I have had my More 1 Oticon hearing aids for 6 months now. I also have Apple iPhone, iPad and streaming works great. When I went for 6 month check up my hearing aids had a firm wear update allowing me to answer
My phone and talk with my hearing aids picking up my voice. These cost a lot but they are worth it to me. I served on a army rifle team. I figured that I shot 24,000 to 28,000 rounds with my M-1, back in 1959. I also served in Vietnam in 1965. I have only had hearing aids for about 5 years. The VA tries to disallow hearing aids even though they are most often needed by veterans. One thing though, I really hadn’t heard what my wife said to me all those years she said I didn’t listen.

One of the biggest tragedies (over many decades) is that no on in power will ensure that folks with hearing loss can get affordable hearing aids. Veterans especially deserve better support than they (you) are getting.

If you work on a computer there is only one way to go...
I have had Resound that was ready for ipod and had asha, but it was impossible to connect to my Mac Book Pro.
Now I got Phonak Audeo with classic bluetooth that allows me to connect to my Mac.
As I work a lot on my computer and have lots of teams/zoom meetings on it this is a HUGE gain for me.
The phone "is a tool"... the computer is my work....

I'm 47 with hearing loss and bad tinnitus and have been putting off hearing aids for too long. I use android devices and frequently use Google's Bluetooth ear buds. I've always felt that I've been waiting for the hearing aid companies to catch up with regular consumer technology. Are we there yet? Will the competition from over-the-counter aids from consumer electronics companies accelerate Bluetooth and phone app connectivity options?

Slight correction - This is brand dependent, but I'm able to connect my Phonak Marvel's via Bluetooth to my Samsung tv directly. I also have a Roku TV which doesn't have Bluetooth but has a pretty good Android app which allows you to pass audio through your phone into your hearing aids. Wanted to share a couple options that are available without the use of a dedicated device.

My take on Phonak and Oticon paired with Galaxy S10:
    1) Phonak - The double-tap was very inconsistent and so unreliable. The double-tap would frequently be activated by jaw movement - chewing, talking or yawning resulting with unwanted call hangup, muting, or activation of the phone assistant. Had to turn it off. Phone conversations through the hearing aids were noisy for the other participant. Rechargable battery life is short, sometimes requiring a recharge in the early night. Would lose connectivity to one or the other hearing aid. Sometimes turning the hearing aids off then on would allow a reconnection. Turning the hearing aids off using the recharger always seemed to allow a reconnection.
    2) Oticon - Would loose connectivity with at least one hearing aid to the phone several times per day. I would usually discover this when receiving a phone call. On ocassion both hearing aids would be disconnected. Recovery required re-pairing the hearing aids or rebooting the phone. Turning the hearing aids off-on never helped. Infrequently, I would lose conectivity to the Oticon Clip (one ear) or more infrequently one of the hearing aids would reboot. I was surprised by this as my Oticon On did not do this.

I have the Phonak Audeo P90 aids. The VA supplied them for me. I am really happy overall with the ease of use and comfort of these aids. I do use Apple products . Also the TV connector boxes are easy to set up, and the VA supplied one for each TV. I will be getting new aids sometime in ‘24. It will be interesting to see what technology advances show up.

I got the Oticon more 1 hearing aids about a month ago. I had a Samsung note 20 ultra phone. I ended getting an iPhone because of the Bluetooth connectivity issues with my android phone. I lost connection a lot and I didn’t like that I couldn’t answer the phone with the hearing aids. The hearing aids Bluetooth function way better on an iPhone. I’ve had zero connection issues.

    Hi Doc,
Do you have any info on which of these products you've reviewed allows for connection to multiples of their respective TV streamer units?
I think I heard that the ReSound hearing aids could connect to up to 2 streamers (i.e. toggle inside the app to connect to the 'living room TV streamer', and then later change to connect to the 'bedroom TV streamer'. etc. etc.

No mention of the hit and miss answering calls? Maybe my mother just has bad luck but she finds it very stressful never knowing if it will work or not. She has tried Audeo M-13T, Signia and now she has a Audeo P, and it is very random if she gets the call into her hearing aids or the phone. And sometimes it switches during the call. She is using them with an iPhone 12.
Would be interesting to hear if others finds using Bluetooth hearing aids rock solid answering calls?

She’s not alone. Bluetooth is essentially a scam. I’m on my 3rd set of top of the line hearing aids (six years now) and none can be counted on to work the same way as they did even an hour later. day after day week after week month after month, year after year.
I’m retired and my hearing aids are my new job. It takes both my wife and I to get them working again and regular trips to my Audiologists. I’ve found so far is if you get them working don’t shut them off even if it means running them 24 hours a day. When you open the battery door every system cancels out and you have to start all over again.

I have Naida UP BTE's and I LOVE the bluetooth capability - I use it to stream music and it's absolutely great. It's also good for listening to RUclips videos like this one! as I connect to my laptop's bluetooth.
The downside is that I can't connect to two devices, I can only connect to one. So if I'm on the laptop listening to music, I can't bluetooth any phone call. I have to disconnect from laptop, and connect to phone.
However, when I do connect to phone it is absolutely great! A big improvement. You probably know that deaf/Deaf hate talking on the phone because of the unknown quality of the caller on the other end. While bluetooth doesn't get rid of that unknown quality, it does help reduce that fear about how you well you'll hear / understand the caller.

I am currently using the AirPods Pro and love them. I know that they do not meet my Rx in the left ear. I am able to understand speech 95 present better and the noise reduction for me is significant. I can play music at a low level an understand people talking to me. Without wearing them I have trouble understanding people talking if there is any background noise. I have bluetooth and Phonak Audeo. The aids will connect to my android phone (Pixel 5a) for calls (2 way) and sound, but the Phonak software will not connect reliably (usually I have to manually depair, then open the app (not allowing the phone to pair itself) to actually get the app to pick up every single time) so I can't actually use it to control the aids. The app always fails to find the aids even while I can hear things through them if they are already paired, so no volume adjustment, program changes with the app (have to tap the aid), etc. unless I jump through 5 min or more of hoops.

In China, no one pays for any benefits, insurance or other reimbursements for you, it's entirely out of pocket. The most expensive hearing aids here cost around $15,000 per person, yet half of China's population earns less than $300 per month. Even if you choose the most common model of hearing aid, it will cost you more than a thousand dollars, all out of pocket, and no one will cover a single penny of the cost for you. Even so, most of the audiologists in China are rubbish, and probably yesterday she was in a pharmacy selling useless health products.

Cheaper that the Phonak 30? Honestly, you start getting lower than that and you're going to have to go OTC if you're a candidate. The 30's are as low as it goes for Rx devices.

I am disappointed with the Bluetooth of my hearing aids compares to apple iPod pro earphones. You suggested this is due to the hearing aid hardware in my ear canal which I understand means that portion of the audio signal gets to my for ear drum around this hardware, and through the hearing aids. Can this not be overcome in software and appropriate amplification boost? For my money for how expensive these are compared to iPods it should. Also for comfort and active noise reduction and transparency mode function I barely use my Sony BTEs and I am disappointed every time I have gone back to them.

You seem to be echoing my concerns. I've been putting off hearing aids because they don't seem to be keeping up with the advances in consumer electronics. I hope the recent availability of over-the-counter aids pressures them to keep up. For the price prescription hearing aids should have all the features of the best ear buds.

I was disappointed when I found out they only work with the I-phone, I-pad or Apple devices. I rather not hear completely rather than bother with taking them out to watch TV, use my computer, and listen to stuff on Amazon Alexa. I felt like I spent $4,200 for something I won't use. I wear them about once a month and than only in one ear. I think after watching this I should have looked at Phonak or Starkey.

  • @Paso_Dan
    @Paso_Dan 10 месяцев назад

I don't think this is mentioned, but all streaming is not equal. For you iPhone users streaming your phone is truly hands-free. This means you can listen and speak on a call with your phone in your pocket. However, the ASHA streaming standard for Android does *not* allow using your hearing aids as microphones so you need to hold your phone to speak. This is very clumsy. As far as I can tell, there are only two manufacturers that offer hearing aids that allow hands free calls for Android phones - Phonak and the new Orka OTC hearing aids. They both also have multi-device connections so you don't need to manually reconnect from your computer to your phone when you receive a call. As an Android user hands free connectivity is critical. So, three of the four hearing aids shown in this review are useless for me.
