"Oh, right” she says “How's it going?" “Well” he replied “so far we have lost over 20 generals, 100,000 troops killed, countless injured, 3000 tanks, 300 aircraft, hundreds of helicopters, countless armoured vehicles, artillery and trucks, our flagship along with other naval ships, our army is being defeated in most areas and we have had to resort to conscripting 500,000 Russians including murders and rapists to replace our losses”. “Wow” replied the wife “what about America and NATO”? “They haven’t turned up yet”
I don't think we're going to need NATO at all any more, honestly (for Europe, anyway). Russia has been shown to be nothing more than a clown army....after Ukraine wins there will literally be no more threat to Europe.
Russia will not tolerate Ukraine joining Nato. Poland and USA God bless is the west defence. Poland to its credit is arming itself and ensuring armies don't just walk in as they have done so often in the past.
This is one of the best videos I've watched from Times Radio. I think it's the combination of an excellent presenter and a deeply knowledgeable subject matter expert. 🥇
Can you tell us about the Bradley fighting vehicle and how it's being used? Honest answer: Well, they're being destroyed in huge numbers. As are every type of vehicle, UK.rain is using. We told ukronotzee command not to use Challenger tanks near the front because their demolition would be embarrassing to Britain as dozens of wrecked leopards were to Germany. None of these heavy vehicles are being repaired. They're left stranded and irretrievable on the battlefield.
The one thing he claims is probably not so correct, which is that the F-16s will be a game changer. Any of the knowledgeable military experts who specialize in air combat are warning against believing that they will be the golden ticket to Ukrainian victory. Several factors at play, first being it is highly contested airspace bristling with MANPADs and SAM systems, not to mention hostile aircraft so it is still a very high-risk environment. Also, the F-16 requires a well maintained runway as the air scoop is below the fuselage which means that rough runways that some aircraft can accommodate are not possible with the F-16, and the runways *must* be kept clean or the engine will Hoover up debris and be destroyed. The airfields where those will potentially be stationed will already have targeting information loaded into Russian missiles. I’m very happy that Ukraine will be equipped with them, but they won’t break things open, their main role will be to provide good support for ground forces, with occasional long range strikes at very high value targets when the risk/reward is favourable. I recommend watching the Ward Carrol channel, especially his interviews with Justin Bronk who is an internationally renowned expert on modern warfare and weapons systems, the clarity and sobriety of his evaluations are really well worth spending time listening to. American media needs to take a step back and re-learn their craft. It's nice to see an interview where the reporter isn't constantly talking over the person being interviewed.

The interviewee is very good, but the interviewer's questions seem disorganized. Some of the key questions and answers about the overall strategic situation are in the middle of the interview. They should have been at the beginning - always lead with the most important topics.
Most long reports in American media is not by reporters. It is by "editorialists". People who come in with an specific agenda and the person being interviewed is either supposed to reinforce the agenda or at least follow the script. If the interviewee starts to go "off script" they get yelled down.

Ukraine might be making “makeshift” weapons but nobody else has made such excellent use of FPV drones and even better infra red to see sun-warmed land mines at dusk.
Yes, actually. The US used thermals to find recently buries IEDs jn Iraq and Afghanistan. The drone idea was toyed with, but the US forces in Afghanistan weren't allowed that much freedom to mod their drones. Good proof of concept though.
I'm sure some enterprising Ukrainian entrepreneurs will start building factories to first mod existing drones for military use, and then eventually start designing and mass manufacturing drone fleets to equip the Ukrainian Army and sell to NATO allies. Ukraine is even designing their own demining equipment. The sheer courage and resourcefulness of Ukrainians never ceases to amaze me.
I agree, and disagree with this man. The reason this is so painful for the Ukrainians is that they don't have air power to cover thier ground troupes. The way they, the Ukrainians are fighting, is not the way the US would fight, but they are doing a good job of balencing advances vs losses. They are not wasting thier people. It is a hard war. Ukraine will win.
I don't think F-16 will be the game changer some wish them to be. It's a very, very good jet, but it doesn't have stealth capability and that will limit to a degree. For example, you wouldn't want to get too close to Russia's air defences, cos they'll detect the jet easily. After that war is over Ukraine needs to work out a way to buy some F-35s.
It may not feel like it but Russia lost long ago. Germany didn't lose on D-Day and Japan didn't lose the day that the city of Hiroshima was bombed. They both lost long before those events. Russia has already lost. This is just playing out the end game. If Russia had any sense they would leave because further unsustainable human deaths and equipment attrition on the Russian side are inevitable.

No, he doesn't say anything that an experienced company grade or decent field grade officer couldn't tell you is common knowledge, common sense, or the prevailing wisdom. What he is, is what we call on this side of the pond an effective military educator and communicator. He is, in the time available, without using jargon or devolving into historical cliches and hyperbolic language, as so many military men of a certain age (particularly British military men) are wont to do, make understood to the layman the broader strokes of a complex situation. Think about it. How are you qualified to judge his expertise in logistics and strategy? But he sure made you feel like an expert, even for a moment. (That said, he didn't really much speak to logistics and strategy at all, so it really is quite hard to judge his subject matter expertise, isn't it?)
This man knows his stuff and he very wisely recognises that Ukraine can teach British armed forces a thing or two as well. Unfortunately the experience of the Rhodesian Bush War and South African operations were not recognized which would have been a learning curve for future operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
@@joshuaalistair3193 "Don't worry, the US will be fighting, and losing, in Ukraine before spring." - Joshuaalistair3193 I don't think you are a very credible source my dude.
Rhodesia is history and the veterans of that war are old men. Furthermore, however good SADF were, and they were, it didn't stop the end of the apartheid regime. NATO is directing operations in Ukraine, not the Ukrainians. You can expect a very similar outcome as happened in Vietnam and Afghanistan.
@@Khronogi Ok, let's play this out. Is the US fighting a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine right now? Is Ukraine winning this war as defined by significant territorial advances or by the destruction of the Russia military? Is the Ukrainian military degraded by the destruction of their equipment and or the loss of their soldiers (either KIA or WIA never to return to combat)? Is the US able to keep re-arming Ukraine without dipping into our own military? Is the US about to enter an election cycle? How will Joe manipulate the election cycle? He only has three options, get states to ban Trump for the ballots, use COVID as a reason to lock down states and manipulate election results, or start a war with Russia, or China, or both. Lastly, look at how we entered into Vietnam and tell me we are not following the same path today in both Ukraine and Taiwan.
Barring significant change, the liklihood of Ukraine prevailing in this war is very small. I am sad that so many on both sides are dying in this entirely avoidable war. A war I blame in large part on the USA. The realities of this conflict are beginning to dawn on some in the west. Anger and blame are now in evidence.
Offensive warfare has great human cost... There are far too many Ukrainian bodybags... Let us all pray for a 'break through' and then a rout of invading Russian forces... The personal tragedies are heart breaking.
I wholeheartedly agree. Debate in fact is actually, overrated, despite what some high brow intellectuals claim. I'd rather confirm that what I already know is true by listening to bulwark shows like these. Bread and butter!
@Sami: According to the blurb just below the video title, the Ukrainians have achieved "something that looks like a breakthrough." So, although it's not actually a breakthrough, it does look very much like a breakthrough. This will then lead to something that looks absolutely nothing like a rout of Putin's forces.
Russian army, simply put, is a joke. From putin screaming "Kyiv in 3 days" to russia losing all of Kherson and Kharkiv, they just cannot beat tiny Ukraine. Hilarious lol

For their own lives, the livelihood of their family at home, and/or whatever propoganda they've been fed. I'm sure there are barrier troops and putin is known to be vindictive.
They know that the Motherland has been attacked by a western armed and funded force, that the west is not interested in peace, that NATO is bent on their destruction, on breaking Russia up into puppet states and looting their resources. That is the US Neocon plan, to then allow them to turn on China. The Russians will never allow that to happen, if they have to fight to the last man. Russia has survived for more than 1,000 years, NATO isn't going to beat them.
To defend against NATO expansion? NATO wants to reach the Russian border. What do you think Russia will react? Once NATO reaches Ukraine, then it's a hard border to defend because of Ukraine Geography.
There have been many comments that the increased use of drones in this war have rendered the tanks especially the Leopards more vulnerable. Would be interesting to hear Nicholas' take on this.
Actually it is the Russian tanks that are more vulnerable. They have a habit of launching their turrets into space when hit. It was mentioned in the interview that no Ukrainian soldier has been killed when riding in a Leopard tank.
@@rogerphelps9939I did hear that, I found that interesting. There seems to be some kind of idea among armchair soldiers that the Leopard's armor on top is vulnerable. But you make a great point. And it does seem generally that the Russian tanks and equipment have not been anything near the threat many thought they would be.
Any armored vehicle is vulnerable from a top down strike. No one ever said that tanks would not be lost. This is war, and losses are inevitable. However western tank design philosophy is different from Russia's. The west values the people who man and operate their equipment. There is a substantial investment in their training and experience. Therefore, the preservation of the crews is incredibly important. The equipment is expendable, the life and experience is not. On the other hand, Russia doesn't care a wit about their troops. Their quantity over quality theory is therefore proven false. Russia's equipment is trash, and their training is nonexistent. Their leadership is a joke. Russia will lose this war. That much is obvious. The question is, how badly are they willing to lose? Once Ukraine reaches the Sea of Asov, they will bring down the entire Kerch bridge, or at least very large sections of it. At that point, all the Russians in Crimea will be trapped with no route of escape. Ukraine will then cross the Dnipra River into the area to the west of Zaporisia and clear out the Russians all the way to the Crimean ismus crossing points, and pound them into submission.
Thank you for confirming that the cluster munitions can clear minefields. It had occurred to me that they could do that, but nobody was talking about it, so I thought maybe I just didn't know what I was talking about. Which I don't, but it's nice to know I guessed right. That combined with the fact that they have also been cutting those cluster rounds apart and extracting the bomblets to use with quadcopters is very encouraging. Those munitions are banned in many nations for a reason, so it's a very good thing that Ukraine is getting some alternate uses out of them besides their primary function for which they have received bans.

American reports needs to absorb wider perspectives in general. In order to see a reason for the humbleness that they would need to practice and stay quiet for a bit 🙃
@@ryanbayne1033 Well, we know that's not going to happen. But hey, that's ok. It's ok for the US media to not be as good in this way as other countries. I do find it interesting that so many people are commenting on the quality of the interactions within this interview rather than the actual content itself.

Colonel McGregor in the US has totally different perspective.
F-16s Now❗❗‼‼
F16s is not a win all solution. And its not the only option. Much more air defense would be better. It demands less advanced maintenance.

Is the US able to keep re-arming Ukraine without dipping into our own military?

To ensure the Oligarchs can continue to rob the Russian people.
Washing machines and second hand toilets
