You'd better have it checked mate. I was like you and never used to give it a second thought, until i've suffered an heart attack 3 weeks ago.
It turned out my cholesterol was through the roof. I stopped taking my medications 2 years ago when i started Keto diet, thinking i knew better.
But if you're like me with the high cholesterol running in your family, you're affected by Familial Hypercholesterolemia which means that regardless of what you eat your cholesterol will always be high, and that you do need the statins to keep it in check.
Do not take everything said in this video at face value, because you and i are different and we're in far greater danger of developing cardiovascular diseases.
And bare in mind i am very fit, i go to the gym and keep my weight down, and i can honestly say i've got the keto duet to thank for it. But even so the keto also gave me high saturated fats, which increased my cholesterol, which clogged up my arteries, which gave me an heart attack that could have been fatal. You need to take the saturated fats out of your diet, and you must absolutely keep your cholesterol under check, failure to do so and you might end up like me.

Not true. LDL provides nutrients to the brain. When I read that 10 years ago, I realized why someone I knew died of Alzheimers. It made sense in an instant. The fact that it is documented now doesn't change the obvious. If you block the mechanism that carries nutrients, you will suffer. Lowering LDL has terrible effects, not no effect.

He tried everything from diet and exercise to drugs, nothing made a difference in his Cholesterol levels. In his 80’s, due to a bad lead on a stress test, he was subjected to an unnecessary angiogram. After the procedure the cardiologist literally asked him “Doc can you tell me why we just did this angiogram”. It was then they discovered the bad lead problem. However, the interesting part was when they reviewed the angiogram they could find no significant changes. They found that the sweet spot was around 240 and even higher( like 270) the older people were. In other words, cholesterol is protective. Those with fairly high chill iced the longest. I am no longer the government's or industry's guinea pig, a royal subject, nor their personal property!
The statin was for the cholesterol gave me actual bouts of temporary amnesia. I would not know where I was, though everything looked familiar, for up to twenty minutes at a time. It would occur during my commute to/from work. The first few times was terrifying. She said I was imagining it. Since then, I learned this is not an uncommon side effect.
For the blood pressure meds, I went full keto and eliminated as close to 100% of carbohydrates as possible form my diet. It took a year, but I lost nearly 60 pounds (210 down to an average of 155) and now my blood pressure is a solid, pressure gauge calibrating, 120/80. Easy peasy.

Problem is, today's generation of " doctors " are really just nothing more than glorified medical technicians who have fully bought, hook-line-and-sinker, and impose onto their patients, the often UNHEALTHY medical advice (incl statin Rx scripts) spawn from the false " medical " instruction foisted onto them by the Big Pharma controlled western medical schools.
It's all mostly a big Pharma racket. It really is. Furthermore, at least some doctors out there have posited (my previous now retired PCP included) that statins may have, at least in part, contributed to the growing accounts of cardio myopathy and CH Failure in this country, and I the west I general.😅

About 3 months ago my doctor prescribed rosuvastatin for very high cholesterol. The first month I didn't take it because I still wasn't sure if I wanted to go that route. I finally decided to give it a try, and for about a month I took the med, but irregularly, so maybe a total of three weeks. I developed such severe pain in one hip that I almost had to walk with a cane. In that short time, my cholesterol decreased by HALF! But at what cost?! My doctor said " just stop the medication for 5 days, and the pain will subside". It has been two weeks, and although it is less painful, it has not completely subsided. It just makes me wonder what other damage is being done by such a powerful chemical.

I ask her what my numbers were and this is what she said...Total cholesterol 196, HDL 60, LDL 114, Triglycerides 112, Ratio 3.28 I told her those numbers weren’t even high enough for me to be on meds. My mom's doctor (she's our family doc) wanted to put her on a statin. I pointed out mom's great numbers for triglycerides, HDL, and A1C and the doctor still wanted to do it. I brought up the different sizes in LDL and she said even if they did that test, the outcome wouldn't affect the treatment. We agreed to get mom a calcium score before we move forward with a statin. I like this doctor, she's very kind and capable, she just gets hung up on the wrong numbers.

My doctor sent me for a cholesterol test over 15 years ago because I took a test in one of those mobile side of the road tests. They prick the finger, take a bit of blood and run it through a test machine. The test result came back high, and they recommended I visit my doctor. He set an appointment in the hospital for a cholesterol test. The staff were concerned that I hadn't fasted for the test. They phoned my doctor to ask him why. He said it wasn't warranted. I never got the test rusults back either way, but next time I visited him over a chest viral infection I asked him why I never got the cholesterol results back. He said he indeed got the results and everything was fine. I didn't believe him. Either way, after research, a dietician discovered that one of my favourite dishes was shrimp and prawn dishes. Apparently they are full of cholesterol, but not the bad sort. The test I had in the mobile test van gave a high cholesterol reading, and thats because I had a big shrimp meal the day before. So dont start taking meds folks unless you have a proper fast test that will give you a good and bad cholesterol result. You just can't trust doctors or mobile test centres that should know about your diet, and they clearly dont because neither the doctor or the mobile asked me about my diet . 15 years on and I still dont take cholesterol meds.

From memory, last I checked for statins the NNT (Number Needed to Treat) 300, the NNH (Number Needed to Harm) 45. So first off you have to feed it to 300 people for one person to benefit. Second, for every person that benefits, 6 - 7 people have significant to serious side effects. Sounds good to me...
Also from memory, one of the first large scale statin trials: What was published, "lower heart incident for statin group", what was not published "higher mortality rate for statin group".
    Thx Dr. Berry.

So I’ve been on a strict carnivore diet-thanks to Dr. Berry-for the past 4 1/2 months, and I feel fantastic! I had labs done at the local VA about 4 days ago, and my total cholesterol number was 315 (previously 199) and my LDL (DIRECT) number was 239 (previously 130). I met with my primary VA doctor today to discuss my labs and she zeroed in particularly on the excessively high LDL number, saying that meant my arteries were full of plaque and they might have to do an angioplasty. I was expecting her to be somewhat alarmed, but yikes! So she’s scheduling me to meet with a nutritionist to discuss this radical diet, the one that significantly lowered my triglyceride number (91), A1C number (5.2) and PSA number (1.956), and raised my HDL number (47). Something tells me I’m about to hear a speech about the benefits of the Standard American Diet. Oh, I’m 65 1/2 years old, 5’ 6” tall and weigh 137 lbs-I’m a sprinting speed demon on the pickleball court! Total fat is about 6%. Does an LDL score of 239 mean that the arteries are full of plaque and I’m at greater risk of coronary artery disease? Anybody?

Here are some questions I have about this chart: 1) Statins have been in use for a very long time. Why does this chart start in the year 2000? 2) Even though there appears to be a disconnect in the parallel direction of the data after 2012, how do we explain what is happening from 2000-2012 where the relationship between the two metrics run almost in parallel? 3) What factor is the single most important factor when determining heart deaths? Age? Triglycerides? Cholesterol? Uric Acid? Blood sugar? Can we even say? What I take from this chart is that it is insufficient to put undue attribution of heart deaths on a single factor and develop a hypothesis from it. There must be dozens of factors (including genetic) that can cause heart deaths. I've been wanting to quit my statin for years, and though there is increasing evidence that cholesterol levels do not correlate to heart attacks, I don't believe this chart is the silver bullet you make it out to be. I think the recent study showing the "Relative and Absolute Effects of Statin Treatment" is the best evidence to date.

From what Linus Pauling said, cholesterol is used to repair scaring in the Arteries, which can then clog those Arteries. I believe it's been proven, that this happened with a lack (low levels) of Sodium Ascorbate (Vitamin C) was in the body. Which is one reason he recommended taking Vitamin C. Either way, cholesterol is needed by the body for numerous repairs.
