick and demented.
Awesome lads I've been waiting for this! Hope all is well with you both 👊
Is Art really a clown? he looks and act more like a mime especially with the whole black and white color theme on his character you only see that on mimes.
Other than that love this movie i too highly recomend this.
Keep up the great work Gary and Iain👍
And greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱
Why do they keep calling him a clown, you're right. Art the mime more like it. Mimes just piss me off.
He's a pierrot really
You just blew my mind! You are so right. lols kudos and cheers.

Ah sir iain! All the reasons you gave for being hesitant to like this movie are the exact reasons WHY I had a good time watching!
Damien did say in interviews that there were people throwing up or passing out Ina screening, but Damian Stated that those people had probably done edibles or, shrooms before the movie and had a negative reaction.
This one was kind of middle of the road for me with Art being the only standout point but I was surprised just how much I enjoyed the sequel
I absolutely love all of the Art the Clown films, and Terrifier 3 is one the top five best horror movies ever made. That said, these movies are not for everyone.
First one is just an average dull gorefest but the second is an insult. Leone thinks this crap has a "mythos" worth 2 and a half hours?? And does every cliche from the "chosen one" to the "magic sword".....it's like he had a fantasy movie in mind but could only get funding for his clown character again so somehow put the two together.
I'm on a channel called Sea Of Tranquility on The Monster's Den show and we did Terrifier 2 a few months back and in a rarity all disliked it/hated it. I think a couple of us tolerated the first.
Well I'm not watching your crap.
@@GODCONVOYPRIME
How do you know it's crap?
I think the terrifier films, for me at least feels like my version of the devils rejects and the Amazon Prime show The Boys where everyone else loves that show and that film on the internet but I couldn't find the enjoyment or the humour in them and the formula of at least the latter tv show about having one character being slightly more a symbol of goodness in a mean-spirited world was done better in Terrifier 2 with Sienna Shaw and I just like the fact that Damien Leone is a DIY film-maker along the lines of Sam Raimi and George A Romero where he fiances his films himself and does what he wants without anyone breathing down his neck I can see why Iain doesn't like this one, but I think Terrifier 2 and 3 are really well made and I just found what Leone did with at and his adversary Sienna was much more compelling and there was this wonderful moment in Terrifier 3 where -
SPOILERS FOR TERRIFIER 3:
But when Art and Victoria have Sienna and her Aunt tied up in the chairs facing each other and they are about to killing the aunt there is this very beautiful moment where the aunt says through tears - 'I love you Sienna, please give them hell!' and I though that really cemented it for me, one thing that this film does which Rob Zombie wishes he could do for me - was make me care when people die or are in peril
Great review guys as always and all the best
👍😊
There are few things more disappointing than violent movies that have the violence off-screen, or where there's violence throughout, but the villain(s) get a lame death.
I kinda like Funny Games. It's alright.
He made a Texas chainsaw poster tagline reference. What he said was very similar to that same tagline on that poster . As in who will survive in what pieces will be left of them ?
Another great review from you guys!!!
Chaps don’t split up please
The Terrifier flicks are what would happen if Looney Tunes took acid and decided to make horror movies.
Love your shows. Hope you do the Hatchet (Victor Crowley) movies sometime.... they are great fun
The movie shouldn’t have killed Tara she should of been like the Nancy to Freddy or Laurie to Myers
Nancy was killed too in part 3
@@markpugh6808 I know but they brought her back in new nightmare. I’m just saying most horror villains have a enemy who you root for, art just kills and you feel nothing for any of these victims. Except Tara She’s the only character I was wishing would live
@@Dani..663They didn't bring Nancy back.
Heather L. plays herself.
@@sidnew2739 she slowly turns into Nancy as the movie goes on
Oh I can’t wait for the review on the 2 one
the movie has interesting ideas, is not groundbreaking but the art character is engaging and carries the concept and the movie itself, one of those movies that can work for you or not.
"One of those movies that can work for you or not...." that's any film lmao
@@Grandmastergav86 yeah you are right in the sense that cinema as any media is subjective, and for example this movie has aspects some will praise and others dislike
In my opinion if u rewatch this multiple times u a maniac 😂😂😂 this is a one time watch for me definitely won’t be going back on it
I watched a censored version on RUclips and found it better in some ways than the original. It cuts out all of the stuff that looks so fake [because of how explicit it is] and makes it feel more real.
Thanks, Gary! Thanks, Iain! I'm going to have to watch these movies now.
This film is a B movie slashers dream, I loved it
The only thing good about this film is the performance of David Howard Thornton as art the clown the film it’s self is just terrible
Loved the review! I agree with some of the needless gore, some of it is good but when it's constant I find it to get dull. Review brainscan!
I have always been obsessed with horror, practical effects and makeup art. Hence why I love more gore! I love analyzing every bit of it and seeing how realistic it is. I love learning about the supplies used and so on. I have an excuse for why I want what I want, okay?😂
This evolving franchise has a surprisingly loyal following. Should I call it cult classic...maybe. It is very watchable, some damn good kill scenes & practical FX, way over the top which adds to the charm. Part 2 is more of the same & long @ 2h 18m. Overall I'm sure horror fans will have a lot of morbid fun...like always!!
In my opinion, this isnt horror. It is just an excuse for gore effects.
What the hell i was never notified 😢 sorry I missed the movie review gentleman am watching now
I’m with iain, the 5% of the film that’s the gore is well made with what they had but 95% of the movie is pretty much on par with a horror porn parody, awful awful acting and terrible writing
Such an amazing movie, but part 2 was so much funnier! An hour longer too
The second one was a top tier horror movie in my opinion....
@@xXCigarXx watched it with my brother, we laughed and laughed….. except for that weird dream sequence, the one that looked like a kid’s tv show. We stopped laughing then
I love old school low budget horror. These films are complete shite.
Number 2 is a goated slasher
Why does Iain attacks this movie so much? One would think this movie'd be right up his alley. He likes "Soldier" only because of Kurt Russell! And that movie suuuuucks.
I think the hype spoiled it for Ian. It sent him in thinking about all the other greats and trying to see this as grand as those causing him to nitpick a lot. I don't really love the franchise either but it's ok for what it is. It's just an excuse to have a creepy clown kill people in gruesome ways. That's really the only point.
Daeth wish review 😎💀☠
This is a weird one for me. I saw this upon it's release, and I hated it. However, now I've seen the sequel I really like this one too. Normally you'd need to watch part 1 to appreciate the sequel, but I think this the other way round. Part 2 gives you some background details on Art, and makes part 1 all the more fun. Definitely one to watch with mates when you link all the killings and tropes with a tequila drinking contest. Trust me, it's fun!!!
You have fun watching a girl be dismembered and flayed and then cry for her mom?
I watched the first one by accident when it first came out. I was confused by what it was actually going for. It felt like 3 different kinds of horror movies mixed into one, with cheap production value. I'd much rather watch "Don't breathe" again.
if ur a nerd that cares about narrative, subtext, tension, and all that shit (me), this movie is not for you. If you just want a series of funny and shocking kill scenes with a good performance from the killer, this definitely does that well.
This is awesome review
Terrifier 2 please guys
Iain my brother, I say this with all respect but it kinda felt like you just didnt want to like this movie. Dont get me wrong, its not brilliant, but many of your points felt nitpicky. Anyway, still love ya guys and look forward to your next vid.❤
Party of the fun that I had with this film the first time watching it was doing silly voices for Art and just having fun with how mean and nasty the whole thing was. By the end of my first viewing I had concocted this whole story of a disgruntled muder clown who proposed to a girl, took his frustrations out on her friend, got a divorce via gunshots to the head, meandered around the would-be-sister-in-law and then went on to screw over many more people.
It was a very fun evening.
When's the sequel review guys?
You should do ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK/L.A.
Film is just overrated. Unnecessary gore too.
Pretty facts honestly.
I love these movies so much.
Don’t sleep on Wrinkles the Clown.
its basically a demo reel for a special FX crew
Like American werewolf in London.
Iain, You are too harsh on the film.
A piss poor movie series. This is Horror by people who don't understand Horror for people who don't understand Horror. I adore old school low budget Horror but this is crap.
Yep. Boring and goring.
I’m glad this movie was a success in it’s own right coz I like supporting small productions!! Having said that, this film freaking sucked hard 😅
Didn’t like anything about the “story”, personal preference but yeah, for me it was boring and annoyingly looked fake but maybe that’s the point w/these films?? wasn’t for me but still glad the guys behind it made a huge profit coz big studios have been making horror films and getting away w/it for too long 😂
Don’t think the clown is anything close to the being an icon as the others but memorable none the less
Do Conan the barbarian
Agreed! 👍
I agree, Ian.
This film was too giallo for me, the second one did better by having a narrative throughline.
It’s a one off meaning it’s not rewatchable
There is a brilliant horror " CLOWN"' /2014/ which is way better than Terrifier-if you haven't seen it yet,I strongly recommend that movie.
As much as I love Iain, he bashes the shit out of this film too much.
Good video guys
21:45 its so funny how the edit made it look like art was the one laughing when the guy on the left was laughing 😂. Fookin HILARIOUS 😆
Anyways, imo, terrifier is overrated AF and only loved because of the excessive gore. Take that away and this series wouldn't have nearly as many fans. It's NOTHING without the gore.
The second terrifier is worse than the first one and they just simply tried too hard. The direction they're going with the story is so bad and all over the place. And it seems like Damien Leone has no clue what he's doing
🤔
Not for me.
It's poorly written gore with no real story.
me when the special effects project is centered on the special effects: 😲
I only saw the second one, but this one seems to be the same senseless excuse for sadistic gore.
Art IS a good villain, but these are not good movies.
How far is too far in regards to pushing boundaries?
Don't wanna be that guy but Tara is b-e-a-utiful 😍😍😅😅🧐👍
Literally literally literally
I honestly don't know what the appeal to this and the other movies in this series is. I mean when it comes to horror like the blob hey more gore of that please! That's not to take away from the amazing special make up effects cause goddamn that's a work of I hate to say it art because the attention to detail and all that that's awesome all the credit to them but the way it's used? Yeah I'll stick to stuff like return of the living dead 1 and 2 and stuff like I said, the blob. Besides clowns don't scare me, I actually think they're funny, way I see it you've seen one slasher you've seen em all. Plus he uses a gun. He's not a slasher if he uses a gun if anything he's just a mass shooter and we have enough of those in real life.
Is that The Blob '88?
@@turntheblueiris4626 oh you know it.
@@GODCONVOYPRIME Yes! Fantastic film, although the amount of mullet was rather gratuitous, I thought ;)

There are no stakes in the film. It all feels meaningless. Meaningless gore is why people like it. It's a reflection on society.
I like it because I hate people and love seeing them get butchered by psychopaths it's why horror slasher films are my favourite
@@markpugh6808 have you considered in Minecraft suicide?
You proved his point. Stay away from children
Hell yeah.

Love that the argument against the movie is...this looks like a movie. Why isn't the shit and blood real? I mean you've seen worse movies.
This is a very nihilistic film a direct reflection of reality.
Terrifier 1 was not bad. Silly but still, not bad. Part 2 however, is insanely stupid and totally overrated.
shelf life!
No.

Bloody hell, Gary is having to play father figure to his muddle headed foul mouthed mate who just doesn't make any sense at all.
Ian is totally right.
This is such a primitive, boring gore-fest.

Have never seen Terrifier or its sequel, going and watching Terrifier 3 in theaters with a packed crowd was fuckinng fantastic!
Anyone thinking about seeing the new one without seeing this and its sequel first, do it!
Go into the movie thinking it’s nothing more than a schlocky and campy poorly acted movie with intense gore effects but buy into it.
Terrifier 3 knows exactly what it is and does the B movie campy horror movie the best I’ve ever seen. Art the Clown knows he’s a villain and thrives on it.
Best I can explain it is imagine the Toxic Avenger if Toxie was fucking evil and wanted to cause as much violence and bodily harm as possible mixed with the part of the anthology Tales from the Crypt with the serial killing Santa Claus mixed with Jingle All the Way and Evil Dead. That’s your movie.
Thanks guys.
