Thanks for this video. I have a quick question; do you personally believe that food insecurity is a viable extenuating circumstance? My grades were rather low during my freshman year due to my both of my parents becoming unemployed. I started off high school with a 2.7, as it was rather difficult to prioritize my academic success when you’re unsure when your next meal will be. However, my parents found work towards the end of my sophomore year, and my grades in junior and senior year reflected this. I had around a 4.17 in junior year and a 4.83 in my senior year. I managed to increase my gpa to a 3.6, and I’ve taken around 12 or 13 aps. Sorry for the lengthy text, but my main question is if food insecurity is a valid explanation for my situation? Thanks
I am not the maker of this video but as someone who is planning on appealing their transfer decision I personally feel like that is a completely valid extenuating circumstance. I know you have probably already submitted that appeal by now but I just wanted to say that it is amazing that you were able to academically recover like that and I am proud of you and regardless of what they say you should also be proud of that. it is horribly unfair that one bad year in high school can have such a major impact on your gpa.
In terms of the formatting of your appeal, did you write it in a more narrative and anecdotal style like your original application essays. Or was this more alongside an informational text listing developments and attributing to your growth?
more informational i would say. you want to get to all your points and present facts. however, you also can't really portray your development without somewhat being "narrative and anecdotal". but i would just keep in mind to be objective
Hey~ sorry for asking. I’m foreigner, so I couldn’t get the meaning of ‘get capped’. What’s that mean? I’m looking for the information how to transfer to UT Austin from community college.
