Absolutely, these scenes are crucial to the film's plot, especially the final scene with Jezebel since in the theatrical cut she basically just kind of vanishes from the plot. John Carpenter's Christine is another film that really needs a director's cut as there were a ton if important scenes cut.
Agreed. Jacob’s Ladder is a phenomenal film which I enjoyed re-watching on Crave last week. I’m especially glad that I saw it in the cinema when I was 20 because it had such a personally fulfilling impact.
That be cool but I'm satisfied with my blu-ray, has a making of n a directors commentary track. I love listening to Lynne, nice calm voice. Sometimes I play it while going to sleep lol
If there was one scene that absolutely needed to be included it's the Jezebel scene, that scene is so crucial to the story for so many reasons and cutting it made everyone wonder why she disappeared from the film.
Fantastic film. I loved their philosophy of dying and the demons as angels... truly would like to see the original film in its entirety although its one of my favorites just the way it is.
I love it too. It is one of my favorites. The deleted scenes are just that in this case, and were left out because they weren't ultimately deemed good and necessary. There is no director's cut because the director felt the scenes deleted, while good, were not ideal; there is no "Lyne version" and "BJR version".
Test audiences are supposed to represent the average filmgoing public, which needless to say, are not the brightest bunch in the world. Unfortunately movies cost extravagant amounts of money to produce, so film studios need to justify that amount of expenses by creating a movie they think will turn a nice profit, which is why most of them, especially modern, mainstream Hollywood movies, are total pandering drivel. And yet the audiences still eat them up...
Directors cut is needed I always felt like the movie wasn't as cohesive as it could be and more tame than it should be. If there's a 4k Blu ray out there with deleted scenes as extras I might do an edit
It's not a typical fun horror flick it's rather more complex than that and it's really sad because Jacob had been through so much hell and didn't deserve it. At least he got to see his son in the end they were at peace in heaven 🙏
Also missing is when Jacob arrives at mat Craven's character apartment and finds him decapitated....also another scene with Jacob outside protesting against the military.
@@AllIsSymbol the movie is very intense, yes. Smart, gory, scary and beautifuly filmed. I hope, that one day we'll see the original cut. If you read the final draft of the script, you'll find lots of interesting scenes. Everything was filmed, but was butchered in cutting room. Sorry for my bad english.
This is incredible because unlike every other screening for an American audience, lets use Blade Runner as an example, they showed it and decided it was explaining and doing TOO much (cutting those parts out and leaving more up for interpretation and relying more on the subtleties of filmmaking), whereas nobody understood Blade Runner so they added in tons of unnecessary voice over for exposition which ended up being removed in the director's cut anyway.
Its very interesting seeing these deleted scenes and will be good to see a new version but I fully support the original release with the cuts made. And Adrian Lyne summed it up perfectly when he said it would have been overkill. We don't need to be hand held.
There is a shortened version of this on the Artisan DVD but this version was aired on Showtime directly after some showings of the movie on that channel. It's fantastic to see it again, as there are some interview bits that don't appear on the DVD.
So the thing I never understood is if he was dying how did the chemist him know in real time what happened then my 19 year old daughter watched it only once and said "the chemist had died before Jacob and he's telling him in the afterlife"
There’s a reason why a lot of the scenes that are cut & no one has seen them 🙄 just from the descriptions I heard about the scenes they sounded like they didn’t really add much to the story anyway but mostly they are pretty Horrific including one scene where Jacob is in a subway bathroom and finds a man sexually assaulting another man 😖🤢 another scene where he finds a decapitated head in a cabinet there is a longer version of the girl turning into a lizard when she’s dancing which was already strangely violent so I’m sure the longer version is worse & The scene where Jacob is delivering mail and one of the mail bag starts moving 🤔 there is a homeless man sleeping in the bag Jacob lets him out of the bag and get him some food or something 😳🤷♂️ There is also one scene where he burns down a military base but like I said most of the scenes cut sounded like they didn’t really add much to the story anyway and we’re cut just because they were too shocking
Some of the scenes you're talking about are actually available online, at least partially! I've seen the metro scene with the two men, and I agree that it didn't bring anything to the movie and would have made the metro scene less interesting. There is also the scene of mail bag moving floating around, but not the homeless man part. I still wish we could see all the scenes in a director's cut special edition, and decide for ourselves. You're the second person I see on the internet mentionning a decapitated head, the other one even said it was the scientist's head. So now I'm super curious!
@@helianthe3457 I saw that scene too, the two men in the bathroom stall...I thought it should have been included because it really created a feeling of shock, embarrassment/surprise at barging in on them, a feeling of being out-of-place or in a dangerous place, and a feeling of both extreme vulnerability (the man being raped) and dominating brutality (the rapist -- if it indeed was rape, I can't tell). The overall feeling is one of being in a world that is supposed to be normal and predictable but in reality Jacob is in a world where anything vile, penetrative, and brutal can and does happen; unprotected vulnerability exposed, exploited.

We need a Criterion or Scream Factory release, with a director's cut and this doc as well.

Does the full cut still exist

Keith David on the voiceover!
There are more cut scenes, some of which we see briefly in the trailer. Wish they could release the full cut that was showed at test screenings.
20 minutes of cut footage cos audience are too thick to understand what's going on
...Really helps you understand the story a lil more...but the "antidote" scene is gorgeous and such beautiful special effects for the room 😮
More Silent Hill than the Silent Hill movie was, amazing 👏 ❤
Exactly!
I was shocked when they said 1/4th of the original movie was cut. Someone needs to rerelease the full movie some day.

Creepy, trippy, sad, happy, great movie
You really do have to wonder where they find test audiences.... do they scoop them out of the queue for Fast n Furious 15 ??
If you knew you'd think Jacob had it easy.
I know right, it actually gets me agitated, stupid test audiences have ruined too many movies.

This is such a great movie scary but fascinating as well maybe we'll actually get the full uncut version of the movie
Holy shit, that was some intense stuff😳
I feel like they should have left all of this in!

This movie was totally bananas. Glad i watched it. Just mad i have nothing better to say, lol
why did they have to cut all this, it's like 15 minutes more, but the whole movie becomes much more interesting and coherent
almost 30 minutetes was cut. Cause test audiens was... well, shocked. It was too much.
@@creatorsunionSVERDLOVSK I mean, even the actual movie is kinda hursh to diggest all in one. I'm still kinda shocked after seeing it like 30 min ago.

I'm glad they left them out. while good effects, they would have been too detracting to the final point.
This movie was brilliant and the remake sucked. SOOOO bad some movies don't need to be remade
