This gives me hope! I think a lot of my mental health issues stem from the excessive use of my smartphone. I've contemplated switching to a flip phone, but I use my phone so much for my business I thought I never could! Thanks for this video!

I admire the Amish for living without electricity. I watch Off Grid with Doug and Stacy and admire what they're doing. I think it's too hard for me. If I read books, they're all on my smartphone. But I really admire your style, Ashton. Great channel! Keep inspiring people from their online addictions. It's just an endless loop full of distractions and buying newer tech we don't really need in life. They're not fulfilling to our souls.
As someone who grew up without a smartphone (and literally refused to move off of Nextel until they literally shut down the network) I'm very proud of you. I hope other young people are inspired by you and try it.
Great tips not only for those who want to switch to a dumbphone but for business owners that want to depend less from social media to sell stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I just learned recently that RUclips is not really Social Media and I use it primarily as a search engine as well, so I use no social media by choice as I enjoy my privacy as much as that is possible nowadays. I just saw another possible site to change a smart phone to a dumb phone so I will be checking that out. I am sure others with businesses will appreciate your suggestions. I will let you know how that works out.
Thanks for the video. Useful advice. I disagree on one thing. RUclips is social media, not just a search engine. I didn't realise this until relatively recently. I don't use any other social media but still find RUclips quite addictive and demanding of my time. It is one of the reasons I am thinking of switching to a dumb phone as my main phone. I actually work part time for Uber, so can't quit my smart phone completely as it is neccesary for work.
Loving your channel and ability to go dumb phone. I can only dream of doing that for now. As my business of over 20 years as a web developer I use my smart phone a lot to test UI, fluid layouts, and designs etc on different devices. Honestly I need a break from devices all together. 😎 a week in Jamaica just isn’t enough. Haha. Anyhow I’m enjoying your channel. Thanks.
i listen to music a ton as well, usually over my bluetooth speaker which is connected to my computer. so my at-home habits haven't changed. but, i don't have a great solution for music on the go, particularly in the car. i've gotten used to listening to radio/CDs again 😂
Dont call it a dumb phone, it is derogatory. Smart phones are the real dumbing down ones. I am looking to quit smartphone as well. Switching to a simpler One..
I've never had a smart phone. but I've had a flip phone since 2002 and a pager starting in the mid 90's which I hated work related cable subcontracting. no matter what I was doing I had to stop and drive to a pay phone. when I moved to the tokyo area in 2003 after 6 months of no phone my girlfriend at the time forced to buy a flip phone so we could text and send each other pictures. basically she wanted to be able to get ahold of me at any time. lol because I had an answering machine in my room. back then it wasn't considered masculine to constantly text or stare at your phone. oh I was in the navy. so we had a lot of jokes. since text gps sending pictures ect.. was new, the problems were constantly in the media over there. usually about parents receiving a 6k plus phone bill in the mail. their daughter had a million-text month. back in 2003 tokyo the flip phone was free with the service. which was about $60 a month maybe $80 text plus pictures gps. when I moved back to the usa in 2006 it was way more expensive in the usa. so, I didn't have text until the past couple of years. what I've noticed over the past decade is that they are always inventing new ways to jack the price up 3g 5g 6g ect... and or justify current charges. basic principles of kinked demand fundamental. me I love applied rationality minimalism pragmatism ect... as religion. it is definitely getting harder to get by without a smart phone. the barrier to employment and business is what has me considering the added cost. but still it took more than a decade for the price of comparable service in Tokyo 2002 to drop. I blame the pursuit of monopolistic price gouging.
I was just thinking the other day. I graduated from high school in 1999 and I realised that my year was the last year where none of us had smart phones. It seems like a foggy dream that I am trying to return to and obviously I need A LOT of work because I just typed this comment on my smart phone. It’s really challenging! 🥹😆
She has an iMac right behind her. Does it really make life simpler if you literally need more technology and tools to make up for pretending the one you already use doesn’t exist? I think it actually just makes you more focused on technology having to juggle so many devices when you already can do the same work on your phone?
@@FUUUUU1111 It could. There are people who run an entire channel off an iPhone pro. Script in Apple Pages. Record in 4K with rear facing iPhone camera using a tripod or mount, then editing in iMovie which includes Green screen capabilities, titles, voice over, Picture in picture etc. Voice over and audio correction with USB microphone. Publish directly to RUclips. You definitely CAN run an entire RUclips channel off an iPhone. You could run a website or business from one including the point of sale if you were really interested in doing so. It’s not the best tool for the job, but you could.

I remember my dad had a Nextel flip phone. It was one of the NASCAR ones.
@@markm0000 I remember the i730 series did that. They were awesome.

the difference that mic made!
happy to see you taking making videos seriously ❤️
keep it up!
That looks like a $99 Rode studio USB mic.
Thank you for this content, Ashton!! I need some encouragement
Thanks for sharing Ashton! :)
My question is about alarms/ appointments and calendar notifications. I think I could do this but that would be my only road block.
good point! personally, i check into my computer at set times and i don't miss anything. i write down really important events on paper as well.
Thanks .now I can be smart without smartphone ☺️

thanks so much! i agree, it's great to take a break from all devices whenever you can...makes such a huge difference!
My question is; Lower case video titles, is that your style choice?
What would you suggest for someone who loves listening to music? I listen to music on Spotify all the time.

Confused, you're using a iPhone or still using your Sunbeam Daisy phone?
I'm interested in that Sunbeam.
Is the memory expandable?
Do you like it?
I'm still using the Sunbeam & really love it 😊

Is the memory mini SD card expandable?
What do you do when you want music?
I use a hi-res music player for that
So would “smart phone” be an Oxy-moron or facetious? I really can’t wait till the rest of my apps won’t load on my iPhone 6.
Just use an iPad
Great video! Hopefully we can do a collab. 👍
